Spike, did you ever go to one... Quite addicting. Especially near a college campus! "So that's what young and foolish looks like." |

Go man, go! I think I hear Brankin packing the saddlebags and I also think I hear Carlos pleading. Wish I could go but no way. Pictures, we'll want pictures! |

Charlie, Never actually been to a hash myself. Dave, I'm starting to really consider going. The wife approves of me riding down for the weekend, but she's really not keen on me riding the ~1000+ miles alone. If I'm going to get away with it I'll need an accomplice. Also, I may need to be back by 6pm on Sunday the 13th, which would require leaving Daytona around the buttcrack of dawn. If I can find someone who's up for a ride like that I can go. Mike |

Hey Spike, I got the Mott's! Let's do it! When were you thinking of leaving? I haven't investigated the possibility of taking Friday the 11th off work yet, but I don't see it as being a problem if it is needed. Kick arse, 1313 |

Kristi just ordered the Ventura bag for the M2. I should have it on time and I have the time to go. I need to get it put on, and I still need a rear brake light switch. So Brankin, you know where I can find one? So, I guess I'm in. |

Brankin, I'm working on Thursday the 10th, so my plan was to leave on Friday. Earlier is better, gives us more time to play in Daytona. My main motivation for going is to watch the races on Saturday, but I haven't found out if you can just buy tickets at the gate. I had figured we'd ride back on Sunday, but I don't need to work on Monday, so we could ride back then if necessary. It's worth noting that I haven't taken the Firebolt on a trip this long before, so I'm not sure what to expect. I rode my M2 to Daytona and back in '02, but the XB isn't quite as comfortable as the M2. I'm starting to wish I hadn't sold those saddlebags for my XB Mike L. |

Spike, I've got some Joe Rocket Sportbags I'm not using anymore if you would like to use them. Before I got the Ventura rack system I had these mounted on my lighting. While not perfect, I could carry a lot of gear on them. Mike. |

Rubberdown, I might have to take you up on that. I was thinking of just strapping a small bag to the passenger seat, but real saddlebags would be nicer to have. By the way, are you coming to Daytona with us? Mike (Message edited by spike on February 26, 2005) |

Hey fellas, how's it going? I've been going non-stop since I got here, thought I'd take a small break to pop in. Hopefully in a month or so things will calm down and I'll have more time to check in and post a pic or two. Good to see things are going okay. I'm going to see if I can find myself a motorcycle here. I saw someone riding at one of the other camps. I took a pic of the bike and I'll post it. It ain't no Buell, but it has two wheels. Well gotta run, ya'll carve a few corners for me, stay safe. |

Southern, Good to hear from you. Can't wait to see some pics. So what if it ain't a Buell - if it's got 2 wheels, ride it. Carlos, I made the handoff to Dave at Shelton's today. I was lucky enough to unearth an unused one, so you should be set. Spike, I will be submitting for a vacation day for Friday the 11th at work tomorrow, but I don't foresee any problems. I am hoping that I will be able to nurse my rear tire to make the entire trip, but will definitely need one when we get back. The trip to Daytona should be a good test to find out your limits on the XB. I'm sure whoever goes will be considerate of it being your first long trip on it. 1313 |

Spike, I've got festivities planned for Daytona as posted above so I won't be making the trip. Let me know if you want the bags and we'll figure out how to get you and the bags together. I'm about an 1.25 hours from you. I can always ship the UPS if you let me know with enough time. Mike. |

1313, I know what you mean about the rear tire. I'm running the Sportec M1s and my rear is just getting to the wear bars. I'm certain I'll need a new one as soon as we get back. I was considering picking up one of those plug kits with the CO2 inflater for the trip just in case. About the XB comfort, I have a set of lightning pegs around here somewhere along with one of those inflatable air seat pads. I'm sure I'll still get uncomfortable on the trip, but I should be able to manage. Also, I mentioned earlier that I might have to be back by 6pm on Sunday, but I found out tonight that I don't need to be back then. I don't want to get back too late, but at least we don't have to leave first thing in the morning if we don't feel like it. Did you want to start looking into hotels now or do you want to just wing it? Mike, I'll take the bags. I don't know if I'll be down that way anytime soon, so UPS might be the easiest method. So, is it just the three of us? No one else want to join us? Brankin, Mike, we need to make plans then. I am short on vacation time because of future trips already planned. I can put in for Friday the 11th, and we can ride that day, but I will need to make it back on Sunday the 13th. Mike, have you found out anything about the tickets & lodging? Has anyone thought of camping? Tickets for the grandstand are $40, or an "Alternative" site for $25. Tickets are still available and can be reserved on Daytona's website. I have found a campground with cabins in Daytona. I do not know if they are available. Tent sites are $18, cheapest Cabin is $55. Let me know what you think. I am not opposed to Hotels and still researching alternative. |

Damn! A buddy of mine has a place I can stay - from the 5th through the 10th! I'm still waiting to hear back from another Back Home Bueller about his plans for Daytona - he may be offer some good info on finding a place. The cabins sound cool, but I would be shocked as hell if any were still available. I guess I would even be up for breaking out the burrito tent again (the only tent I have that fits inside the saddlebags of my S2) a 1 person hiking tent, however a motel may be a good investment on our banzai run. I guess that means I'm easy. Thank God that someone is thinking about this type of stuff! I guess I just have target fixation. I looked at mapquest a couple of days ago and the route from New Bern was to go up 70 almost to Raleigh to catch I-95 and go South. It sounds absurd to me to go the 2-2&1/2 hours to Raleigh just to go South on 95. There's got to be a better way! And tomorrow night I plan to find it! 1313 |

From Grifton, and I believe from New Bern too, the way to go is down NC-55 out of Kinston to Newtons Grove to NC-13 to I-95. It pops out just north of Fayetteville. It takes about 1.5 hours from Kinston to Fayetteville that way. Brankin, you could shoot down US-17 to Wilmington to US-74 to Florence SC. I believe you will take more time though because of all the traffic and towns that way. I would have to buy a tent if we camp because the tent I have now would be too big to carry on the bike. I saw one at Target that folded up was about 18" in diameter by 36" long. It was a two-four(?) man tent. With the rack, I could easily bungee it to the bike. |

I'd much prefer a motel/cabin if we can find one. Camping just adds extra time/work onto our last-minute rush down and rush back trip. Also, it'd be nice to have a motel room to leave the extra gear in during the day on Saturday. I still have some friends in Orlando, I could probably get one of them to let us crash there if needed. 10 days . . . Mike |

Hey guys. Sorry for being quiet but been busy. With a good portion of the club going to Daytona for the 200, We're going to move the BRAG meeting to Sunday the 20th at 4 PM at Shelton's Goldsboro. Hope to see some new members. Think about some of your favorite local ride routes to share. I should have some form of a road log book by the meeting. For those of you going to Daytona, have fun, and create some good tales! Don't forget pictures for our BRAG photo album. Dave |

Unless something big comes up, I'm definitely in. I got fork fluid changed on Friday, the Techlusion TFi installed tonight, and plan on changing the engine oil and transmission fluid tomorrow. I also need to monkey around with mounting the bags that Mike W. loaned me. Other than that I'm set to go. I talked to my friend in Lake Mary, we're clear to stay at her house for the weekend. There's a bed, a couch, and plenty of floor space. I'll email you guys when I get directions to her place. All we need to do now is nail down the meeting place and time. Also, is anyone bringing a tire repair kit? I've got some of the el-cheapo vulcanizing plug strips, but I thought it would be nice to have one of those Co2 inflaters just in case. 6 days . . . Spike, SWEET! I guess we can forget about the option I E-mailed you and Carlos about this morning. I guess I will have to locate an air mattress (I know I have at least one here) before our departure. Carlos and I will be meeting at our 'normal' meeting point in Kinston, and I am assuming that we will meet up with you at some exit off I-95 near Fayetteville. We will have to finalize the details, but we can do that through our E-mail's. Jlnance, Congrats on the M2 purchase (caught the info about it on another thread)! Good to see that you enjoyed the 'challenges' involved in bringing her home. Can't wait to check it out the next time our orbits coincide (whether that be at Michael's some Sunday or at a BRAG meeting at Shelton's). Any plans for mods yet? 1313 |

1313 - Thanks! No mod plans yet. Well at least not for the bike. I might have to do some mods to myself. I need to go find a parking lot where I can get good at stopping the bike. Making it go doesn't seem to be much of a problem :-) When is the next Michaels/BRAG meeting? |

I got the bags mounted and the oil changed, but I noticed there's a little fluid seepage from one of my forks. I'm hoping it's just a little excess fluid that was trapped behind the dust seal when the fluid was changed on Friday, I'll have to keep an eye on it. If it continues to leak I'll probably just zip tie a rag around the bottom of the fork leg and fix it when I get back. It's the left fork, so there's no danger of the fluid getting onto the front brake. Worst case I'll end up making the trip with one under-dampened fork. Other than that I'm almost ready to roll. Thanks to my ~60lb "puppy" I'll need to pick up a new cell phone charger, and I'd like to pick up one of those Co2 inflaters. By the way- did you guys decide on a time to meet yet? Hi Mike, Brankin, Dave acompany rode today in the area. I was talking to Brankin and if we meet in our normal spot or he stays over here Thursday night, we should be able to meet around 9am at I-95 and US-13. Exit 58 on I-95. That is one exit north of the Bus-95 exit going to Fayetteville off of I-95. Does that sound okay to everybody? It will take between 1 to 1.5 hours to get there from Kinston. I do not know what is in the area, but I have both of your cell phone numbers programmed in my cell phone so if need be, we can get there and see what gas stations are there. Brankin, the green blob is close, but my eyes were much more open. The equation below is a better representation. + = |

Congrats Jim, By the sound of it, you have found out that an M2 does great stoppies. Even when you don't mean to. Don't worry, you will get use to it quickly, then if you ride another bike later be careful. Same brake lever pressure on most other bikes will only slow the bike down. I have to remember every time I ride the Nighthawk. I can't wait for us to go riding. |

Congratulations Jim! The M-2 is one hell of a machine. Did/are you getting rid of the Blast!? Due to the pending trip to Daytona, the next BRAG chapter meeting will be on the 20th, 4 PM at the dealership in Goldsboro. Michael's can happen anytime. Dave |

Hey Dave, Thanks! No, I'm keeping the Blast. My motivation for getting the M2 was that I wanted to be able to put the gf on the back. But she also wants to learn how to ride herself, so if I keep the Blast we can go riding together. Besides, while the M2 will definitly leave the Blast in the dust, the Blast has its own attractions. |

Today is my last day of working at Ray Price HD/Buell. In the past year I've gotten married and bought a new house, so I've realized it's time to start planning ahead. On Monday I start my new job at Positrak, a computer company that develops inventory tracking systems for auto parts stores. The new job doesn't involve motorcycles, but it does offer dramatically better growth potential and weekends off. That means I'll be looking to do a lot more weekend rides. The good news is that I'm leaving Ray Price on good terms, so hopefully I'll be able to retain some of the dealer perks. Mike Luddy, Jr. '04 XB12R |
