Buellnuts, Don's S3 problems can possibly be from worn gear engagement dogs. The symptoms were missed shifts, progressively harder to shift and when downshifting the lever would stay down. The pawl adjustment seemed fine.
He's pulled the gear cluster out and is in the process of scratching his head and pulling out (more) hair in total disgust.
Possible solution could be refacing the gear dogs to get that sharp point back which is a cheap bandaid fix. Or replace the gears (ouch $$) or replace the whole cluster (more ouch $$$).
Dreaming? Baker six speed ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...)
That's the jist of it anyhow. On a positive note, the new fairing is on and the bike looks symmetrical now. :)

On the Wet Coast...

Hey Green Eric, looks like if Mike doesn't make it to Border Raid you will be escorting me up to Bob & Deb's and then we will get to do the fun ride back! Won't be as much fun without the Big Guy along (I'm sure that is what he was thinking all those rides without me - LOL), but I'm sure we will manage to have a good time. Depends on where Cody is in the points standings if Mike will make the ride or not. Such a dedicated Dad :) Mom is also dedicated (bath time, getting uniform cleaned, you know mom stuff) I just have a few more rides to catch up with Mike though.

Well just wanted to let everyone know the news from the doc yesterday. I have to go in and have surgery this Friday on the left thumb. Yep, I tore the ligament and they are going to go in and attach it back to the bone with a small piece of steel. I will not be riding the SV until at least the end of June, and maybe longer. 10 days in a splint, 6 weeks in a cast and then the splint for another 5-6 weeks. SHIT!!!!! I want to ride so bad. Chris just got the new exhuast on and it's ready for the road. SHIT!!!

Bummed out in the southern rain forest........

Bummer, Loni. I had nearly the same surgery about 30 years ago on my right thumb. They put a button on the thumbnail and pulled steel wires thru it and hooked into the lower part of the thumb to keep it in place while the tendon grew back together. I think their timeline is pessamistic. Heal fast. Get Chris to convert your bike to an electric shifter and you can ride with the cast on.

Shotgun: That was way more information than we need. Uggggggg!

Loni: There have been more medical advancements made in our life time than in all of recorded history before we were born. Thirty years ago, Tommy John was a baseball pitcher that blew out an elbow and had a radical surgical procedure done to put his arm back together. Now people have "tommyjohn" surgery all the time and are as good as new in no time.

The doctors have this sort of thing all figured out. This will be a hard couple of months for you, of course, but fairly routine from a medical point of view. Work hard at your rehab and things will work out OK. I’m looking forward to seeing a healthy, two handed, Loni in July.

Matt- You really are out there big brother(in-law)! You were born first right? Mike is working in Bend but will be glad to see that you posted when he gets home. I will be sure and get the t-shirt off to you or have Mike do it when he gets home, he'll be spending his usual friday off going from motorcycle shop to motorcycle shop spending only a little money I hope!

Love you-

Loni- sorry to hear about your thumb, that totally sucks! I hope it heals up fast so you can sport that pretty red thing and your itty bitty self around the mountain. If not there is always the back of Chris' bike so you don't miss the ride all together. I'll send positive vibes your way!

Duane: Brandon went public at The Swiss last week and then posted his predicament here on the BadWeB. That's not license for me to start preaching about the evils of lawless behavior but I felt I could poke a little fun.

Speaking of cold:

Bob’s ST
