There's a SCAB meeting at Knowlwoods in Yorba Linda this Thursday Aug 4th at 7 pm. Don't know what Al or Ebear has planned for the meeting but I've got something special to offer. At last year's No Wine'n Tour someone donated to me a 5 liter jug of S100 motorcycle cleaner. There's about 3 liters left and I'll never use that much. What say I bring it and distribute it to anyone who brings an empty container. Free! All those who would be interested, say so here. Thanks, Sparky |

OK. I've got 7 bottles of S100 for the SCAB meeting tonight. Maybe offer them as raffle prizes? Sparky |

Hey all, I'm in San Luis Obispo this week on a little getaway. Brought the bike for some good coastal riding and was wondering if there's anybody in the area that can recommend any decent bike friendly night spots or bike nights in the SLO/Pismo area. |

All - Well - Tim and Candice are out of circulation still and they'd appreciate somebody willing to take the lead as group leader out of Glendale this month down to American Sport Bike for the BBQ. Sunny and I can't go - if we do, it'll not be decided until the last minute. Al was requesting a head count - but the mob would also need somebody to sorta round up the folks and head em out. Don't know if there's any takers. |

Posted on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 06:02 pm: (Originally posted to Arizona Area) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howdy Guys...My first time posting to your area....This is my last ditch effort to entice you great folks(and I know you are 'cause Ferris said so!) into coming to Oktoberfast!.... I remember the original attempt to do this was somewhat thwarted because someone accused Kalifornicate of thinking it was the "Golden State"....well,it is!...LOL...but not for what you think! What makes it THAT way is not the housing costs or the high cost of anything...rather it is the incredible kindness and generosity of some of the people(much like alot of YOU people) that call this their home... I'm talking about people like Jerry and Denise and Al and Joanne and Don and Arlene(Ar'lean') Sabatino and on and on.Jerry and Denise open their homes to us unselfishly and ask US to come there and stay, and drink their beer and use their stuff and they feed us and let us plod through their home with no issue and no agenda other than to see us have a great time and get to know them for the wonderful people they are....It just DOESN'T get any better than this...just ask ANY of the past participants....go ahead....I'll wait...........................................................OK...convinced ?????...you should be !!!And since I feel the cost of the trip to The Giant Sequoias might be prohibitive to some(God only knows I certainly don't have alot of extra money these days!)If you examine the cost versus the "value received" this may be the cheapest "Best Time" you can have legally! Consider the Lodge cost.... Friday night.....cost...$0 Saturday night...cost...$99.00 Sunday night.....cost...$99.00 Now,what do we get for this $200 bucks???? How about 2 dinners from a fine Chef..at minimum worth probably about $25.00 each..2 lunches worth at minimum $15.00 each and 2 breakfasts worth about $10.00 each......adds up to about $100.00 bucks..subtract from $200.oo bucks equals 50 bucks a night,to stay with the oldest living things on earth..no,not me and Ferris!!..but the most INCREDIBLE trees you'll see around. And to hang with your Bueller friends and if you bring kids the lodge will show them one of the most fun and educational times they could spend in the Outdoors...Now...how could you NOT come??????? Got ME!!!!so if you might reconsider, and were all hoping you do,please check out the Oktoberfast 2005 thread and reserve your space at the Montecito Lodge...and we'll be awaiting you with outstretched hands(holding some GREAT beers) for your arrival.....Cheers!!!! Greetings, Many of you have RSVP'd that you are coming to the American Sport Bike BBQ. If you are coming but haven't let us know, please do ASAP so we have enough food. For those coming, here are some details for the weekend schedule. Saturday night we're going to the Karl Strauss Brewery in Carlsbad for drinks/dinner for anyone that is out of town that wants to come. We have no idea who is coming to this, but we will be there in the bar at 6:00PM wearing American Sport Bike T shirts, and we'll get them to find us a dinner table for 7:30 or so for whoever shows. Be there if you can. Sunday there are three groups meeting for the BBQ pre-Ride that I'm aware of. Each group is meeting at the locations below at 8:00, kickstands up at 8:30, please have a full tank when you arrive there. All pre-rides converge at American Sport Bike at 2:00PM, here: http://local.google.com/maps?q=1341+Distribution+Way,+Vista+CA+92081&spn=0.02611 2,0.040199&hl=en San Diego: Meet at Biggs San Marcos, Ride leader is Tom Reiner (on his new Ulysses that we're picking up today!), cell phone number is 760-809-0889 http://local.google.com/maps?q=717+Center+Dr,+San+Marcos,+CA++92069&spn=0.026117 ,0.040199&hl=en Current plan for this ride is Couser Canyon to 76 to Palomar mountain to Mesa Grande, and depending on how large/fast the group is going, the Cuymaca lake loop. Orange County: Meet at Knollwoods restaraunt at the NW corner of Imperial Hwy and La Palma Avenue. Ride Leader is Eric Barrows. I don't know his route, he'll fill you in there. His cell phone is 714-936-4823. http://local.google.com/maps?q=Imperial+Avenue+and+La+Palma,+Yorba+Linda,+CA&spn =0.025899,0.040199&hl=en LA: Meet at Glendale HD/Buell. Ride leader is Chris Matty, he'll be on the Glendale demo Ulysses (but don't worry, he won't lead you down dirt roads!). The exact route is still TBD, Just show up there, the plan will converge. http://local.google.com/maps?q=3717+San+Fernando+Rd,+Glendale,+CA+91204&spn=0.02 5819,0.040199&hl=en Anyone that wants to come to American Sport Bike directly much earlier is welcome, but if you get here too early, we'll put you to work setting up chairs and shade awnings and such. Last year we tortured Chris Hoff (barknbite) with the shade awning from hell, so if you're the first here, be prepared for a challenge . Hope ya'll can come, it'll be a great day!!! Al and Joanne and Co., we wish we could be there, but between cramming for FBRAT, and traffic school tomorrow (busting the YELLOW-YELLOW riding home from LAST year's Laguna has FINALLY caught up to me), it just ain't in the cards. y'all have fun and be safe. FB&D |

Just got a 20k mile service and new front and rear tires done at Simi Valley HD/Buell – very pleased with the people there and the work. Wayne and Gabi at the service desk are both friendly and actually call when they say they will to let you know about the status of the work. Dennis (mechanic who worked on my bike) and Paul (had to get some items for the service from Glendale HD/Buell and Simi Valley Cycles) were both very cool guys. I called after agreeing to the tire purchase and installation price they quoted to let them know I had already purchased a new rear rotor, to see if they could install it since the rear wheel was coming off. Dennis installed it without any additional labor charges. Just thought I’d post my positive experience this week since I’ve had nothing nice to say about both Ventura and Simi dealerships in the past. |

Looks like it might be coming from the primary cover actually, but I don't know if it's seeping from where the case splits, and making it's way down to the bottom of the primary cover and dripping from there. Isn't there a newfangled primary cover gasket that's supposed to put an end to these leaks? Al - I'm going to make it to the BBQ one of these days - been wanting to for the last 3 years. Our second child is due in March, so I don't know if I'll make it in '06 either! Tentative for '07 though!!! |

Socal, Do the right thing. Call the Service Manager and politely explain what happened after they worked on your bike. He(she?), if it's a standup dealership, should immediately offer to right whatever is wrong. If not, well, come back here and tell us. |

This is for anybody that was in the group riding from Glendale HD to the American Sport Bike bbq on Aug 28. I just got a "Notice of Toll Evasion" on the toll road that Matty was nice enough to pay for everybody to go through, or did he.... Anybody else get one of these? Hope this doesn't end up costing me 43.50. Damn government. |

Cleaned up the front of the cases and areas around the primary cover that seemed like they might have been leaking after my last post (Aug. 30th) - have been on 4 or 5 rides since and so far no leak. I wonder if it was due to the oily mess that was left on my bike after the dealership's fluid changes. I don't know what the protocol is for dealership service regarding cleaning the motorcycle once the service is completed, but there were oily and greasy finger and handprints EVERYWHERE. Pipes, tank, tail section, fly screen, intake, cam cover, shock, muffler, front and rear wheels, and both foot pegs and shifter/brake linkage looked like they weren't chrome anymore due to being completely covered. My ride is no show queen - but I do keep it pretty damn clean. Usually the only areas I don't keep up on are where the "case-split-seepage blues" exist, and directly on the bottom of the shock, muffler and swing arm. Needless to say it came back looking nothing like it did when I left it there. How do your guys' bikes look after service? Which dealership? Thanks, Anthony |

Can anyone recommend a stand up dealership in the San Diego area? May need some warranty work done in the near future and dont want to get bent over. That always seems to happen but what really hurts is when they dont even have the courtesy to use the vaseline. Thanks. John |

Today, the first weekend of October, marks the first year that the SongDog Rally is officially closed because of land use violations imposed by Santa Barbara County officials. These rallies were always held on the first weekends in May and October. Did you know that the SongDog has been doing this Rally thing for 30 years now? Jen & I have always looked forward to attending these campouts not only for the chance to get away from the big city for a day or two but to savor the luscious tri-tips, chicken and turkey country style meals they offered. That and the chance to sit around a campfire, chatting with fellow bikers, enjoying live music from the eclectic bands that often played there, and generally taking it easy, always seemed a good reason to go for a ride there. All that is history now though, thanks to big brother. But all is not lost; there is hope for the SongDog. Per their website: "Commercially, " The Ranch" is closed, But that does not mean that family members are not welcome to visit us here at our family ranch. Members of the SongDog family rallys an reunions, now 30 years old, are welcome to "spend time" here just as they have before. We will not be asking payment for any services rended. And, as always, any services will be rendered when whim and fancy strike!" Anybody up for a day ride to the SongDog for a souvenir (key fob, mug, T-shirt, cap) or a cold one or just the fresh air? How about chiming in if you've been there before OR if you've never heard of the place and its history? D&J |
