Question, How many users of this site are from Lower Mainland of B.C.? I'm looking for some people to ride with if I can manage to get my bike insured. I thought I had it all lined up for Spring but then the family vehicle tranny decided to take a holiday and the air conditioner packed it in. Somethings working against me this year. |

F---ING WOW!!!!!!! Had my first demo on a XB!!Downtown said i could have a demo and how could i resist. I never thought i could like a bike after only a 20 mile ride, but i have got to have one. The handling was just amazing, sooo light and sharp. The only thing is the lack of power, but thats what the aftermarket is for. After 18k miles in 18 months on a 97 S1 it's time for a second BUELL!! |

Hi Ya'll -- back from Disney. Man, I sure wish I was on my bike for that ride. Endless twisties and the best damn blace to ride I've ever seen, Yosemite Nat'l park. We put about 3000 miles on the Passat (the most fun I've had on 4 wheels has been in that car) but even dooing 100mph through the 50 mph turns, it just made me miss my bike even more Ray, here is my 2 cents on the gear oil stuff. I've been using Redline ShockProof TM Gear Oil (Heavy) and did notice a big difference, for the better, in my shifting when I switched to it. Here are some specs and pics ShockProofTM Gear Oil has a 40% lower coefficient of friction and 250% the load-carrying capacity compared to conventional gear oils, which means that metal- to-metal friction is greatly reduced. Temperature reductions between 25°F - 75°F are common in circle track, road racing, and off-road racing. Improved durability in high-performance use is the primary benefit of the Heavy ShockProofTM and along with the improved durability is an improvement in efficiency, but if further improvements in efficiency are desired, and durability is not a major concern, LightWeight and SuperLight ShockProof TM can be used. The cushioning effect of the ShockProofTM chemistry allows the use of one of the lighter viscosities in many performance applications with little sacrifice in durability. Red Line ShockProofTM can be used in conventional, limited- slip, or locker differentials. Red Line ShockProofTM is designed for use in competition differentials and transmissions. The above graphs display the unique performance characteristics of the Red Line ShockProofTM chemistry. The wear is one-tenth that of a petroleum product at moderate loads, the coefficient of friction is nearly half. The most significant improvement comes with the ability to operate in extreme pressure regions with nearly three-times the load which can be handled with a conventional petroleum gear oil and the wear obtained is significantly lower at all pressures. Note how the Red Line Synthetic 75W90 Gear Oil is a significant improvement to the petroleum gear lubricants (most other synthetics are not significantly better than their petroleum counter-parts.) All ShockProofTM viscosity grades will provide similar metal-on-metal load-carrying capabilities, the higher viscosities will resist squeeze out better than the lower viscosities. \Greatest extreme-pressure protection Lowest coefficient of friction available Reduces temperatures dramatically Provides thicker oil films between gear teeth Completely resists throw-off Reduces metal-to-metal contact Compatible with petroleums and synthetics Low fluid friction to improve power transfer Provides gear teeth shock loading protection Reduces gear noise and has little odor{ Hope that helped! Ray, Just found it online cheaper than what I was paying Click here and click on shockproof in the menu up top of the page that pops up. I need to change mine out so if you have plans on getting oil in case of future roadside drainage, let me know and we can split the shipping Dan |

Thanks, Ricky. That's what I keep telling myself. I've been a sub-assy mech. at BOEING in a past life. I CAN follow directions. The Buell maint. manuel leaves something to be desired. Like some more 'if everything dosen't go like it's s'posed to' DETAILS! I've had it together and apart and together and apart but SOMETHING is still not quite right. I get 'throttle position, air temp., and fuell pump' error codes. Plus I have not got the experience to diagnose where this un-nerving sound is getting the nerve to come from. BOB heard it too...I took it apart agin and/but can not tell where it originates. Sort of a " chuff, chuff" sound half as often as the tappets ticking. Means it's only happenin' on one side, intake or exhaust, right? I sooo need the mental balance riding brings me. An escape with no hang-over. An addiction I can live with. My ex-boss completly lied to un-employment so my claim has been DENIED! Just got the letter today. It's been seven weeks. The appeal takes about another seven...boohoohoo sorry for the non-bike related whining How cenetred in the covers are the push rods s'possed to be? The intake rod is very much not cenetred. Dosen't look like it touches the cover as it passes through the head, but it IS close. damn, damn, damn... GALEN |

Galen - have you tried just running it for about 10 minutes or so? Sounds like maybe you have a rocker arm that is a bit dry on the shaft. I have covered them in assembly lube only to have them make noise on initial start up, until they get some oil flow - I think regular oil may work better than assembly lube here. I don't know about the pushrods being centered in their tubes, seems as long as the tube is in the right place - not leaking - and the rod ends are in their little pockets that all should be well. If the the push rods come out again roll them on a sheet of glass, maybe they are bent. |
