At this point I can't count on going to Daytona. . . . but if I miss it I'm going to try and make it up by making it to TWO or homecoming. |

Jim N.- You said something in another thread about used oil analysis. I've done a few through Blackstone Labs and have some of the test collection kits in my garage. Blackstone will send you the kits for free, but you're welcome to the extra ones I already have. |

1313 - What happens on Monday? Jim, I hope you've been keen enough to notice the big news today was the announcement of the Buell accessory GPS for the Ulysses: It was such big news that Buell sent me an E-mail about it: Never mind the hub-bub about the XBRR... You and I know it is just a photoshop decoy to keep everyone away from the GPS... So, has anyone talked themselves into Daytona now? 1313 |

1313, yes. I'm going. Riding the Springer down on Friday before the 200. Planning on sleeping on the floor at Vegasbuller's house and going to the BBQ's he's having. Let me know what your plans are. |

Spike, Happy Birthday, fellow Buellaholic! Sorry Carlos didn't win enough coin in the lotto to get you the 30K B-day present... It's kind of unusual, Thursday is the birthday of my buddy who worked the DC IMS, as well as 3 colleagues I work with here have birthdays this week. I thought it was great to see this fellow pictured in some of the Development shots of the XBRR. When I was back home for Christmas in East Troy Glen and I had a few beers together at one of East Troy's most happening bars. Southern, So far as I know Carlos and I are going and Rubberdown is also going. Maybe Carlos and I can meet up with Mike on the way as we are leaving Friday, March 10th and coming back Sunday, March 12th. My whole intent is to see the Daytona 200 with Buell's in it. Like I told Glen when I saw him at the bar in East Troy: 'I'm going to Daytona to see the 200 this year, so don't it up for me!' 1313 |

I am really wanting to go...Still just not thrilled that I have no bike luggage. And, as I will be stretching my money just to go, There is little chance of buying some. But I really want to go badly. |

I'm riding the Springer to Daytona. Leaving Friday a.m. the 10th and returning Sunday or Monday. I'm bet you ride an XBRR back. Isn't it time to buy a new bike? |

Jim, I hope you've been keen enough to notice the big news today was the announcement of the Buell accessory GPS for the Ulysses Thats very convienent. My last GPS got stolen when my car got broken into at Ray Price. It took me a few days to figure out it was gone. Interestingly, they left the cables, which were with it in the gove box. Mike, if you get an XBRR, I'll get a GPS. |

Larry - Carlos went to Cincinnati for a weekend on the M2. All he had was the Buell sling bag. However, going to Daytona, he'll have all 3 bags on the Uly, so space coming back will not be an issue. We can work out the details later. Southern Marine -- last year Brankin and Carlos met in Kinston and traveled down Hwy 55 to Dunn and met Spike coming from Raleigh and from there they headed to Daytona. Brankin -- is the condo deal still on for this year? Carlos is really excited that there seems to be a good group going from C3. You guys will have a great time. Kristi |

Spike - Thanks for the offer. What was your experience with oil analysis? I'm interested in learning more about oil. There is a lot of contradictory information floating around. At the top of my list is oil change intervals. Buell says 10,000 miles between changes for the Uly, and thats with dino oil. Other people say 2500 miles period, even with synthetic. I'd like to be able to figure out when it starts to deteoriate so I'd know whos right. |

Jim, I've always lived by the axium: You can never change oil too much, but you can change it too little. In regular service, the bikes and cars get changed every 5000 miles, if there's been some severe use, such as a track day on the Buell, I change it before and after beating on it. |

Not 100% sure on the condo in Daytona at the moment. The buddy of mine who scored us the deal last year must have passed out when he opened the E-mail I sent him about the XBRR last night, or something. I just tried the old fashioned way of contacting him (phone call) and got no answer. When I talked to him around Christmastime he said 'it shouldn't be a problem'. I will get a hold of him and find out for sure what the skinny is. We definitely need to have better planning for reservations than we did last year, don't we guys? 1313 |

Jim- I've only ever done the oil analysis on my car, I change the XB's oil often enough that I didn't worry about the analysis. Also, the analysis costs more than an XB oil change even with synthetic, so you'd have to run extended oil change intervals for quite a few miles before you earned back the cost of a few UOAs. If you really want to get your head spinning, head over to bobistheoilguy.com and read through the forum. Some guys there swear by the cheapest oil you can find and using short OCIs, other guys swear by using high end synthetics and extended drain intervals. Worse yet, they all have UOAs that back up their claims. After everything I've read the only thing I can come up with is that it really doesn't seem to matter what you use as long as you change it on a semi-regular basis. The synthetics are proven to be "better" oils, but even the cheapest conventional oils aren't likely to cause a problem unless you just never change it. Oil related failures just don't seem to happen. That being said, I still use synthetic in my XB and change it every 2500 miles. For whatever reason I still think that during those times when I'm stuck in traffic in the middle of the summer or when I'm abusing the rev-limiter at the track, the synthetic will do more than the conventional could. I might be wasting my money, but if you figure the synthetic is $3/qt more than conventional I've only wasted about $100 over the entire time I've owned the bike. Then again, you may have your used oil analyzed and find that your 12X is perfectly happy with 10k mile oil change intervals, which would leave you with extra money for gas and tires. |

I know that gregory poole (like 1/4 mile from your house Jim) does oil analysis, but I am not sure they do it for the public, but could not hurt to check |

1313, Carlos, and all going to Daytona, I am all for chipping in on a condo. For now, I have taken Vegasbuller up on his offer of floor space at his place. Have you been following the thread on his offer of space and BBQ's? Can't wait! |

Thanks for all the info. I'm not so much trying to save money with the oil analysis (though I wouldn't mind,) as I am trying to understand this stuff. There is so much contradictory information floating around. I've seen the bobistheoilguy website. Its great. The other thing I've seen, is a study someone did comparing car oils to motorcycle oils. The upshot of that one was that the companies producing motorcycle oils were comparing them to car oils from the '80s, and they were actually inferior to current car oil. Thats when I started using Mobil 1 auto oil in my bikes. |

Does anyone know anything about windmills in Farmville? I've got a book of day trip destinations from RDU, and they have Farmvilles windmills on the list. I was thinking about taking Rebecca down there on Saturday. Anyone else want to come? I'm also going to invite a friend of a friend with a Suzuiki who might want a Uly. |

Jim -- I've got a friend who is a police officer in Farmville, I'll ask him about the windmills. Let us know your travel times, etc. and maybe we can get a sitter and meet you somewhere. Since an XBRR has been ordered at NRHD, who's turn is it for a new bike??? I think Carlos and Jim Nance are out of this one!!! Maybe the Uly wasn't so expensive after all!! Kristi |
