Tripper, my Wife owned a bike while she was in college! But she won't ride at all now, she insists one of us must stay alive to raise the children. Your plan is good, though, except the 9S has to be YELLOW! |

Ferris, You'll be glad to know we left Ferrisville as we found it. Took the Caliente/Bodfish route up - MAN WHAT A VIEW coming over the pass overlooking the valley!!! And me an amateur photographer without a camera. Saturday was a gorgeous day for a ride (or anything else outside for that matter) Last time I go on a ride without a camera in the tankbag. For anybody who hasn't run the Tehachapi/Willow Springs route up through Tehachapi (by the windmills) - has some great sweepers. Without traffic you can set the speed on 90 and just RIDE and not feel like you are pushing it. Glenn and I switched bikes for the first run from the Palmdale area up through to Tehachapi (first gas) - kinda interesting switch from the Great Pumpkin to the GSXR. Just ain't the same. Sure is quick, though. Cruised up Tehachapi/Willow springs at a pretty steady 110-120. Glenn did say he liked the feel of the Buell at speed - rock steady and predictable in the turns (we pushed a bit through the windmills) Tehachapi (touch-your-pee-pee) was a tad chilly but the whole ride was sunny so wasn't that bad (long underwear under levis was just fine) The route from Caliente up Caliente-Bodfish route is about as tight and twisty a road as I have ever been on. Just a tad dirty still but a LOT of switchback-like riding on pavement - but worth it for the view alone! There are a few hard HARD turns you have to expect - you are shifting down to second and maybe 25-30 if even that fast (I wasn't looking at the speedo). We are talking hairpins here... maybe 120 degree SHARP freaking turns. Long as you know going in that the road is like that, it's fun. Just can't really open her up but you are right - you just can't beat the scenery and can't be in a hurry. Kinda tough after blasting outta the valley here at 100++ Yes, the BFC's were out. We also had some other BFCs - Bovine Fecal Contributions... missed them but I bet they could really cause a break in traction if you were leaning hard and couldn't miss one. All the BFCs (bovine fecal contributors) were stationary and off the road but it does tend to make you want to keep the speeds down a bit. A cow as hood ornament on a Buell could be ugly. Lunch in Kernville at Cheryl's outside at and a short stroll around town - an ice cream cone and we mounted up. Came back along the river starting 495/155 (dang, brain cramp again) - don't remember the exact routing as I was following Glenn on his GSXR1000. Pulled off 58 to run through Keene and into Tehachapi the back way. Another tight can't-be-in-a-hurry route - rough surface and lots of dirty spots. Spent more time a tad sideways than I have in a long time. Nothing radical, we were really just putting but it was the sandy leftovers from the rain and knowing it was in almost every turn, you are just set up for it so it just makes it interesting. Finished coming back down Tehachapi/Willow Springs into Palmdale area and I got to find out what speed the rev limiter kicked in but I suspect my speedo indicates a bit high - I shouldn't have looked except I got startled by the sudden power change when the rev limiter hit and reflexively glanced down at the gages). A great run but I would have rather done the Solvang run with the BRAG folks just for the fellowship. That being said, I can't wait for the next run back to Kernville/Isabella. We're going somewhere again this Sunday if anybody wants to come on along. Thanks, Ferris for the use of your town while you were out! Steve |

Slaughter, Nice ride. You guys were going a whole bunch quicker than we were, though. Court, please note that Timbo and I were wearing our Team Elves shirts! |

awesome ride report Slaughter, you're makin' ME homesick, too! the Caliente/Bodfish Road is locally referred to as the Lion's Trail, and it sure doesn't break my heart that it starts less than a minute from my garage door. in fact, when you crest that last pass and look down into the valley, you can see the roof of my house from there. on my way back from Stockton last night, i had the up-river run on 178 from Bakersfield to Lake Isabella all to myself, and the sound of my Buell bouncing off the narrow canyon walls was pretty delicious. oh, and thanks for leaving Ferrisville as you found it. Sounds like Ferris Trail to me. I can't imagine anyone would be stoopid enough to call it something else. |

How about the Tehachapi/Ferrisville trail? I can't wait for the next run up to the Kernville/Isabella area again. There are probably 4 decent routes up there and about 4 or 5 local runs (if somebody were to camp or motel-it a couple days) Might run up for a weekend and just scope the area out... who knows? I wanna do it again sometime soon. Don't know where we'll be off to this Sunday but iff'n the creek don' be risin' - we be ridin' Oh yeah, Ferris, sorry about the Touching thing... wrong discussion group... Great ride though. I now want to do a speedo calibration run here just so I know what speed I really hit before I claim a personal top - it just didn't feel as fast as it read. Thanks again Ferris for the use of your town! |

Anybody want to come along on a ride this Sunday (weather permitting)? No specific route set yet - still looking at the weather. Unless something looks REALLY tasty, we aren't leaving Palmdale any earlier than 0900. So far we are really only talking about the 4 of us regulars from this area. |

Slaughter, i'm looking forward to hooking up with you guys (and gals, if applicable...), but this coming weekend is not good for me for that. fyi, we got a little snow last night, down to about 3800 feet. i'm sure the roads in and around Tehachapeepee are clear and dry, but it's certain to be very cold up there in the morning/evening. one of these weekends i'd love to hook up with y'all and have you show me around YOUR part of the world -- lunch at Newcomb's, perhaps? ride to lean, FB |

Ferris, We usually do something just about once a week - at least a couple of us. If not this weekend, lunch at Newcomb's is ALWAYS a do-able thing (though I try not to do snow). It is a short ride from here so we could meet you halfway and we all could run up the hill together or meet there and wing the afternoon. My buddy on the GSXR stays away from ACH because he is max'd out on tickets and the next one is gonna bite deep and the weekend patrols are really heavy (and the fines are $$$$)... but in my view, nothing says you HAVE to run at more than double the speed limit. Sometimes it's just nice to enjoy the ride! Can usually go pretty quick up Upper Big Tujunga and then slack off on ACH up to Newcomb's. It is a nice ride at any speed. Planning this weekend is gonna be a bit tough anyways because of the weather. Might just do some time at work if the weather looks iffy - juggle some weekend time and trade it for weekday time off - either for a ride or scuba diving. If the weather totally bombs, I still owe a racer a set of trick, secret, mondo-light, graphite Firebolt parts for his racebike and I might make them up this weekend if I don't ride. We'll connect soon enough. Stay in touch. Rubber down, helmet up and bugs in the teeth! (well... not in the teeth anymore but on the faceplate) Steve |

Steve, i depleted my moto-karma savings account a couple of weeks ago, narrowly avoiding a ticket from the CHP for doing 150 in a 60 zone. for the time being, i'm riding safe 'n sane 'n legal, whilst i build up my equity again. that said, a day on the ACH and the surrounding environs sounds absolutely marvelous. the weather's gonna pop any time now, and maybe with a little advance planning we can make a "big deal" outta this ride, eh? btw, so's ya know: the last time i rode the ACH, one of my riding partners (who shall remain nameless...BOB!) stuffed his perfectly pristine Ice White Pearl '98 S1W into a guardrail trying to cop the coveted "Rides like Ferris Bueller" trophy. the impact ripped the steering neck right off the frame. um, you sure you wanna go riding with me? Ferris, Last item first - hell yeah, I'll ride with anybody! I'll try to keep from stuffing the bike into any fixed or moving objects (I am getting sensitive to breaking 49 year-old bones). Meanwhile, let's set something up for a run up to Newcomb's for a ride and a lunch sometime. We have a couple new folks at work who have come out from MA and want to do Newcomb's. Maybe let's just figure a time/place and make it happen. We all can rendezvous anywhere between Ferrisville and here - maybe meet some of the others who come up the other side of the hill at Newcombs and do a bigger ride out from there in the PM. I can ping Tim and Candice to see but for sure, Daytona Weekend (10 days from now) we are partying at their house watching race finals on Sunday, March 09. So if we set something up for that Saturday, I know they can't make it - they are preparing for the BRAG and sportbike invasion of their place and I offered to help set-up because I live so close. Maybe the following weekend? Also it is pretty easy for me to barter my flex time during the week so that's an option too. |

Sounds like we've got two great happenings on the same day. Tim and Candice having their party, and now Jerry Johnson doing his get together. And I'm gonna miss them BOTH because I have a prior commitment. Dang it! Well, at least I don't have to decide one over the other. Timbo <--lookingforwardtothenextride |

Ferris/Jim/Matty/Tim... 3/15 and 3/16. Don't know if we could lean towards Sunday - that way folks working Saturdays (Matty for one) can maybe make it. The 16th will work well for me. The following Sunday will be the regular BRAG ride, too. |
