Probably next weekend or so I'll be cracking open one of the primary covers for a check and change of lube and stuff. Will be open for a ride after that if all checks out well. Is it possible to peek and see the stator wire condition under the clamp without removing the chain and sprocket? Just want to check what condition its condition is in while I'm in there checking the shoe and pawl and such. |

I forwarded your message off to Chris. He should be able to answer it I'm guessing. He just had his S1 apart. |

Thanks, bummer, but thanks. Was hoping a small mirror and large flashlight would enable peeking in for checking the wire insulation condition. I'll have to decide how far I want to open it up once I get into it. Let's see, how does this go now????? Open the primary to inspect the tensioner. Update the tensioner anyway since it's opened. Check the shifter pawl. Remove the clutch basket and check the clutch plates. Remove the primary sprocket to check the stator wiring. Replace the main seal and check the big nut on the crankshaft. Maybe replace the stator just to be safe and keep the old one for a midnight roadside spare should anyone need one in the upcoming months. Slip out the tranny to check gear wear and 5th gear bearing condition. Open up the cam cover to better check the 5th gear bearing and oil pump drive gear. Realize I didn't have to remove the cam cover to get to the front pulley on the final drive. Remove the gas tank and open up the rockers to enable getting the cam cover back on. Slip in a new set of cams. Install XB rocker covers. Remove the swingarm and check/replace bearings and add a grease zert. Check/update the rear wheel bearings. Remove the front wheel and check/replace those wheel bearings while I'm thinking about it. Remove the front fork and trees to check the steering head bearings. yada yada yada Realize the bike is now about 90% disassembled and the wallet is 120% empty so set about formulating a plan to putting it all back together again. Starting thinking about painting the plastic since it's all apart anyway. Slap forehead then review the updated reformulated divergent plan. Sometimes bicycles are so much simpler. |

CJ didn't seem to find the humor in the above pic. In any case, we did end up having a wonderful ride around Milwaukee. I have a couple of pics, but don't know if CJ wants me to post 'em, helmet hair and all You should have seen the looks by the Harley "instabikers" when 4 Buells pulled in to Hal's parking lot Anybody know of a decent chrome plater in the area? |

As Steve said, Meeting THURSDAY! Also, the IMS show in Rosemont starts on Friday!!!! I know that Steve, Ron and Bernie and I are planning on going. I have 2 people riding with me that are a definate; and 2 more that are a maybe. The plan so far is to meet at the State Fair parking lot near the Petite Center at about 2 p.m. Departing no later than 2:30! If we don't know that you are coming, we probably won't wait. My plan is to get to the show by 4 p.m. when it opens. The people riding with me want to check out everything as do I. We may be at the show until close to closing (9 p.m.). We were thinking about hitting the Hooters near by the show for some food after we leave the show, whenever that will be. edit: I plan on buying my tickets online prior to leaving Milwaukee. So who is coming????? (Message edited by kinger on February 09, 2005) |

For those going to the IMS this weekend: There is a free shuttle from the Rosement El Station located on River Road. Parking there is only a few dollars as it is a commuter lot. To get there, take the I-190 West exit towards O'Hare. Then exit Manheim Rd South. Once on Manheim you can exit to I-190 East to Chicago. Take the River Road South exit. Turn right at the bottom of the ramp and immediately get over to the left lane. Just in case someone wants to save a few bucks on parking! |

We got back from IMS just fine, after a detour thru O'hare Trip was GREAT on the way down. Went thru the smokey mountains. Just a beautiful drive! Got down there on Saturday afternoon, picked up the bike, and DOUBLED the mileage on the thing on the way to the hotel. It only had 26 KM on the odometer! Figured we'd get a ride in on Sunday morning. But unfortunately, it was cold and rainy. Oh well. Headed back late Saturday morning, and avoided the smokeys since we got llke 12MPG going thru the mountains. And adding another 700LBS to the truck wasn't gonna help much. Rained all the way home! btw, CJ, one thing I found extremely amusing in North Carolina... Only in the south can you, on one street, withing an 1/8 of a mile, hit a church, an adult book store, and a fireworks stand Quite interesting to say the least. The only thing missing is a tavern On the way home we stopped at a small gas station/diner to fill up on the top of a mountain in TN. OMG! Thomas said it perfect when he went in to the bathroom. "Mom, that's disgusting" I'll post some more pics of the DNEPR(pronounced Neyip IIRC), and IMS after I get home this evening on brewcitybrag.org |

Steve, My Mom is from Winston-Salem. I rode down there last summer and it was a beautiful ride. I wish I would have known you were going. I know a route through Ohio that cuts a couple of hours of the interstate trip. The Desent from VA into NC on I-77 is one of the best views in the lower 48 states. If you really want a ride try following the old WV turnpike road, if it still exists. JT (Message edited by Impulse_101 on February 14, 2005) |

Sooo... Since it's somewhat dead in here, and too cold to ride... (I looked outside when i woke this morning, looking how nice and sunny it was, was going to ride the bike to work, until I saw the thermometer, and noticed it's 11 out ). Think about what kind of rides we'd like to do as a group for the coming riding season. I know I *REALLY* want to do a ride to Lambeau. Ron also seemed quite enthusiastic about that ride also when we were talking on the way back from IMS. And now that our leaker dictator, er... director is deserting us, we also have to think about who wants to be director? Any ideas? |

I guess I should make the formal announcement to the group............. I accepted a new job in Madison last week Friday. I will be giving notice to my current employer on Monday. This gives me a starting date of 3/7 in Madison. Over the next couple of months I will be commuting on a daily basis while we look for a neighborhood and house that we want to live in. While I am excited about the new job and the opportunities that it will open for me and my family, at that same time I am sad that I won't be able to participate quite as much this year and the years that follow. Once we have set a ride schedule I will try and work as many as I can into my summer riding! |
