Taking a break from working on the S2...
Tomorrow she starts, or don't. I hope the battery didn't go bad from sitting so long off the battery tender. Hooked it back up when I stopped for today (tonight?) so we will see. A couple of weeks ago I went through some old Easyrider magazines to sort out the ones I want to save and the ones I want to get rid of. Here are some pretty funny cartoons from some of them:
How true (nowadays)...
I think this must be one of the pics of Carlos from today...
For those of you interested in the Camo bodykit for the Uly, here are some photos of the overall bike and some detail shots.

G2 - Thanks for a great day. I needed that. Put 615 miles on the bike today. I don't know what to say about the tires, except for that one turn (that for some reason I could not see) the front tire felt like it was skipping, the Contis stuck fine. They are gone though at just 2600 miles. That is the worst mileage I have ever gotten out of a rear tire. I need that kind of cold weather stick, with a rear tire that lasts me 9,000 miles. Okay, so its a tall order. As far as for cold weather - It was a little cold when we were on the BRP as the sun was going down. Remember when I went down on the Uly last year it was 28°F. Heck I still had long johns and winter gloves for colder weather than today. I really want electric gloves or heated grips though. My hand did get cold on the way home. |

Carlos- The best tires that I have found to meet your criteria are Avon Azaro's. I have had Michelin's, Bridgestone’s, Dunlop’s the best by far are the Avon’s. They are so good that I don't think I would let myself try anything else. When the Dunlop’s wear down on the Ss there will be a set of Avon’s going on her too. But hey....that is only my opinion. |

and I even had the opportunity to speak with local law enforcement in Taylorsville on the way home last night -- took over an hour to not give me a ticket G2 |

opportunity to speak with local law enforcement in Taylorsville So I guess that explains how we got home at the same time. I thought I was tagged in Greensboro. 55mph zone I was running 70mph when we went under a bridge with a patrol car parked in the grass. I have heard that present radar systems have problems picking up motorcycles when in a pack of cars. I don't know if that is true but that was the second time I've crossed under a bridge with a pack of cars with a patrol car on the other side and no action. |

So I guess that explains how we got home at the same time. That may be part of it, but I strongly suspect that you were exceeding the posted speed limit,,,,,,substantially exceeding too. Tip of The Day: Don't ride with Carlos unless you have you Eskimo gear -- his internal thermometer is broke. |

Oh yea we've started the discussion process of a possible meet in the middle -- it'll be camping in the yard, but w/showers and food : ) Long way from fruition, but easily and doable deal. I'm in, sounds like fun... Just tell me when! |

Jim, I didn't have to use that line. I had my credentials in front of my drivers license and If I were to guess I'd say he was verifying that. I was more shocked when Kristi hit me with "Carlos just walked in." I bet he rarely dropped below 90 to make that kind of time -- I need to get him some credentials |

Bigdaddy, PM me your E-mail addy. Jim Nance wants me to forward something to you. IT'S ALIVE!!! IT'S ALIVE!!! The S2 runs! Even without a fully charged battery it finally started. Now begins the arduous task of 500 break-in miles to ensure the rings are seated properly. Rock on! 1313 |

Brankin - Congrats! If you hurry, you can have those 500 miles on before you arrive at work in the morning. |

1313 - A great day indeed, but you are a week late. The 13th of the month was last week. Now I have to get busy on the M2. BD - Naw its all about steady speed not all out speed. I was running between 80-85mph most of the way which is my usual Freeway speed. I did have to keep a closer eye on the speedo on US-64/264 though. As traffic thinned I lost my speed gauge of rate of passing and I found myself north of 90mph a couple of times. Heck I even hit a traffic jam in Durham. They had two of three lanes closed for construction. I used the right lane / closed lane to get to the next exit. Used surface roads to by pass traffic and got gas while I was off the freeway. Twenty minute adventure in all and back on the road. It took 2 hours to get from N. Wilkesboro to Durham and 1 hour and 40 minutes to get from Durham home. Over all speed average including stop and surface roads was a little over 60mph. 250 miles / 4 hours = 62.5mph. |

his internal thermometer is broke. The only time I can freeze him out is when I'm pregnant in the winter! Guess I'll have to keep a blanket close by! |

I need to get him some credentials Couldn't hurt! a possible meet in the middle We talked about a "Border Raid" - NC/VA/GA/SC/TN. Maybe something late spring/early summer. I'm sure there's also some camp grounds, cabins or reasonable hotels in the area. Currently on the radar is January - IMS, February - Daytona, March - March Badness IV, May - C3 Jr. Ride.

I remember how it was when we lived in Cincinnati and had to drive past the countless malls between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't miss those days, but I don't mind driving to Durham for a one-day shop-a-thon! Guess I don't mind it so much because I don't have to deal with it on a daily basis. |

FYI - Mark's (Webe) Dad passed away this afternoon. Mark and family have been with him since last week when he was transferred to Duke Hospital. He's heading back to Henderson to help make the final arrangements. I'll let you all know more as we have the details. JimN & Rebecca - thanks so much for opening your home to Mark and his family. I know it made things easier for him not having to travel or have the extra expense of a hotel. He has mentioned how much he appreciates it each time I've talked to him over this past week. You guys are the best. |
