My adventure last Friday and Saturday: Picking up a month old '06 XB12Scg with 1,063 miles West of Orlando, FL (and helping to ride it back). I left work at 3:30 on Friday in order to be home and ready to be picked up at 4:00. The first picture from the adventure was taken for Jim Nance:
About 2:00 a.m. we pulled into a fleabag hotel in Sanford, FL for a few hours of catching ZZZZ's. Fast forward to Saturday morning about 10:00, and guess who gets to ride the bike away from the previous owners house?
On the way to Daytona (actually very close to VegasBueller's place in Deltona) I met a CityX on I-4. Since the low fuel lit up on the XB about 18 miles outside of Daytona we pulled off at the Speedway exit to get gas. Shortly after the tank was full, I looked at the traffic on Int'l Speedway Blvd. and notice a Black XB12R heading away from Daytona. Since we are already off the expressway and a little hungry we decide to venture to the oceanfront to find some lunch.
MAN! Hog Heaven BarBQ was some GREAT stuff! Very much unlike the vinegar based sauce used for Eastern NC BarBQ it made me want to go back to Kansas City for the worlds best BarBQ. After lunch we went to check out the beach. Here's my best Captain (Morgan) impersonation:
Since I beached the boat I doubt I could ever get anyone to hire me as a Captain... The waves were a little large at times, but the people that tried to surf weren't quite able to hang 10.
How fitting is it that there are trash cans in the background of this picture?
I don't know why the gruff look was on. After all I was riding someone else's near new '06 XB12S (and I didn't even have to pay for the gas). Oh yeah, that's right, it's someone else's bike - Here's that smile:
Here's the best shot of the owner riding his new bike somewhere in Georgia. I'd say he's got that streetfighter thing going on.
To close I offer this final shot, once again from Jim Nance, taken on our way back Saturday:
We ended up back in New Bern around 11:30 Saturday night, so overall the trip was 31 & 1/2 hours. Feedback from riding an XB12Scg. DAMN THAT SEAT!!! I rode the bike the entire distance in Florida, got back on it in the middle of South Carolina and my last leg was from Goldsboro to New Bern. I tell you every stoplight was a Godsend - even if I could just get my feet on the ground and my ass off that saddle for a few seconds it was welcome relief! My ass was still sore when I got on my V-Rod after work on Monday... That '06 helical gear transmission - WOW! Not completely like a Jap bikes, but WORLDS of improvement over previous trannies. The seat SUCKS! The interactive exhaust valve still exhibits some torque dip in the mid range. Either that or the idler pulley on the drive belt does not eliminate driveline lash as it is publicized to... Fortunately the torque dip is easy to cure with a different exhaust - which the new owner is already looking on eBay for. I pointed him to badweb today, so maybe he will find a better deal with someone here. Did I mention the seat SUCKS? 1313 |

Hi Jim! Hi Dave! Hi Mike! Hi Mark! (Hey Kristi... I wonder.... what percentage of C3 did I just say Hi to?) LOL seems like those are the popular names for this site. Thanks Carlos and 1313 for having different names. Sometimes it makes my head spin trying to keep up with who's talking to who....

The interactive exhaust valve still exhibits some torque dip in the mid range. I have learned to open the throttle slowly if I am not going to down shift. The valve in the can stays closed longer and the torque is better. If you whack the throttle at lower than 4000rpms the valve opens and you lose the torque. Hey, its a compromise, but it is better than not having the valve all together. Its still no match for the M2 and its Sportster cams, but the M2 does not have the top end. |

Webe's BG - LOL I had the same thing in College. My three room mates were all named John with bothers that also went to OSU that were named Jim. We could be in a eight to ten person group and everyone but me was named John or Jim. |

Spectrum, Hyundai/Kia Harley Davidson, AKA Pat Rogers Speedway HD, has sucked since day one. I've been to many HD shops, all across America, many in Europe, Saudi Arabia & Kuwait and no one approaches the same level of incompetence in all things from the MoCo -- they don't limit their ignorance to Buell only. Thanks for the pictures Brankin. I see that you have associated me with South of the Border. Perhaps I should get a Sombrero? The 2 guys I stayed with up in deals Gap a couple of weeks ago had Scgs. That was the first time I had sat on one. I didn't get to ride the bike, but I liked the way it felt. It was a lot like sitting on the Blast. I'm way too large to fit the Blast, but the small size of the bike makes it a lot of fun anyway. |

what percentage of C3 did I just say Hi to? If you add John and Brian/Bryan to that list, you covered over 1/2 of C3! The count currently is: Mike - 5 Mark - 3 John - 2 Jim - 3 Dave - 3 Brian/Bryan - 2 This includes some regulars and some that we hear from now and again! We just picked up another Mike (included in count). Interesting huh? |

Sounds like Speedway HD is a candidate for the crown. |

Kristi, Yep I've seen that. I was suggesting a "Hall of Shame" list to specifically publicize dealerships that are confirmed non-friendly to Buells. |

Oh and I guess I'd better say hi to the rest now, Hi John, Hi Bryan/Brian Hi Matt Hi fellow female badwebbers (There's three (four counting P) of us on C3 I think.) OH... and I can't forget Wes.. Hmmm..... Have I missed anyone???

Funny thing about the names. In high school my best friends name was/Mike and Jeff, and my riding buddy's name was John. Fast forward to Colombus,GA. Best friends name was Jeff, his brothers name was Mike, who I also became friends with. Had a guy that occassionaly I rode with named John. FF to NC. Best friends and riding buddy Mike, brother in-law named Jeff, who's brother's name is John. Read it twice, maybe it will make sense. Oh yea, my friend from highschool named Mike, just bought a 06 Firebolt. He is stationed in Germany and has registered here as 'EuroFirebolt'. But I have not seen him post yet. |

I took the Blast out yesterday and rode down to Merry Oaks. On the way back I pulled up next to a white Firebolt at the corner of 64 and Lake Pine. It had TN plates but the guy lives in Apex. We only got to talk for a sec, but he was a young guy, probably a college student. Someday I'll get those cards I designed printed. |

I went riding yesterday, and hit reserve right after I got out of civilization. I knew there was a little store that sold gas on my route, and I thought I could make it that far. I'd never actually bought gas there though. I'm not exactly sure how to describe the store. Its not that much different from thousands of little stores in the middle of nowhere NC. It's a cinder block building in various states of disrepair. They sell bait and assorted groceries. And they have 2 gas pumps. The old kind with the numbers that turn on rotating wheels. Not the digital kind with the credit card readers. Well the premium pump is out of order. So that leaves the regular (87 octane) pump. I've never put 87 octane in my Blast so I'm not real happy about this. Then I notice they are charging me $3.00/gal for 87 octane. I put in a gallon, which I figured would get me home. The pump looked to be about 20 years old. I'm sure they put a lot of effort into making sure there is no water in the gas as well. But the bike did start, which I took as an encouraging sign. I pull away and drive past the rear of the building. Thats when I saw it. I kid you not, there was an outhouse behind the store. I think the bike is due a tank of premium. :-) |

Go down US-1 till exit 89, which is newhill-hollowman. It's the one which goes to the boat ramp. Instead of turning onto the boatramp road, keep going straight until you get to a stop sign. I think this intersection is cass-holt. Turn right, and go about 300 feet. It's right there. There store is at an intersection, and I usually turn by it off of cass-holt onto some road that runs down across 42 and then by that park. It's a nice ride. If you have gas. |

Yes, the extent of my riding variety recently has been whether to take DeBoy or Kent across to Kaplan. Sometimes I spice it up and hop on the beltline for about 20 seconds and get to Kaplan that way. |

Greg - You might be just the person for this. I did a card design, but I did it as a project to brush up on my postscript skills. Which turns out to be a bad format for most people to work with. You on the other hand might like it. I've attached the post script source to this message. Consider it a programming challenge.

Go Bigdaddy!! I think I managed to find out how to edit the name, but couldn't edit the layout to make it print within the business cards you buy at Office Depot. This time next week we'll be heading to JimN's house and ready to load the trailer and go! Watch out, my comfort level with pulling a trailer is much better than last time |
