Alright,,,Bloomington has my race ecm in today (8 days early) so now if it don't rain I can get it hooked up on sat. I guess I can always trailer it up. I have everything set up to get the tps and stuff reset at 11am on sat. with service. I need to find out about campgrounds for homecoming so I can get it reserved and see what it will cost. I just need to see for sure who wants to commit and I will find out the price for everyone before I reserve so you'll have an option.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if the b-town dealer has a 9s for sale, if so how much. Anyone think they can give me an idea of a trade in price of my 9s with 1100 mi 8/10 condition.

Thanks

PM me.

FAIRMOUNT, Ind. -- An Army reservist from Grant County was among four members of a Carolinas-based unit who died when a roadside bomb exploded in Afghanistan.

Spc. Joshua Hill, 24, of Fowlerton, and other members of the 391st Engineering Battalion were clearing a route in Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device detonated Sunday, killing them......The family has inviited us to attend - I will post any details when they become available - Spc. Hill has not arrived in Indiana yet and an educated guess is that the funeral will be sometime late next week, meaning March 24, 25, or 26 but only a guess for your planning purposes.
God Bless Spc. Hill and his wife and son (approximately 6 years old) and daughter (approximately 2 years old) and Spc. Hill's mother and father

I'm not going to keep posting this on here for the people that dont want me to, but if you want more info on where and when email me. I am going to go to this for sure and I know that the protesters will be there too. I was talking with some of the people with PGR and they really want all of us (as possible) to attend for the family and to block the protesters.

Greetings fellow Buell’ers. A few weeks ago I started a post revealing our successful start to the 2006 AHDRA (All Harley Drag Race Association) Season Opener at Gainesville, Florida. Just as I was putting the finish on a long winded, descriptive piece I lost the whole thing! I did not have time to re-right as I was off on a return trip to Florida for the Daytona 200. As I have recently returned I will try to catch everyone up on both events. Here Go’s!

We were looking forward to the start of the AHDRA season as we had never raced in a drag race sanctioned event. Our hopes were high for a brand new team and had set realistic goals for the first outing of the Harley-Davidson/Buell of Bloomington Race Team. As everyone knows the dealership had purchased a VSRCD or a V Rod Destroyer. The Destroyer Class (VRD) in AHDRA is a new class this year while running “head to head” against the same motorcycle, making the rider the most important factor. The restrictions on the class are; a factory stock bike and a motorcycle/rider combined weight of 730 pounds or more. Being a purpose built “factory” drag bike we knew the Destroyer had been tested thoroughly and had been approved “fit” from the Motor Company and ready to race. Jeff (Stevens) had an opportunity to take the Destroyer to Phoenix for test and tune runs while gaining one on one coaching from Tripp Nobles, of road and drag racing fame, at a drag race school. These sessions proved vital in the concentration and skills required to perform in head to head competition.

At the all Destroyer practice on Thursday Jeff’s practice time with Tripp was paying off as he was one of the fastest “novice” riders and turning times equal to the Pro’s. Having never being better than 9.82 at around 135.3 mph with a reaction time of .157 (all .000 being perfect) in Phoenix, he quickly jumped into the 9.6’s with reaction times into the double digit thousandths. As the day wore on he continued to improve both reaction times and speeds. Friday was once again a test and tune practice day where all competitors had an opportunity to run. I was thankful for the track time as my 1999 Buell X1 (Red Buell Racing)had just been completed and I had never had a chance to ride it. Additionally, having drag raced about seven years ago I was quite rusty. As the day finished up I found myself frustrated with an air shifter I could not get to shift through all the gears and a lock up clutch that worked a little too well. Jeff, as was becoming common, was improving continually in reaction time and speed. At days end I was left scratching my head and Jeff was a top time rider. Saturday rolled around and the qualifying started. Qualifying is a round robin affair where your best time is used to slot you against the closest competitor while giving everyone several pass’s on the track. At the staging line I was next to run when we heard an awful pop and hissing sound and I knew immediately what it was. I had blown a hole in the supply line to the air tank and lost all pressure. I pulled out of line and went searching for air line to repair the shifter. Meanwhile, Jeff ran several runs with his best being a 9.48 at 141.5 mph! The Destroyer crew was now a 9.4 team which is huge when considering most races are decided by mere tenths of thousandths! Jeff, and crew chief, Master Tech Rich Hankins, had reached the goal of “making the show” by qualifying sixteenth in the Destroyer Class and a solid thirteenth in the Super Gas Class. Super Gas is an “index” class, meaning you must run at or below a set time, open to any bike that can run the number. We were running SG as a practical practice for the Destroyer class. The index for SG is 9.7. It takes throttle and emotional control to run a 9.4 bike in a 9.7 class. I was running the X1 in both ET (Elapsed Time) and in the SEP (Screaming Eagle Performance) with an 11.5 index. Due to continuing problems I did not qualify in the top thirty two in SEP and did not make the final show but was ready for the ET class races.

Qualifying lasted until eleven thirty PM on Saturday which made Sunday morning an early affair. Sunday’s races found me on the sideline quickly with a poor shifting performance and I was out in the first round of ET. Jeff had drawn the number one plate holder from 2005 as his first round opponent in Super Gas and was eliminated on his first pass with a break out run. Break out being a situation where you run faster than your index. Index being a 9.7 in SG, Jeff ran a high 9.5. Remember what I said about precise throttle control! Even though, it was a good attempt and more practice time.
However, the Destroyer Class saw a different picture! Qualifying a respectful sixteenth, Rich had fine tuned the bike which was running constantly, pass after pass. From the first round of sixteen we made the next eight, which was the most exciting race of the event. Jeff ran against Donnie Hammond who is the reigning 2005 Champion and number one plate holder in the Super Eliminator (SE) class, also running in the Destroyer class. The race was a side by side affair with Jeff’s quick reaction time at the line proving to be the difference in the win! Rich had the bike running in top shape and Jeff was showing quite confidence and control. Myself and team member John Stevens were nervous wrecks, as we were only two wins away from being the season opener champion in a brand new class! Alas, it was not meant to be as Jeff made a mistake at the line and gave Gene Thomason the win. Even without the momentarily laps in concentration Jeff would have been hard pressed to beat the 9.38 time Gene put down. Gene wound up runner up as he lost in the finals to Don Stratton Jr. who ran a 9.46 to Genes 9.55.

Not knowing what to except, how the bike would run or how the team would perform were the questions we asked going in. As Crew Chief Rich said “this time next week we’ll be a lot smarter than we are now” and those words proved to true, ten fold. We now know what to except, how to prepare, what to concentrate on and how to “be ready”, for the next race of the season. Jeff has proven that he can run with the best the series has to offer and not be discouraged after a loss. All in all it was an amazing experience seeing a team come together and being forth in the nation in the AHDRA Destroyer Class is some achievement for a first time drag racer. Congratulation to Jeff and the team!

After an exciting start to the drag racing season, we returned the bikes to Bloomington and prepared for the turn around trip to Florida for the Daytona 200 and a return of Harley-Davidson and Buell to road racing!
What an exciting event this years Daytona 200 was, or a least the pre-finish results. There was a buzz in the air about the return of Buell and Harley-Davidson to road racing and the expectations were running high, at least among the Buell teams and enthusiast. Being fortunate to have an “all access” pass it was a thrill to see the garage, pit area and hospitality suites up close. The passes were bought through the dealerships and was limited to 125 Buell dealers, employees, owners and enthusiast who were given access to not only the team riders but factory department VP’s, employees and even Eric Buell and Willie “G” themselves. That was truly a very cool thing!
We spent the morning wandering the pits and getting pictures and all the autographs we could and watching bits and pieces of the Superbike practice. At the start of the Superbike race we made our way back to the top of the 500 Club suites. From the open air top we could see the pits, start finish line and turn around and walk 15 feet to the other side and watch the action going through the infield and on to the back straight. Best vantage point in the whole track! At the conclusion of the race we had access to the Winners Circle and could stand within champagne spray of the podium finishers. Also, standing in the 500 Club, where we actually we watched the ceremonies from just above and behind the podium, providing a up close and special look. Between the races I wandered to the pits where I got an opportunity for an autograph and personal picture with Mat Mladin, the Superbike race winner. Another thrill!
As you would expect, we were treated with food and beverages of your choice all day long provided by Buell. At lunch the Buell Team riders, along with Eric Buell, made their way to the suite for lunch, conversation and autographs.

The start of the race was filled with great anticipation for the Buell teams and fans. You could feel the electric buzz as the riders made their way to the grid! They received enthusiastic cheers and applause from the Buell enthusiast during the staging, sighting lap and at most every lap during the early stages of the race.
Most XBRR riders were making steady progress and holding their own in the beginning, but the results were not what everyone had hoped for. I won’t go into the action on the track as most everyone has watched the race or has read about the results. I will say, from Eric on down, the race was deemed a success. I did get an opportunity to ask Eric, “What Happened” and was pleased to learn it was one common problem in three of the XBRR’s. I won’t go into specifics, as to not be the source for rumor, but it was an area of concern before the race but a fixable one that should not occur at other tracks.

The whole experience was a great one from start to finish. By being up close with the teams and personnel we were made to feel part of the team. Everyone involved should be commended on their professionalism and friendliness to us outsiders as they made us feel welcome. I do consider it a once in a lifetime experience and will cherish the memories.
I do feel Buell made a statement as to the competitiveness of the brand. They have produced a motorcycle that in time will prove to be a winner both on the track and on the sales floor. After all, any exposure is always a positive and Daytona was the beginning of a new era for Buell and Harley-Davidson. Only real testing can be on the race track under race conditions and yes Buell failed to finish, but it pointed Team Buell in the right direction which will, undoubtedly, result in wins we can be proud of. Great Effort!

Irony: Japanese Parts Caused Buell Retirements In Daytona 200
Mar 17, 2006
Copyright 2006, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

The fleet of Buell XBRR racebikes entered in the 2006 Daytona 200 were stopped by broken FCC clutches made in Japan, according to sources close to Buell Motor Company.

Early indications are that porous castings may have been to blame, as the design in question has been used successfully on Buell racebikes for years and underwent extensive pre-Daytona testing on the XBRR.

New clutches were installed on the Buell racebikes prior to the start of the Daytona 200, ironically in an effort to ensure the bikes would go the distance.

None of the XBRR Buells suffered an actual engine failure in the race.

"OK this is definite according to the family - the funeral will be Wednesday (March 22, 2006) in Fairmount, IN. Plan on being at our staging area (to be announced) by 1:00 PM that same day. We need everyone that can to show - 4 wheels or 2 wheels or hitch hiking. THOSE PEOPLE (The protesters) state they are going to be there and this will be there 1st appearance since the passing of the Funeral Bill so we need to show our support and again make them see by shear numbers that they are not welcome in Indiana.
God Bless All and see you then.
I will post the staging site when I can but at least you know when to be in the Fairmount, IN area." If anyone wants to go with me let me know. I will depending on the weather trailer the bike up and ride up there so anyone can ride with me and I'll trailer your bike with mine unless you'll want to ride, I can do that too.

A 25-year-old Army soldier from Indianapolis was killed Tuesday in Iraq, the apparent victim of sniper fire as he manned a machine gun on a Humvee.

Spc. Antoine J. McKinzie, a 2000 graduate of Pike High School, was patrolling Baghdad in an armored Humvee, said his stepfather, Dwight Adams.

McKinzie is the fifth soldier or Marine with ties to Indianapolis to die in Iraq.

McKinzie served in the 27th Field Artillery Regiment in the Army's 4th Infantry Division and was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. He was last home at Christmas and had spoken to his family as recently as Wednesday.

"He felt like he was doing an important job," Adams said. "He was proud to serve his country."

The family was notified of McKinzie's death Tuesday at their Pike Township home.

Details will follow when available.

Hi Chad,

I'll be going to Phoenix next week (April 8-9), Dallas (April 22-23) and then to St. Louis (May 6-7). I think the next AHDRA event Ron is planning on participating in will be the May event in St. Louis.

Once the weather breaks we'll have to organize a Tuesday night or two to Indianapolis Raceway Park's street legal night. It is a lot of fun and only cost $15.00. If you get there early you can usually get 10 laps or so down the 1/4 mile.

hey ryan,
i should have gotten with you earlier, as i thought i might miss you. i was working on the bike on saturday morn/aft. a buddy stopped by and we took a break out into the woods to spread some corn around to attract some critters. we sat around for a while trying to lure some turkeys with a call, but i think we made too much noise for even a deaf and blind bird, deer, possum, etc.

anyway, i didn't get to the dealer until about 3:15. everyone was leaving and they were breakin' it down.

the enforcer rehab is amazing. did you see it before the effects of the fire were fixed? lots of work to get that result!!

ron's bike got fired up, so i got to see that. i'm sorry i missed everything else, and didn't meet up with you.

oh well, there is lots more stuff comin' up in the future. see you soon............eddie
