Then it sounds like you have Plan B!! This is why I'm doing March Badness with C3 Central! I have to have plans!! Some call it control issues.......no comments from the peanut gallery.

Carlee has horses this afternoon and Carlos is taking her, so he'll be on later tonight, providing I don't kill the computer before then.

I liked last year's plan- ride 12 hours, then pull into gas station parking lot in Daytona and start calling buddies till you find space. ;)

Awww shucks, it was just my way of reminding everyone that the A in BRAG stand for ADVENTURE.

Honestly our confusion last year could've been avoided, which is why I will give Jeff as soon as I can and see what's up with the alternate accomodations. I'm suspecting the canned response 'There's always rooms available, as long as you have cash...', though.

Hey everyone, whassup?

thought I would drop in say hi....Laura and I are committed on the house with a closing date of march 31st, so garage here we come!

On the Bike, did a new primary cover and the magura Hydraulic clutch conversion... Man that is easier, though from you tubeframe mechanics refresh me on correct way to adjust the clutch behind the derby cover(I am lookin at you here 1313)

Daytona sounds fun, to a point, the crowds and crowds of "harley people" (yeah I am aware how weird that sounds for me to say that) are not my style...

We are thinkin of as the weather warms rather than the usual Sunday morning ride to Michaels on 15/501 thinking of trying to get people to come out to O'mallys on Glenwood, figure it is different and there is always running up around Falls lake to the north and Jordan to the west as well as breakfast...

sound like a plan?

Hey everyone, whassup?

Well I got on my bike to day to drive home from work and it felt really wierd. Looked down and I had a flat tire. I limped it down the road to a service station and put 40 lbs of air in the rear. That got me home ok.

I called cyclegear and ordered a tire. I got the rear that goes on the CityX because Carlos said he was going to. I guesss I'll be your gunnie pig. I hope you weren't kidding!

Of course that tire is gonna be really flat by the time the replacement is here, which will make getting it to the dealer interesting. I wish I could take it off the bike, but thats a little beyond me.

Sporty, that sounds cool to me!

To adjust the clutch:

1-Loosen cable adjuster until there is to shorten the housing until there is a large amount of free play at the clutch lever.

2-With the inspection cover removed(duh), remove the spring and lockplate. Turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until it lightly bottoms.

3-Turn the adjusting screw clockwisw 1/4 turn. Re-install the lockplate and spring. If the hex doesn't align, rotate the adjusting screw clockwise until it aligns.

4-Squeeze the hand lever to maximum limit 3 times. This sets the ball and ramp mechanism. Pull the outer cable conduit and at the same time adjust the cable adjuster til you get about 1/16" to 1/8" free play at the lever. You can double check that the adjustment is correct by pulling the end of the cable housing away from the lever bracket. The resulting gap should be 1/16"-1/8". Re-adjust as necessary then lock everything down. Install derby cover then check free play one more time.

though from you tubeframe mechanics

Why is it that he'd expect the tube frame guys would know how to work on their bikes, hmmm?

I guess so! That coulda gotten weird in a hurry..............I'll be curious to see how the Pirelli changes the Uly's character.

Jim, I wasn't kidding but did get a D616 replacement this time around from Ron Ayers. I try to keep the tires matched and the front tire is good. When the front tire wears out the Syncs are definitely next, unless someone else comes out with an aggressive tread pattern sport bike tire like the D616 and Syncs.

Here is my latest trial and tribulation with the Uly. I got the new bag liners and put stuff in them and tried to put my lunch box on the outside of the liner because my brain fart told me it would be quicker to get to. The bag did not want to close, I do not know if the lunch box and the liner just were too much side by side, or a part of the liner was caught in between the sides of the bag. I get the latch hooked and with two thumbs trying to close the bag, and my two index and middle fingers on the latch I tried to close the latch and this is what I got....

Man, it would have taken more force to snap a pencil than it did this latch. At a closer look, it is a poor design. The latch is nice and wide, but the latch is only as strong as its weakest point. That narrow center is it, and it is weak! If I hadn't scraped up the other bag, they would be on there way back to Harley now. I always suspected that the latching system was weak, but in my euphoric glee I thought the company knew what it was doing. WRONG!!! This will be the second warranty claim on this bag in about a dozen uses. Remind me to pack duck tape for the trip to Florida. You never can be too careful.

If all else fails, I can get the latch from Eurotech for about thirty bucks because I am not paying the same amount to ship this bag again to Wisconsin. Also I am afraid I won't have it back in time for Daytona. I am going post this and see if anyone else is having this problem. I dought it though, the traveling season hasn't started yet and most people got their bags after the last riding season was over.

Mark,

Just a quick note on the clutch adjustment- the book says to go clockwise 1/4 turn, but I never liked the clutch that way. It gives a more abrupt engagement that takes up less than half of the lever travel. The clutch is stiff enough already, so I usually go clockwise a 1/2 turn.

Mark - I didn't see your note up there. Thanks! (and I'd love to cook for you all as well). I was going to take the bike to Ray Price, but if the wheel isn't on the bike, Cyclegear will mount it for something like $20.

The plug gun sounds great too since the tire won't be here till the middle of next week.

Hey Mark. Give me a call. I have tools a service manual and a utility building with a heater if you need to adjust your clutch. Sounds like it's going to be winter again this weekend. Was thinking about going over to Shelton's in Durham Saturday for their open house for a little while but should be around most of the weekend.

I hope everyone can come to the next meeting, we have some good things to talk about. Also I want to discuss some plans I have to boost membership for the club. Plus we need to get everyone to sign their new membership and don't forget this year we are starting a $10 dues. The dues money will help us to get things we need for the club.

Thanks Jim...

Gramps the bike is currently in my parents garage off Reedy Creek... I am in the process of a hydraulic clutch conversion so I was experiementing...as it does not need as much play room since it does not have to deal with the
cable movement during steering movement
O-Mallys is on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh in the pleasent valley area, they just started opening for Breakfast about 2 months back.
we just got tired of the Michaels scene, plus it is in the middle no nowhere, and crowded for the amount that turnout...
And Jim drop me a line we might be able to stop by and plug up that tire this weekend. Only takes like 10 minutes

Hey Quick link to the Hydraulic clutch conversion pics

I need some advice from you all. As you know I've got a flat and Mark is going to plug it for me. I've seen debate on this board about whether plugs are good things, which is why I went ahead and ordered a new tire.

However, the idea of leaving the plugged tire on for the trip to Daytona is appealing. That way I could have fresh rubber for MB3 instead of tires with 1200 miles of I-95 on them. Is this a good idea?

On a different note, I actually spent some time looking at the tire yesterday. I'm not very impressed with the life of the D616s. I've got 1600 miles on it, and while it has a lot of tread left, you can definitly tell it has worn significantly. It would definitly need to be changed after another 1600 miles. This is consistent with what others have reported, but I thought I might do better because I'm not really a corner carver. Hopefully the Perrillis will do better.

I would probabally not leave the plug in for that kind of trip, but hell from you house to Ray price, i would not figure is a problem, unless you go by way of Daytona

If you've ever watched a cooking show, you know they make a big deal about washing up after you handle raw chicken. It apparently coverd with evil bacteria.

So I'm making some soup, slicing up the chicken, and I manage to stick the knife into my finger. I'm sure I only managed to inject a few hundred million samonella cells into my body.

I just read the Daytona thread and Vegasbuller's wife made of point of saying that the people who were going to stay with her are still welcome to come. So I guess the question is do we take her up on it? Sammie has a lot on her plate, and I wouldn't want to be in the way. At the same time if she actually wanted the company, I'd hate not to go.

Perhaps Kristi can do some of that magic female to female stuff and figure out what we should do?

I'll have to pass on the word. 1313 and I were talking today about arrangements for Daytona. He is getting up with his friend about the condo. Brankin originally thought there was going to be a larger number of us, but with only six, it won't be that bad. I know that Sammy doesn't want to put anyone out, but I do not know if she really would want all this company now. I guess letting the cruise director handle it is an option, but I know I was leaning toward the condo.

I just spent all day at Carlee's basketball tournament. Our group of girls have gone through many sports together including soccer which I coach. One of the other girl's father coaches them in basketball. This is only their second season playing and they had won about as many games this season as they lost. Though they were not ranked on the bottom, they were only mid-pack and had to play from the bottom up. The first game was actually last night to a team that beat us during the regular season. The girls beat the other team last night by a comfortable margin. They started to believe in themselves and they came alive. They had to play three games today. On their second game today they won a very hard fought game in overtime to claim southern division entry to the championship game. We the other teams play and the team that one the northern division entry defeated and very impressive team by a mile and we knew we were in for a match. Last game our girls traded baskets with the other team. They were down one point with the last few seconds of the game and the ball, but even after three shots they just couldn't get the ball to drop. They took second but with their heads held high, that no team could walk the floor with them. It was a fun, but long day.

Maybe we should all chip in and have "Merry Maids" take care of the Moody place a couple of times to help Sammy out. What do ya think? As far as staying there, I can't decide whether the folks in her house would help her or whether a condo would be better.
