Hello All- I'll be drag racing in Union Grove, WI tomorrow night (Thurs Aug 17) and am inviting all to come up and race. I'll already be in Lake Geneva earlier in the day so I won't be riding up with anyone that makes the trip from the Chicago area. Info is at http://www.greatlakesdragaway.com/index.php?page=harleys or call my cell 312 593 6441. Hope to see some of you up there. |

Greg, I will probably ride by Lemont tonight and look for you on the street. You know that Bluff Road closure has been postponed to 8-21-06? I love construction delays! Hope to see you tonight. If you don't see me, then listen for me off in the distance running the bluff. |

I didn't get to Lake Geneva or the drag strip. I only made it as far as McHenry and gave up because of the weather. I think racing was canceled anyway. I have the same plan for Aug 31st if anyone is interested. There are only two more for the season, Aug 31st Sept 14th. |

The track day Monday was not a total loss for those that stuck around. The north track was green and open to anyone at any time from around 2:00pm to 5:00pm. The track actually started to dry out for about 30 minutes before another wave of showers hit. Basically, it was three hours of open track (albeit wet) with only a handful of remaining riders on it at any time. The lap times actually started to get respectable as people had lots of time to practice and find the limits under the conditions at hand. Great practice. I sure hope Buell considers doing this again next year. |

The Silver lining I found in Monday's Autobahn track day clouds... I also enjoyed lots of PERSONAL Track Time from 2pm to 5pm with the other 15 or so of us that stuck around. Despite the rain, it was absolutely awesome to have the track open to ourselves for a full 3 hours. The only time I stopped was for the necessities of Hydration, Urination, and one "fill up the gas tank" break when the fuel idiot like came on. I was able to log 130 miles in that 3 hours and enjoyed all of them. With the "PRECIPITATION Track Time" conditions, I learned a lot about how far I can push my bike and tires in the wet which in my mind is outstanding safety training for a motorcyclist. I had a few scares with the rear tire when I applied to much power when exiting a turn, but as I found out these are easy recoveries..just let off the throttle and the back tire will hook up again immediately. I can't lie...I still crapped myself each time this happened despite my attempt to make it sound easy. Before this track day I was very timid in the rain...I definitely fixed that after Monday's track day. I was amazed at how hard I was riding near the end of the day despite the wet track and how much fun I was having. I have a Ulysses with the Dunlop D616s with deep grooves which were clearly a good tire choice for the wet conditions of the day. The fast pace and playful chasing which was going on amongst the 15 of us was quite commendable and made it very worthwhile. In fact, their was one rider on a Suzuki SV650 (Not Fly, I can't remember his name but he is yellow 01 in the photos)who was doing 70 mph wheelies on the straight away...rather entertaining to see in the wet conditions! We all complemented him on his wheelie abilities and none of us were brave enough (or stupid enough depending on your opinion) to try and "one up" him. My advice for next year providing we can convince our Buell sponsors to do this again: 1). Bring rain gear just in case and enjoy the riding rain or shine. You'll improve your wet weather riding confidence and abilities. 2). Have someone who is trailering to the Autobahn bring extra fuel, a spare shelter, and some chairs for those of us who motorcycle to the autobahn race track and can't stow all that crap on our bikes. You will be praised by those of us who ride to the event and you can charge more than BP does for a gallon of gas and make a nice profit from us. 3). Trash bags are not waterproof. If you ride to the event, bring some other water proof bag or luggage to store your gear in case of the inevitable rain which follows all Buell Track days. 4). Remembering our summer of 05 drought? If we ever have drought problems again, simply have Leon schedule impromptu PTT Buell Track Days during the summer at the autobahn. It will surely rain cats and f***ing dogs pissing off us motorcyclists, but will have the added benefit of helping out the local farmers crops and our yards. PHOTOS I found the photos site tonight. I found that even though I was Yellow 14 my photos were under Black 4 on the DVK Photo site. The others I recognized were also mislabeled so just look for yourself on this event page and you'll be able to find what random label they chose for you. http://dvkphoto.com/060828/eventindex.html Look forward to seeing many of you at a DRY Slimey Crud Run Sunday October 1st (slimeycrudrun.com) - Marc |

Hey all, Yesterday 09/07/06, I rode to work planning on making it to the meeting, however upon leaving I noticed that there was oil on the ground underneath the bike. It was fresh and I could easily see where it had dripped down from. Upon further examination at home I traced the leak from around the Primary Drain Plug. What is the correct repair, just re-tighten the plug to the correct torque specs, or now should I check the primary fluid to see if its low. I don't know how long its been leaking, but most probally not long at all. It didn't leak at all, all night long at the house after the ride. Any insights? Latter |

I'd check the fluid level and see if the plug is loose. If the plug is torqued to spec and leaking I'm not sure where you'd go from there. It was good to see everyone at the meeting last night. Rode north on 294 with Kevin afterwords and found myself taking the scenic route through O'hare airport arrivals on my way back to the city. Lots of nice curves but a little slow. This happened to me last time I rode home from a BRAG meeting too. I guess I must like it...... Reminder: Next Thursday night (Sept 14) is the last Harley drag night of the season at Great Lakes Dragaway. I plan on going (weather permitting) and will keep you all posted. I had my best time ever last time out (12.94 seconds) and will be looking to beat it. If you want to check it out and not race its $12 hang out in the pit area and/or watch from the stands.
