My 2002 Road King has the original battery and I've decided to replace it before going to Sturgis. Is there anything I need to do to reset the alarm after replacing the battery? The manual seems unclear on that. I don't even know if there is an existing PIN number in there. Also, are there cheaper alternatives to the OEM battery that are just as good? I don't think I can wait for one to come in the mail so it would have to be like Battery Warehouse or something. Thanks. | ||

This might be a little late as a reply, but here goes anyway. The alarm should be fine, the battery gets disconnected all the time for various service and no reset of alarm is necessary. I service my own '02 bagger with alarm (doesn't have a siren, I have no need for one) and never needed to do a reset. I have to replace my battery every 3 years, so if you've got 6 years on original battery, why change, go for the OEM. There is a battery plus store here in Stockton that had a sealed OEM style replacement for a whole $10 less than the local stealer, everything appears to be same battery but a generic. So if you use something like this, you should get good service. Wise decision replacing that old of a battery before trip. | ||

Thanks. I already replaced the battery with an OEM battery from the dealer. I didn't like the price but I feel good about having done it. I didn't have any trouble with the alarm or anything else. For the life of me I can't get through the instructions to put in a PIN number. I hope I don't need one. |
