That's interesting. Sidestand on my first S1 was always dragging on the street too. Didn't drag the pegs though, but only had it five rainy days before it was stolen. The Thunderbolt drags everything.... pegs, fairing lowers, brake lever.... but not the side stand. Weird. Maybe the wider 5.5 inch PM rim keeps it off the deck. I dunno? Maybe I just need to try harder. :)

But yea, a bit of spring preload at either end ought to go a long way to increasing potential. Forks pretty lightly sprung for us heavyweights as equipped.

Maybe mod/re-fab the rear suspension lever to add a little ride height? Would steepen the rake angle a bit too. Have a bit more room for that on the S1 at 25*. Need to keep an eye on the trail when you mess with that though. Have run into too-little trail issues on other project bikes.... Gets yer attention when the suspension's compressed under really high cornering loads. =: ^o

Paul's place is easy to find. 914 Butter Road, on the south side between Shaver and Trinity. Look for a beige Mercedes. 905-648-5576 if you get lost.

Oh yea, you should get yerself some taller cogs too Caboose. Your free breathing X1 could handle that without strain. As you say, Mosport's back straight's a long one.

Picked up a used 29t front pulley for the S1 for a reasonable sum from a fellow in Loozieannah right here on badweb. I'll get a 55t rear when I can find one too.

There, now I'm tellin ya all my secrets.... :)

I understand the Euro models came with 29/55 combos... My S1's, like your X1, both had 27/61 while my S3 has 29/61 pullies.

I've been flirting with the idea of getting some "Crossroads" rear-sets and lower bars, but I really like the street fighter stance the bike has now. Besides, I've got to be pushing pretty hard or hit a bump mid corning to get things grinding. Said stance does make hanging off feel a little awkward, you've got to get your ass off the seat a bunch more than you do with more sporting ergo's.

Those pullies are damn expensive! I kind of remember a new rear one was $450 or something like that. The quickest I've seen on the X1 is 217kph with my brother on his CBR929 right beside me indicating the same speed. Soon after this point, he downshifted and dropped me like a stone. Leaving me looking for sixth gear??!! The lower gearing is perfect for the street though. Dail in 2000RPM in first, whack the throttle open, twist the right grip to adjust wheelie height and grin factor!

Maybe the Pro-Series race fairing will give me the extra top end I'm looking for due to reduce wind drag......NOT! I've made a couple of number plates for the sides of the bike using a $5 vinyl "For Sale" sign. There are OK but not great. Lots cheaper that the $50 for a pair of store bought ones. More importantly though, I've also purchased some HH sintered GFA race pads for the front brake. I ran some last year on my X1, great feel and heat resistance but they sure don't last long. Like you said, we'll have to make time in and out of the corners.

That's what I'm hoping for too. Today was warm enough to ride....4*C in Burlington. I would have gone out if the roads weren't covered with an inch of salt!

Winter? This is beginning to feel like an ice age! Last year there was a couple gatherings at the Ice House in Feb & March. Here's to hoping.

Are you guys into watching motorcycle racing on Speed Channel? The Daytona 200 is coming up. Its not the most exciting race but its a nice break from the winter doldrums. Maybe we could get2gether for some pints and watch the race?

I'm up for that Caboose. Keep us posted on time and place and I'll try to make it.

Saturday Feb 15th in Toronto is the CVMG's annual Lucas Memorial Push meeting at the Wheat Sheaf pub on Bathurst and King(I think?) at 7:30. It's a crawl around the area pushing a Brit bike with failed Lucas electrics from pub to pub. I'll likely be there along with other Airheads.

Whatever gets you through the farking winter, I say. :)

I hate winter,

This Sunday Feb. 09 I will be going to Lake Scugog (town of Port Perry), to watch some ice racing. No charge for admission, its just local club racing. It should make for a nice break from the norm'. Anyone interested in joining me, I'll be going with my crazy french friend Marc Lebel.

The racing starts at noon, figured we'd leave Burlington around 10:30. Sunday promises to be a calm day, high of -4*C with a 60% chance of some flurries. Where is a good spot in Waterdown to pick you up?

Go to http://www3.sympatico.ca/ocmc/index.htm
for more club info.

Oh yeah......We'll be back sometime before our nuts freeze off. I'm not sure what to expect as this is the first time I've attended this event. From the web site I can see that there is several classes from 60cc kid stuff all the way up to Open Expert. Prolly' be there for two hours, that will put us home around 4:00???

Lornce,

I must be an airhead, cause I just remembered my post. YES you can hang out with me on whatever bike you choose. Also, see my plan to hook up with Newfie in August and head out the UP and Ontario way. If you are around we might visit.

Hee hee. I wish I had some money to buy a nice used Beemer for touring, as my Buell does not seem like too likely a canidate for such without some serious investment...

:)Charlotte

Caboose,

Thanks, but I'm gonna pass. It'd only be frustrating watching the other guys have all'a the fun....

Charlotte,

Keep us posted on where you and the Newfer are gonna be, and we'll hook up. Your M2 orta be just fine for travelling, don't sweat it. If you guys are gonna be around in August, why not join us for the Ontario Airheads Pennsylvania Backroads Blam? It's more fun than a body oughta have. But we have it anyway.... :)

That's just before the apex of the last corner (12) at Cayuga in October of last year. I can never get enough track time, it sure is addictive.

Who is going to take picture's / video at Mosport?

On a side note, last year myself and five of my buddies rented Cayuga on a weekday for two hours. The cost worked out to $135 each including the ambulance. It was a little intense (kinda like packing an entire trackday into two hours) and I was spent by the end of it, but we had a great time. The best part of it all was you could take your time, try new lines without the worry of some bonzsai boy racer on a rough looking trackbike crashing you out. Would you guys be interested in renting the track for a couple hours?

Caboose, I would be interested. Especially if its a bit later in the summer. I want to get a chance to put some km's on my 9S before i take it to the track...
