The last couple of days I have seen the same XBR (blue with amber windscreen). I have seen this bike around Maryland Heights area. First time on Page extension heading towards St Charles. Second Time on Dorsett and McKelvey.. Is this a SLAB member or Badwebber? (Message edited by gjmcmanus on June 14, 2005) |

Jerry...On May 24th due to heavy rainfall several rock and mud slides (about ten) occurred on the Beartooth Highway...In a few cases the road was either completely washed away or undercut so badly that the roadway is unsafe...The state of Wyoming has declared it a disaster area and are seeking federal funds to effect repair...But due to the extreme location of the road it will not be a quick and easy fix...Especially if done the correct way to be safe...The last prediction I read is that it will not be open until October...Yea, like I want to be on a scooter at 10,400 ft in October...In Wyoming/Montana...Not!... Sooooo, last year rain kept me out of Death Valley due to closed roads and this year it's the Beartooth...All I can say is that if you see me planning a ride somewhere, head the other way... And that pic was kind of the defining moment on that whole trip...That's where the bonding really started...And that big smile on my face was for you!... I, too, hope to do it again...And what's this I hear about you being kitted up in a 'Stich and riding a FJR...Jeez, you've gone over to the dark side like the rest of us...Ride safe, bro... Bob |

the dark side? well, i've been riding now for exactly 40 years -- i guess it was just a matter of time. that was indeed a fun ride up and down 341 (MUCH more fun coming down!), sure enjoyed our time together. ride to lean, Ferris-San |

Subject: Ride...Sunday...July 17...Eureka QT...0800 We will be riding to the Red Bluff Campground in the Mark Twain National Forest stopping first at the Davisville country store to pick up sandwiches and drinks...Then on to the campground for lunch and a dip in the cool Huzzah Creek beneath the beautiful red bluffs which give the site it's name...And ride some more in the afternoon or you may choose to return home from after...So bring a swimsuit, towel and beach shoes (if your feet are like mine on gravel!)... Thanks, Bob |

Ride, Eat, Swim, Ride...Sunday July 31...9:00 a.m...Burger King at I-44 and 100 This will be fun!!!...Take your choice of cruising, sport touring or dual sporting...This ride does it all and culminates with a cooling dip in the Huzzah Creek at Red Bluff Campground in the Mark Twain National Forest just east of Davisville MO... Be fueled and ready to go from the Burger King at I-44 and 100 at 0900...This is the Washington MO exit...So try to get there by about 0830 or even earlier to kick tires and meet the other riders... We will have a street route via some great twistie back roads and a dual sport extravaganza which I am assured is doable by big GS's, 'Stradas and DL1000's... Lunch will be at the Viburnum Inn located in (where else?) Viburnum MO on 49 between Cherryville and Bixby...They have a nice moderately priced buffet that will enable us to feed a group in the most efficient manner and time...Both street riders and dual sporters will meet up here for lunch... Then it is on to the Red Bluff Campground which is only a few s'miles away...Please bring such items as a swim suit, towel, beach shoes/booties, bug repellant, fishing gear, dive mask, snorkel and fins and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, refreshments (use your own judgement here)...There is NO potable water in the campground!... And after the swimfest you can have your choice of ice cream either at The Bixby Country Store or in Steelville... WARNING...Please exercise caution and restraint on 19 and I-44 if you choose to go home that way due to the drunks coming off the streams and the LEO's looking for them... And, lastly, a big "THANK YOU" to the gals and guys of Bourbeuse Valley H.O.G. for welcoming all of us to take part in their regularly scheduled "Last Sunday of the Month" ride... Please feel free to forward this to anyone you think may be interested... Thanks, Bob |

Bob and John, Sam, Frank, Mike and I were eating lunch at this little restaurant up in the mountains south of San Fancisico surrounded by several hundred other motorcycle enthusiasts. The first thought that all of us had was "So when do you think Bob and John will come pulling in for lunch?" So what did we do? We even tried to call Bob to see if you guys were out there. Well and maybe rub it in a bit. Keith |

Keith...Chances of taking the group north are slim and none...The last one being the answer...I'm sorry but if I take these people anywhere north of I-44 or east of the big creek they throw things at me, slash my tires and kick my dog(s)...We rode down the Bluff Road south of Columbia IL to the ferry back over the big creek at Ste Genevieve and the comments were "well, we should ride over in Illinois once a year just to remind ourselves why we don't ride in Illinois...And the freakin' ferry is now charging $4 a bike...$8 a car...That's $16 a day for commuters!!!...Gotta love those oil producers...Makes me love the shirt that says "Nuke and Pave" even more... I'm really glad you guys had a great trip to Laguna...And the result couldn't have been better...I'm green with envy...But mostly, I would have loved to have spent the time with you guys...This summer has sucked as far as trips for me have been concerned... Thanks, Bob |

DAve...Sadly, no I no longer have Pumpkin...She was the victim of a wrong way drunk driver on a divided, but not interstate, road last fall...I was escorting an out of state rider from Eureka to I-55 on M highway...Waved goodbye to him and turned left onto an intersection between the east and west lanes...Turned left again back west toward home and here comes headlights in my lane over the crest of the hill I was riding and accelerating up still in the leftmost of the two west bound lanes...I was in the left track of my lane so I swerved onto the shoulder to avoid the head on and who the hell knows what happened from there?...I ended up down in the median and Pumpkin slammed into a guard rail further up the road...The drunk ended up several hundred yards back to the east also in the median...He proceeded to drive up the slope of the median and fled the scene...Never to be found...Pumpkin was a total...I was in my 'Stich and didn't have a bump on me...But boy was I lucky...No skid marks from the bike but the skid marks from the pickup told us he swerved left as I also was...He lost control and skidded back to the right and at times there were only one set of marks indicating he was on two wheels only...Glad he didn't swerve right at first or I wouldn't be here typing this... How's tricks, Huckleberry? Bob |

"Bob need another Buell?" Tripper...Well maybe there's hope...Polaris and KTM are in bed...How about H-D and Ducati...John and I would each have new ST3s's in our garages in a heartbeat...We'd have engines that don't break stuff by metal stress from the vibes...A much better dealer net work when compared to the likes of BMW...And the sexiest sport touring bike on this planet...BTW, John told me that the rumor is that Ducati is eliminated the ST4s and putting the good stuff on the ST3 to make it a ST3s, the engine of which gets raves as a real world engine...The "good stuff" being the suspension and brakes...All the premo goodies... Damn that is UGLY! Is that BOb's arm? That Stitch has saved your hide on more than one occasion. The Duc' ST4 and STs's are sweet indeedy. The dealership in Peoria was always good at throwing motorcycles at ya to test ride. ISn't the Peoria TT comin' up? There is a good Triumph, Ducati, BMW dealership here in Birmingham. The type of place that "riders" congregate at. Where are you fella's nowadays? HSTA still? FJR forum? ST1300 forum? The SLAB has been sparse. Remember our first SLAB meet? This one isn't it but damn that 'stictch was looking new! Ever get those pictures developed from the digital BOb? DAve |

That IS Bob's arm allright, about 2 days after the event he described. So when Ferris is coming through on his previous adventure, Bob just grabs another bike and leads Ferris to California. Amazing. |

DAve...Jeez, I'm never going to live those pics down...John still teases me about them every chance he gets...You know, in hind sight that prolly was not such a good med decision to leave on that long trip...What with blood clots and all...But it really didn't bother me much...Of course, how easily we forget pain...If we didn't, we wouldn't have any brothers or sisters... See my post below re what's happening with us in October...Eveyone is invited, of course... Bob |
