Being its one of the only smaller harleys with a singarm that actually mounts to the frame it was worth a shot. Have had her since dec of last year.. It was decent, handled alright and did wheelies like nothing but still didnt have what ive been used to (ive ridden sportbikes my whole life). This is what it was like before... This is it now: And these are my first mods: Harley rotors, trees, calipers and tubes were 47lbs. Buell wheel, brake caliper, rotors, trees, forks, fender were 39lbs. Ill keep you guys posted. Plan on getting her sub 500lbs, my XB12 weighes in at 440 loaded, so if I can get this around 480-500 that would be pretty cool. Its 540 as you see in in the before pics. Anyone know what the XR1200 sportsters weigh? (Message edited by deanh8 on March 05, 2012) |

Yeah keep up the good work !, I bet it will be a killer machine when you are finished. I had a 91 FXR for a while, best riding big twin I ever rode. Plan on another someday. Kudos fellow enthusiast. |

Gee, now which young engineer was it at H-D who designed that frame years ago? Odd, what, that the FXR frame series represented by your bike is such a good handling motorcycle compared to the rest of the models. |

Buell designed frame, harley designed forks, brakes, wheels, suspension. Getting rid of all the harley crap. Buell wheels, brakes, forks should compliment it nicely. Im actually going with Ulysses fork tubes, which are 32" in length compared to my XB-R pictured which are 28". The raised forks on my FXR are 32". Ill then have triples made that drop down an inch or two to make up for the smaller rim and tire. Should be a decent height to handle worth a damn. Also getting a custom swing arm made from aluminum to lighten it up a bit more and using a 4 piston Brembo rear caliper with the XB rear rim, and the 8 Piston ZTL2 Caliper for the front with the XB front rim. KOSMAN Specialties will be doing the machine work on the trees and making the swing arm from scratch. They do awesome work and are known for making wheels wider. Check them out.. www.KOSMANSpecialties.com Im going from standard forks, single piston front brake, single piston rear, steal boxed swing arm, heavy rims to.. inverted forks, 8 Piston front brake, 4 piston rear, aluminum swing arm, light rims All at a very low cost. PM brakes run what? 500 a caliper? before the rotor which is another 500 if I remember right. |

please do another weighing in of the parts when you go to the longer forks and 8 piston brake, curious how much more it weighs than what you have pictured above |

For some reason the 43mm 32" forks are lighter. Even my 47mm 1125R forks are way lighter then my 41mm XB9 forks. The factory XB9 41mm forks that came on my '03 are pretty heavy. Didnt make sense to me... caliper on the other hand is heavier. Ill post the difference between ZTL and ZTL2 later. (Message edited by deanh8 on March 09, 2012) |

You know I got caught up putting a turbo on my XB and I think there has been a change of plans for this bike. I can get XR1200X Sportster trees and fork tubes for really cheap. Also that allows me to run the new VROD wheel and dual brakes. Not sure yet. |

I did finish all the suspension, rear half, and front half. Went with all VROD and XR Stuff up front and had GPR Make a top tree. Finished a tranny, started to get into the motor build and it started to add up quick. This is as far as shes made it so far, hope to finish it sometime this year.
