Nance, It's an offroad time trial race with cars and bikes. The competitors start at one minute intervals and are timed. The course is all sand/dirt roads trails through the country side and State forest and three towns. It is broken up into several stages and the racers have two breaks of about 20 minutes between a couple of stages. The course can run as slow as 30-40 and as fast as 100-130. If you have ever seen World Rally Championship (WRC) on TV, this is essentially it plus a division for bikes. Rossi just won one last week in Europe.... in a car! Hopefully navigation won't be too much of an issue in this one as the course is marked and the bikes go after the cars so the course should be pretty evident. The length is approximately 80 miles total. AS far as bikes, ANY dual sport type, street legal bike with a spark arrestor can do it ... hint hint. Really, I just intend to ride my pace and enjoy the experience. (Message edited by rubberdown on December 07, 2006) (Message edited by rubberdown on December 07, 2006) |

Congrats Webe! Two orange Ulys in the KNC parking lot! People won't know who's coming or going! Wonder how long it will take them to figure it out. Thanks to you and Ellen for coming to Granddaddy's visitation tonight. |

Thanks Jim. I didn't post anything and Carlos has been so busy working on his final project and getting ready for finals we just had a simple service last night and the burial was this morning. We are doing well. Like Mark, I had pretty much made peace with the fact that Granddaddy wouldn't make it through the winter and really didn't expect him to pull through this episode. My hope was for him to pass in his sleep and from what I understand he did. I'll miss him and his blue eyes, but I'm at peace and so is he. |

Well I guess this is the night for excitement. I am here working on my project when I hear the familiar sound of a car landing in the side yard. For those that do not know my yard, the road is almost level with the eve of the roof of our two story brick house. I was a bit shocked, but jumped up to my feet and ran out the room. On the way out I woke up Kristi and told her to call the police that someone had gone off the road into the side yard. I hit the spot lights on the house and hit the back door. As I walk out, there is a Chevy Corsica running with the doors open nose to nose with my Caravan. As I approach the car I realize that no one is inside the car and that the police are already here. As the first officer runs down my hill, I say, "You were chasing him huh!" He said, "yeah they were doing 90mph back there! Well the three occupants were lucky to the point they were okay enough to walk away and we were lucky enough that they were going too fast to even start to make the turn onto Hill St. If they had they would have landed in the house. The car launched and landed some fifteen to twenty feet from the road, digging up a good amount of dirt out of the yard at the landing. The air bag deployed and the occupants fled on foot. I turned the dogs out. Ralph scared the officers because he did not like it when they approached the fence. One officer said, "Big dog!" The other as she was walking around the back of the house called out "K-9". Ralph was not a happy boy and was showing his nasty side. I let him check out the barn where the bikes were, but no one was in there. Well they were lucky that they were not hurt so bad that they could not run away, but they are not so lucky that this is the coldest night of the year. The thermostat says its 21°F and the car is registered to a fella from a town twenty miles away. There are plenty of woods to hide in around here, but they are going to have a miserable night. Good! The cops started to say if they come back... About that time they saw Chelsea, my Female Old English barking next to Ralph who was now inside the house and I said, if anyone comes back they won't stick around. Now I have a torn up fence, a small tree down and not to mention a torn up yard. Another sleepy night in little Grifton. I think I have settled enough to go to sleep. Good Night! Ah Good Morning! |

Brotherhood/sisterhood of C3: I just had the most amazing night. My children went all out,,,way freaking out,,, and surprised me and their mother (my hottie) with a surprise 25th anniversary party and it was so well done, so awesome, I was speechless (that takes some doing might I add.) They had a wonder meal prepared for 22 of us. My all-time favorite too,,,salat, schnitzel, spatzle, chocolate fountain with strawberries, and massive amounts of ice cold Gerolsteiner sprudel. It was so off the hook my simple explanations don't do it justice. Wall sized pictures of us over the years hanging everywhere. DVD compilations of family photos, photos of us as kids, photos from all over the world, me and their mom making out beside the Eifel Tower was a big hit with all,,,Checkpoint Charlie got a round of applause too. Anyway, I can't explain all the emotions running wild in my brain right now -- I have some good freaking kids (most because I married smart and she runs things.) 25 years, same chick, grew up with her, still head over hills got the hots for her. It's a good day folks,,,,a fine day by any measure. Sorry for rambling, G2 |

G2 - that's wonderful, may your next 25 be just as great. I'd say you've got some pretty great kids as well. All my best to you and Julie. Hope all else is well. I hate that you had to pull out of MBIV. If something changes, please let us know. There will be room for you even if it's at the last minute! |

Mike, I'm still curious about the sandblast rally. I looked at the rules, and a spark arrestor is required. None exists for the Uly, so I don't have to be curious any longer. Do you have one on your bike? |

I believe that the stock Muffler would be catagorized as a approved spark arrestor....as most Supertrapp mufflers are forrestery service approved. |

got the brakes sorted out (Thanks to 1313 for answering some Buell questions). Just some little spacer changes when I get the axle but that should be easy enough. Still no idea how to mount a fender might have to modify a Buell fender too! http://www.turbotimelounge.us/albums/Vics-Album/ap g.jpg http://www.turbotimelounge.us/albums/Vics-Album/ap j.jpg http://www.turbotimelounge.us/albums/Vics-Album/ap h.jpg |

Hey Mark, I took the Blast out today. Rode down Laura Dunkin, but it looked like you had company so I didn't stop. The info I was going on was from an internet chat Buell did when the Uly was introduced:
quote:al_lighton: Is there a US Forest Service approved spark arrestor available for it, or will there be? Is it legal on those lands without it? Tony: We do not have a Forest Service approved spark arrestor available. There are many un-paved roads in National Forests that it is legal to ride without the spark arrestor. But certainly, there are trails and places where one is required. Generally, these are areas where we didn't intend the Ulysses to go - they are beyond the spirit of the bike. If you're not sure about an area you intend to travel through, please call the local Forest Ranger and ask. They are very good about putting the requirements on their maps as well as posting the requirements at the park entrances. Some of the maps are available on-line if you surf around.
I don't know if the situation has changed. Perhaps the issue was just that they hadn't bothered to get it certified? |

Mark, the pictures look good. Sort of wierd to see a wheel, forks, and lights standing upright with out the rest of the bike there. |

Well I have 161miles on the Uly.This was the first day I had the chance to ride due t the cold snap we have had, I even broke in the Uly on non paved roads or paths today. My Bikers for Christ chapter had our annual Toy ride delivery today. There was one house that was hard to get to because we had poor directions. We could see the house but there was a old farm path with deep holes and ruts that appeared at the time the only way there. Well, the Uly performed the task of Santa Clause quite nicely.I'm sorry but I give the cruisers an A for effort and I got a good laugh watching these guys try to go down this path and giving up.Then watching them try to turn around was hilarious. Yes, I'm not that bad a guy ,I did offer to go first to see if there was another way but my reward was priceless.I guess sometimes you just can't fix stupid. After all,the bike that offered to go first, that just a few miles ago every one was ohhing and ahhing over the versatility. (GOING OFF ROAD) Was patiently waiting for them to convince them selves that hey let the Uly go first and he may find a way that we all can get there too. Yes,there was another road that looked like someones driveway that led to the kids house, and I found a way that we could all do the delivery together. Just thought I would share that with C3 and maybe someone will get as much of a laugh as I did.It still doesn't top having a Corsica as a lawn dart at 2am in the morning. Later all.Webe Uly |

Jim N. LOL... I confess I want to ride it too, but it is just toooooooo cold right now, plus I'm still waiting for Santa to bring me a new riding jacket. The summer weight jacket I was using of Webe's is NO WAY warm enough for this kinda weather. So unless it warms up or Santa comes early I won't be riding til after the new year

Hi, Just got back from spending more time at Duke, but all is well and everyone is home now. Ulywife & M2nc-I am sorry to hear about your Grandfather, needless to say, he is in a better place and I am glad you are comfortable with that. Dying is hard on those left behind, not those whom have passed on. Also sounds as if you guys are living in a crazy location, not many of us have cars crash into our front yards during a high-speed chase. Is your van OK? Do you know if they caught them? Anyway glad none of you got hurt, as people in that situation do crazy things. Webe-Glad you crossed totally over to the "Bad" Side. Congrats on the new Uly. As for all else we are doing well, don't get a lot of just for the heck of it riding, but it could be worse. I almost definitely can't go to badness this year as we have targeted money into other areas. I am going to try and make Daytona as we are looking to move into the central Florida area some time in the near future and I am going to do some searching dring that time(which hopefully means next Daytona will have a C3 accomidations covered). As we have been looking at our schedule and due to recent hospital visits and scheduled visits to family for the holidays, and trips to NIH in Bethesda coming up, my wife and I exchanged our Christmas presents tonight. And she got me a DUCATI(well a RC one) Will have pictures later...LArry |

Larry & JimR - all is well here. The fence, a small tree and 3 x 5 piece of yard are the only damages. The car thankfully stopped before hitting my van, truck or new basketball goal! Thankfully enough they didn't start to come off the road another 2 feet to their left or they would have parked that Corsica in my kitchen. I'd love a new kitchen, but not sure that's the route I'd want to get it! They have questioned several suspects and have pending warrants for the driver. I guess I'll know more this week. The occupants actually were very lucky as things could have been much worse. Much more front end and they would have flipped the car. I'm sure they had NO idea they were about to go airborne! Bet they were sore later that day! Thanks again for the words and thoughts about my Granddaddy. I really made peace with it and am glad that he's in a much better place than suffering like he was here on earth. |

B.B.B.Bliz....Blizzardd PPPPPRoof my arse! Course the only thing I had on underneath it was a t-shirt and a pair of dress pants, very thin material. My legs were fine, chest was cold. Keep in mind I took the fairng off the bike, so it was full on wind blast!! Had a guy in an 18 wheeler pull beside me in the fast lane slowly pulled ahead of then turned on his left hand turn signal, so I figured he wanted me to draft him. Who was I to argue. That really made a big difference! It was very tolerable at that point. Got to my turn off and flashed him once and he did the blinking all the lights on the trailer thing, so that was pretty cool. The suit comes from wallyworld for 50$. I figured if I wore my armored jacket underneath it I would be ok. Another real interesting thing happened last night. I really like when the tires are cold, and you nail it while leaning just a little off the seat and push down with the opposite foot. You get a really awesome black mark while the rear goes one direction, and you steer in the other. I know it at least wears out the edges of the tires. Time for new ones anyway. |

My wife gave me the Duc. It uses a battery pack(which she got me an extra one). Drove it in the Cul-de-sac for about 10 minutes(it was late), was pretty cool, rider leaning actually makes it turn...needs more space as the crash guards widen the turning radius, but I dont drive it well enough not to use them. |

Mark & Laura come over to help me work on the bike. I already had the oil change and the primary fluid drained before they got here. We filled the primary with Formula+ but decided to call it a flush as we watched it drain out onto the garage floor. I then put the drain plug into the tranny and we refilled it with a bottle of Mobil 1 I had laying around. We measured the primary chain tension and it was fine. Then we put on the Lyndal pads. It was incredably easy. Tomorrow I get to bed them in! |
