Sorry I missed you guys today, I had an event this morning that took longer than planned. I drove straight to Shelton's and got there around 1:45pm and one of the salesmen told me you guys had already left. Hopefully I'll catch up with you guys next time. |

Spike, Sorry we missed you. I had this strange feeling when we were eating at the Chinese Buffet...and then my fortune inside my fortune cookie said 'That wasn't chicken.". Seriously though, I am really sorry we missed you as I enjoy the times we've had riding and talking about Buell's. Huricane Ophelia, Will you get it over with already? Or else show up early enough tomorrow so that I can have the day off and have a Hurricane Party? Oh well, hopefully I won't get too wet riding to work in the morning. More on a Buell note: My parts arrived at the dealership today!!! (Yeah) In Kenosha, Wisconsin... (Boo) But they will be shipped to me... (Yeah) But that will take some time too... (Boo) My parts arrived at the dealership today!!! (Yeah) If you caught my musical reference above, you need about as much help as I do... 1313 |

Oh well, hopefully I won't get too wet riding to work in the morning. I guess I shouldn't have been concerned about my morning ride as it was my evening ride home (~ 5:45) that soaked me. I wonder what my morning ride will be like tomorrow... 1313 |

Brankin, If you see an old women riding a bike with a dog in the basket..., turn around! Spike, man, sorry we missed you. We had a good time riding pretty much all day. After the meeting in Goldsboro with John Martindale, Dave and I returned back to my house, picked up the wives and road to Greenville for dinner. Really a good day riding. A few points to cover from the meeting. 1. We decided to move forward with the design that David Lassiter turned in. I have to see if we can find a local supplier for the patch, but I have found suppliers for magnets, stickers and T-shirts. 2. We want to develop an event calendar for C3. We would like to set up a big ride at least once a quarter. Dave, the wives and myself are going to develop the calendar, but we want to set up a page inside this one that will be linked so you can see it over time from the opening C3 page. 3. We want to develop pamphlets and poster board presentation for C3 for Shelton's Smithfield and Goldsboro stores that they can use with their Buell displays. We want to get the word out about the BRAG group here out east so we can find other Buellers around here. 4. We made a working point to get John Martindale out riding. He seems to work every weekend and stated that he had not been out riding for some time. Dave succeeded in getting John on Monday afternoon, then rescued me from work and we had a great afternoon riding the local roads. Another C3 success! 5. We discussed photograph duties for the up coming National BRAG event in Maryland. We will have three members going (including Kristi) so we will get pictures of the C3's contingent. Jim Nance, Kristi and I will ride up together but Brankin, our unofficial photographer will not be coming, so we are going to put Kristi to work. We will report back after the event. 6. We discussed the nasty words "F.R." We have made a commitment to stays as a riders group, but we are starting to find reasons for the need or money. We started to discuss fund raisers so we could pay for the presentation and pamphlets, patches, sticker, t-shirts and more importantly, Battle Tracks. We are open to ideas on raising money for events that we would like to do out east. We have a few ideas but we are open for more. Footnote: Gramps we ran into the guy that bought your S1. He is a HD guy that has always wanted a Buell but did not want to purchase a new bike without knowing if he would like it. He fell in love with the S1. As he put it, "it's great riding around and not having to slow down for the curves." He said he wants to ride with us so we may have found a new member. |

If the group doesn't want to use the vendor who supplied us with the final design and quotes, we need to contact them and let them know. I told them the group would be making a decision this month and that we would get back with them and let them know something. If the group wants a local vendor and not this one, then we need to notify them that we won't be needing their services, sooner, preferably than later. |

David, Don't cut them loose just yet. I just want to see if we can find a local supplier to compare pricing. One question, I have found around here that some patch makers charge a set up fee. I do not see that with this supplier. That is a plus. We are going to see what we can find and by next week and get back with the group. I would love to have the stickers by the time we go to Lavale so we can display who we are. |

If you didn't see the post in the NC section- Ray Price now has a Ulysses. It's orange, and I'm surprised to say that I really like the color. It really makes the bodywork stand out on the black/gray of the rest of the bike. The funny part is that I went up there wearing my black/gray leathers and a yellowish-orange Buell shirt. I had at least half a dozen people stop and asked if I wore that just so I could match the bike. The bike was drawing a small crowd the entire time I was there. This bike has excited a lot of people, many of which wouldn't normally be looking at Buells. Mike L. '04 XB12R |

Hey Guys.Just a really short note. I was involved in a auto accident and totaled my "67" mustang Wed. afternoon. A van made a left turn in front of me. The driver is ok. I have been in the hospital the last few days. I have a broken right heal and my face went through the old type wood and steel steering wheel breaking my nose. I have cuts and busies all over and not really able to sit up or use crutches much right now. Looks like my heal and foot will heal in about 8 weeks without an operation but now the swelling of my face is going down and I have a appointment with my face doctor later this week.I'm thinking maybe he could have me looking like a young Mel Gibson. What do you think? Anyway I'll make it but am really sore. With a broken heal the two things I enjoy ridding and playing hockey are out for some time. Boy do I enjoy ridding in the fall and will really miss it. It was a really hard hit and I know I was very lucky. Guess God and my father were looking out for me on this one. Have a great fall ride for me guys- John "Gramps" |

Yesterday was fun. I wrote this last night: ----------- Since yesterday morning I think I have put about 600 miles on my Blast. My bike looks like I rode it through a pig sty and then spayed it with oil for good measure. I thought it might be time to send out a letter :-) I'm in Asheville, NC. My sole obligation this weekend is to attend a formal dinner tonight. I rode the Blast up yesterday (250 miles). I was a bit worried about the distance, but I did fine. Having a bag on the back of the bike gives a little back support which helps. I also made it a point to stop a lot, which lets me enjoy the ride rather than endure it. I stopped for gas in Statesville, and I was wearing my Harley jacket. When I was paying, the woman who rang me up looks at me and says "Thats not a Harley." I replied that Harley actually did make it, at which she asked "Is it a Buell?" I was impressed. I asked her if she rode, and she told me she rides on the back of her boyfriends bike. She had just done her first poker run, and had won the prize, so she was excited about them now. It started to rain shortly after that. I saw a bridge comming up, so I pulled under it to put my rain suit on. There was a guy on a Honda under there doing the same thing. He was from Charlotte, heading into Tennessee. I got into Asheville at about 2:00 and had lunch with my mom. We went over to her boyfriends house and I let him take my Blast for a ride. He used to have his own bike, but hasn't owned one recently. I think he liked it because he was gone a long time :-) After I left his house, I went for a ride on the parkway. I was supprised that I wanted to, but I had a good time. Last night I decided that todays journy was going to be to the Shady Valley Country Store. It's a little place up in Tennessee on some incredably twisty mountain roads. It was on the route of the BRAG ride I did last year, and I wanted to revisit some of those roads. I planned the routes and it was right under 100 miles (one way). I left this morning before 8:00 am. It was cold and foggy which was kind of disapointing. I took I-26 up into TN, tword Johnson City. As soon as I got into TN, the fog cleared and it was beautiful. I-26 is a lot like the Blue Ridge parkway, except you can go 65. It runs through a lot of undeveloped mountain land. The scenery was beautiful, particulary the way the valleys still had fog in them. The Blast did well. It would pull me up 3000 ft mountains at 65 mph. After I got to Johnson City, I turned onto hw 321. For those of you with me at Running The Ridge last year, this was the road with the lake where we saw the Helicopter land. I loved this road then, and it was fun to be back on it. It is a very twisty road, but designed for high speed travel at the same time. It has long sweeping turns where you can just lay the bike over and keep it there. The last time I was on this road, I had 10 weeks of experience. Now I have a little over a year. It makes a world of difference. 321 would have taken me into Boone if I had stayed on it, but I forked off onto hw 67. This wasn't a particulary twisty road, but it ran through some very beautiful pieces of countryside, and took me up to Mountain City, TN. In Mountain City, I picked up hw 421. This is the road I had been looking for. It's been compared to Deals Gap, but it's only about 2/3 the length. When I turned onto it, there was a big yellow sign: "WARNING Switchbacks next 22 miles. Truckers consider alternate routes" The speed limit is 35 mpg, but recomended speed for most of the turns is 15 or 20 mpg. I was running about 30 most of the time. They were very tight turns. A lot of times my boots would rub the pavement as I was going around them. For some reason, there was very little traffic. I think I might have passed 2 cars comming the other way and no one was behind me. I drove about 8 miles down the road. I was proud of myself, because I could remember riding this last year, and the difference is pretty amazing. I come up on this turn, and I pull over to the double yellow so I can see around it. All of a sudden I realize that its not a turn, its a switchback and something in my head says "You're going too fast to make this." I straightened up the bike and got on the brakes. The rear tire locked up and the back started fishtailing. I remember thinking "I am NOT going to drop this bike." And I didn't. I got it stopped pretty quickly but of course I was in the opposing lane. I hate that. If there had been traffic, I would have gotten hit. I'm just lucky, and I much prefer to operate on skill rather than luck. But I am very glad I didn't drop it. A couple of miles later, I got to the store: http://www.shadyvalleycountrystore.com/country_store_001.htm I had a BBQ sandwich and bought a T shirt. The people who run the place cater to people who want to ride up 421. There were a few bikes outside and several came and went while I was there. BMWs, Harleys, and Yamahas are what I remember seeing. When I left, I took hw 91 back to Johnson City. It is also a twisty road, but not nearly to the extent of 421. It was nice to have a fun road to ride on, that I could enjoy w/o going to fast, or have to think about too much. After I got to Johnson City, I took I-26 back to Asheville, the same route as I had come up on. Well, it's time to get ready for my dinner. Hope you all have a great evening! |

Hi Greg - You've a message from me on your cell. I was trying to figure out if you were around as I was comming back home today. I'd love to ride it again some time. I'll give you a call when I do. BTW, I almost went to Deals Gap yesterday. I actually made it to the parking lot with my helmet when I decided I wasnt up to it. Good thing too. I'm not sure I could have made it back home on those tires if I had done a gap run. My clutch also starts to slip if you just put pressure on the leaver. I assume thats just an adjustment issue? |

Jim, Great tale. Brankin and I went to Shady Valley just a few weeks ago when we went to my father-in-laws. Gramps, I'm glad you are okay. It could be worst but I am sorry to here about the stang, I know you enjoyed it. By the way, I do not know if you saw that we met the guy that bought your S1. We met him at Shelton's in Goldsboro. He said he wants to ride with us, so you may get to see your old bike. |

Gramps, Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you heal quickly. As an afficianado of classic US steel I am sorry to hear of the Stangs demise, but vehicles can be replaced (just try telling me that about S2 #1313...), and people can't. Jim, The major reason I went with Carlos to Pete's place in Virginia (contrary to Carlos's beliefs of me being his personal ride along Buell technician ) was to experience 421 again as I, too, had done it at Running the Ridge. Unfortunately for us we had wet conditions, but fortunately for you there was great weather. As can be seen in the pictures I posted after our weekend adventure, there is plenty of room for camping at Pete's place once the cabin fills up. Great riding abounds and with better weather the entire ride we did that Saturday would be one hell of a hoot. Maybe we could convince BRAG to put on an Adventure based at Pete's place? Maybe I am a little too enthusiastic about it... Oldog, I haven't heard from you lately. Sent an E-mail yesterday - it bounced back. Sent a PM tonight to follow up. What's up? I called Ray Price H-D/Buell today to get my name on the list for attendees for their Buell reception on September 30th. Not done to be a traitor to Shelton's, as it is over twice as far for me to go to Raleigh as Goldsboro, but to meet other Buell owners that are (relatively) close to me. I was a little disappointed to hear that there were only about a dozen people signed up...I wanted to be # 13, is all...I wonder if they considered the fact that the Fall Rally in Myrtle Beach is that weekend. It could affect my 'plans' to attend the Fall Rally with a co-worker. If I don't make it to the Fall Rally this year, hopefully the posers will have moved on to the next latest thing when I do make it down there. Actually, if we could just figure out what those idiots (posers) will be 'discovering' next we could set ourselves up for imminent wealth... 1313 |

Thanks guys. I got out of the hospital Friday night. Been laying here at home fighting a 101 temp and taking lots of pain pills. They said that is common with broken bones. Go in to see the Dr. about my heal/foot tomorrow then I see my face Dr. Fri. I liked my old mustang but it tried to kill me. From now on it's big cars with lots of air bags that are made to fall apart when hit. Funny, my motorcycles over the years are the only things I haven't been hurt on in my life. Glad he enjoys my old bike. I have some papers on it if he would like them. Shows a dyno run and some of the things that were added. Have no idea when I'll be able to ride again and for that matter when I'll be able to stand up to pee!!! You all enjoy this time of year.-John |

Gramps, man that sucks! Thankfully time heals most wounds, just the time in between is rough. That's a shame about your 'Stang. I'm thankful that Brankin accepts payment in beer in food, I always worry that he's going to raise the price to cigarettes and I'd have to let him go. I know that Shady Valley and US 421 have become one of my favorite places to go. Pauletta and I rode out that way earlier this year and had a great time. Probably me more than her. On 421, I'd ride off and leave her, pull off to the side, wait, listen for the chugging of her Sporty, ride off in a tear again, repeat. Stopped at the store, bought the shirt, the sticker, the map, and a half a dozen cookies from girl scouts out front. Like usual though, rolled in as the only Buell so I got the "three head" looks from everyone. Though a little later, an XB12R rolled in with three other bikes. |

Hey Boys and Girls, Just got an E-mail from John Martindale @ Shelton's... The Ulysses has come in and is on the floor! If you haven't seen one up close yet here's your chance. Come on by to see and climb on. If I hadn't volunteered to pour beer at the Crystal Coast Bike Fest (in order to gain free admission) I would be headed there today. Depending on my condition after the event is over today I may head that way. Carlos, If I don't end up making it today is there any possibility of including a stop at Shelton's in the Sunday ride you spoke of on the phone last night? I gotta see/sit on/experience (static) what the Ulysses is like. Plus Court said he wanted to see a pic of me sitting on one trying to reach terra firma. 1313 |

Hey guys. new to the area. Met Larry at a gas station a couple weeks ago and he gave me this website. I'm pretty new to buells and motorcycles in general. I have a 2005 XB12R and have been having some issues with 4th and 5th gear. If the bike is warm it seems like the clutch floats. when I shift in to these gears. Moved from florida and don't have a car yet so I haven't been able to take it in yet. if anyone has any ideas that would be great. thanks Tyler |
