OK, I'm starting to get some traction on this, so I'm going to use this new thread to get the word out and keep track of everybody. I've got seven firm attendees as of this morning, and I'm hoping for plenty more. In case you haven't heard, I'm hosting a get-together at my ranchito near Brenham TX between Thursday Jan 19 and Sunday Jan 22. Come for three nights or come for an hour, but come. There's good riding in the area, I'll have some local maps and route recommendations. We rarely get freezing weather down here, so if it's dry, we ought to be able to get some seat time in. I'm thinking we'll do some kind of big feed on Saturday--BBQ or burgers or something like that. If you're staying overnight, bring a bedroll or sleeping bag. I've got a few beds and couches, but if they fill up you might need to crash on the floor. There's lots of room for tents or campers if you're bent that way. I do have showers and indoor plumbing! PM me through my BWB profile and I'll put you on my e-mail list of attendees. When the date starts getting close, I'll send out maps, cell #'s and directions for those that need them. rt |

Don't forget the get together in Dallas on the 23rd. The only part I'm going to be able to make. |

Pie at the ranchito. We'll miss you, Dave. Send Kandie! Cobbler is more traditional with BBQ! Many Texas BBQ joints offer it... rt |

Any bike rental places nearby, and what's the nearest airport? |

Trampster: Austin would be your nearest airport, but Houston Hobby or IAH are about the same distance and probably have more flights. Don't know about rentals, but I think I can scare up some wheels for ya... rt |

Cool! I wasn't fishing for lender wheels, and thank you for the very big offer. Lemme see how ugly airfares are to that area. "Austin"....huh. "Austin City Limits" was always my favourite music show... |

tramp, its a 30 hour drive. couple guys could could split it up easy! my wife's b-day is the 19th so i'm guesssin that knocks me out of the runnin. i do have a soft spot for texsians though as i lived there for a short time, not nearly long enough to be honest. austin has some unreal riding roads, like a roller coaster around "the lake", 218 with 50-100ft instant elevation changes, think huge table top jumps from the eighty's. |

You Yankees should also check aboot flights into XNA, I will be piggy backin' my bike to Texas. I got an extended cab last time, so I could fit, two to three in the back. Also Jay, think about asking Doz and Jester to go, you guys could split: sleeping, and driving, and fuel arrangements in that big 'ol truck and trailer of Doz' |

$293 from Newark to Houston non-stop, or $281 to Austin, TX non-stop. Depart Newark on the 17th and return on 23 (Message edited by cochise on December 18, 2005) |

Thanks Joe. that's actually looking kindasorta doable. If I go, however, I'll have to borrow a pit buell to chain to my favourite spots on the ice up here, lest some interloper be a-anglin' me Crappies. |

looks like the extra bucks to fly into austin with an s2 waiting is the deal. depending how big this gets i might have to get the wife to pack pies in the truck. i can only carry 3 on the buell if the kid rides along. hope i can survive a few more weeks of work. later...philip |

Dave, sorry we'll miss you at the ranchito. But we'll drink a Diet Pepsii in your honor... ...actually, this whole deal came about as a corollary to your Dallas trip, so I guess thanks are due to you for inspiring the First Annual Ride to the Ranchito! I'll send you a bill for your share of the damages... Congratulations on the award! rt |

Probably not, Dave, I'll be taking a couple of days off work to host the ranchito gathering, then I'd need to take a couple more to go up & back to Dallas. That's a lot of time off just to watch you refuse to eat perfectly good okra! I was hoping you'd be able to make it down here, ride the Hill Country with us, then take a victory lap to Dallas to collect your award. Such is life... rt |

Alive and kickin'. I'll be there and I'm trying to round up some "fellow travelers". HBJ "All truth (about Buells) passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Secondly, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." --Arthur SchopenBuelly |
