Charlie,,,,,it was the going down, watching the races, and then getting back to the house all in one day that would make it a long Saturday. I'm still good for 180 miles :-) It has been a couple of years since I've ridden more than 500 in one day,,,hopefully me and the little guy will be hitting the US Forumula 1 race in Indy this year so I'll see if I can still hang.

I knew you were just pulling on my leg (you were accurate at the same time : ) .)

What's the name of place you're racing? I might be able to get a overnight kitchen-pass and drag the little guy along with me? Don't know until I submit the request to the higher authority,,,

Hey Greg,
Hope you guy's can make it. We really enjoy it. The first race is at the fairgrounds in Orangeburg, dont have any directions yet(their first race) and it's a day race(hot as h3ll) starting in the am.
The secound race is a nite race at Neeses SC about 10 or 15 miles north of Orangeburg,Mid Carolina Speedway. Nite races are alot more enjoyable, less heat and generally more exciting. Directions for that track you can get off their web site....midcarolinaspeedway.com....Try to get there b-4 dark so you can find the place, practice starts around 5:30pm racing is usually over by 10:30 or 11:00 surprize me.LOL............Charlie

Hey Charlie,

Haven't had a chance to fit the air cleaner yet. My home A/C died at the end of June and replacing that took up most of bike wrenching time for the last week.

I did get time to look in the breadbox and I don't think it's gonna be much trouble to install it. I ordered a pair of those oil/air separators and a breather filter which should be in this week. Once I get those parts in I plan on putting it on.

My new Drummer exhaust came in Friday and I did get that put on (Kevin says it's OK to run with stock ECM.) If I don't get time to fit the air cleaner this week, we're headed up to Fontana Dam, NC (~10 miles from the Dragon) on vacation this coming Friday so I guess it will have to wait until I get back from that.

I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks again for your help.

Hugh

Hugh,
How do you like the new "Drummer",can you tell any difference in the power delivery? I'm sure it sounds good. I'm surprized about the ECM, looks like it would have lean spots.I'd watch my plugs and the end of the pipe for any sign of lean condition. The race ECM will also expand your powerband. I noticed an across the board improvement when I put one on the cyclone..........Charlie

Charlie,

I like the Drummer a lot so far. It definitely has some more "umph" on the low end and feels like it has a little more power across the board but it's not dramatic. It feels like it might be a little lean at lower speeds; I can detect a very slight surge at steady speed that wasn't there before and I can hear just the slightest unevenness in the exhaust note. I'll keep an eye on the exhaust outlet. Come to think of it, the bike used to seem to run a little rich based on tailpipe observations.

I'm sure the Race ECM will be a big improvement now that the Drummer's installed. I guess I've held off on buying it on the chance that Buell releases something tomorrow that I just can't live without.

Otherwise, I'll probably be ordering one in a couple of weeks.

BTW, you wouldn't happen to have the software to reset a TPS, would you?

Hugh,
Sorry, thats one thing I never had. I don't know if a TFI would work for you, some of those are floating around. You wouldn't have to redue the tps.You would have to go to the Doebek site(bad spelling) to see if it would work on your FI(most of the stuff is for the XB) You could try the classifieds for either. If its been along time since your tps has been set it might not be a bad idea either way. With the race ecm you get the higher redline, you won't with the TFI. And then there is the PCIII. With any of these you need dyno time to be sure. The race ecm would be the closest without putting it on the dyno. Don't know who has a dyno locally, there is one in Orangeburg on Rt301 nx to the John Deere place,R&D something. I know the guy that owns it.He does alot of race bikes ( Ed Salley)

Hey guys, I have looked at the weather and we have decided to postpone the Saturday ride until sometime next week or next weekend.

I would like to take a pole here to see when the best time (next time) we could go riding.

Does anyone have any days off during the week?

If we decide to go next Saturday ... is anyone oppsed to an early ride. (Nelson, from Wedgefield, and I went on a Saturday morning and it was nice and cool)

For me, I can ride just about anytime that I am in town which is 14 days at a time.

Any other thoughts just let me know or just post to the bad web.

Thanks, Robert Long (Irmo)

Anyone interested? My friend and I are riding to Charleston (from Irmo) this Wednesday (the 19th). We are going to the Harley dealer to get our back tires changed.

Once down there we should only be 1 hr. getting tires changed, as per service dept.

So, give me an email or post back here, please.

Hope to see some of you there....

Also... this coming weekend (the 22nd) I am up for a ride... but, I will need to be back in Irmo around 10 am... so a ride starting at 7-8 or so would do well for me. I know this is kinda restrictive, but my mother is coming into town...

Best I could do is just leave the group - break off from you guys and go home solo... letting all others to continue the ride...

Sound Good?? Let me know.

Be safe.. Robert

Why would you come to Charleston to get a tire replaced?Glad to have more "Buell "people in the area, but would have thought it would have been cheaper and more convenient in the Columbia area. Wish I could meet up with you guys Wed. but have to many things booked for that day. Maybe another day, ya'll have a great ride.........Charlie

Hey Charlie, you would think it would be cheaper here. But get this... the new Thunder Tower... doesnt have the staff nor the interest in Buell (although, they do stock them). Augusta Harley ordered the wrong tire sizes, then gave me a service date 1 month away - -way too long for me. Mrytle Beach, where I bought it, is too far 2.5 hours... so, Charleston is 1.5 hrs, "do-able".... so, I'm up for the trip.

Well, I hope some of you can go with us...

See ya, Robert

Hope your experience with "Low Country HD& buell" is better than mine. They made me so mad I haven't been back in over a year. But maybe you won't encounter the same "AH" that I did on the parts counter. They have a really nice/good mechanic that works on Buells and likes them. His name is Mike, if he's still there......Charlie

Oilrigpilot - I take my Buell to the Triumph dealer in Batesburg "Ridge Motorsports on Hwy 23. Byron the lead mechanic knows how to do it properly.

I have the Service Manual and we went through it together when we changed mine. Since then we have changed numerous tires. Byron is a very good mechanic and does all the work on my bikes except for reseting the TPS on my Buell. I took it to Augusta HD for that. They have a great Buell mechanic there too. He is their lead mechanic as well. His name is Truk (not me) and owns Buells himself, so ask for him.

Jeff is the owner and has great prices on tires and installation

I stopped by Thunder Tower (again) this weekend. (I go up to Camden every other weekend and it's on my way.) I had high hopes when they first opened, but I'm afraid they're gonna be another typical HARLEY DAVIDSON (buell) DEALER.

They do have three 2006 Uly's in stock plus a few more models if anyone's looking, but no Buell clothing or accessories (that I have been able to find). A salesman did ask me if I needed help this time and I asked if he had the 2007 Buell CD yet. He said no, but did take my name and address and promised to send me one when they came in. We'll see....

Whodom - Thunder tower HD, was & continues to be a huge disappointment!!! I have spoken with Chris Parnel (I, think...basically the son of a "father-son" ownership). They can't answer the phones!!! I stayed on the phone (ringing) for over two minutes... hungup, called again, same thing... only answered this time in about 3 minutes... then to get tranfered to an ANSWERING MACHINE!!!! Chris said they were having phone problems..... I guess.... but for months now????? How about hiring some more people? Then, they would not even meet me half way on cost of the Dunflop D208 rear. $170.00 for a rear tire when LowCountry HD had them for $99.00 (see below) I must have been on the phone for 3 days playing phone tag with no help on a cost matching from Thunder Tower. I mean, you, me or anybody, could go online and get the D208 SportMax for less then Tower.

TRUK - I will have to try the Batesburg shop - thanks for the info.

Cyclone - I didn't go to Low Country HD due to a puncture in the rear tires.... so I had to suffer at Thunder Tower (due to proximity)

Anyway... Chris and his father are new to the biz.. so, I hope they improve in the coming year. He did try to help us but he said his hands were tied with corporate.

Oh well... no trailer... I had to let them put it on. They finally gave me 30 bucks off.

See you guys later.

Hi guys,

I dropped by Lowcountry HD yesterday and ordered a race ECM for my S3.

There was an interesting addition to the Buells for sale- besides the yellow 04 (?) XB9R, 06 XB12R, and couple of Blasts that have been there for a while, there was a yellow 02 (?) X1 on the floor. It looked nearly new and had several upgrades, including a Supertrap exhaust and a Jagg oil cooler. It had the Marchensi (sp?) wheels except that the paint had been stripped off and the edges of the rims polished. It looked pretty cool. Price not marked.

I also noticed they had finally (?) put a Buell sign up on their new building. It's over the service entrance; I hadn't noticed it before. They still have several types of Buell caps in the clothing section and it looked like they'd been selling a few. I guess they haven't given up on Buell yet.

Charlie,

Yea, the bike is definitely running a little lean with the Drummer. I'm gonna work on the air cleaner this afternoon so I'll be ready when the race ECM comes in.

Oh, I also spoke with the Service Manager at Lowcountry and he was very helpful. I asked if he could tell me how much a TPS reset would cost on a Buell S3 since I'll need to have it done after I get the race ECM. He said it would take approximately 1/2 hour labor or $35, but he recommended doing 3 things: reset TPS, check static timing, and check the A/F ratio. He said they could do all that in an hour or $70. Since I haven't had any of that done on my bike and I've potentially disturbed the timing when I changed my oil pump gear earlier this year, I figure it'll be a good idea to do all three.

I was just impressed that he said "we'll be glad to do whatever you want, but I recommend doing this." Seems like he takes an interest in doing a proper job as opposed to making every possible dollar he can.
