I love the Roadie, but sometimes wished it handled abit better. I was looking for suggestions to improve it's performance in the mountains.

Better forks? Midcontrols? Stickier tires?

M: I've heard good things about "fourth link" kits for the FLH bikes. Tru-Track or something similar. I have no personal experience with them, though.

I have an 07 RG and installed a gizmo called missing link from a Canadian outfit TWR. Made a big difference on hi speed cornering on rough roads.

Go ahead and CAREFULLY (by which I mean don't try anything that requires traction) wear out those Dunlops and get some Metzler ME 880's on that thing. You'll think you got a different bike, they are really that much better for handling. Might not last as long, but the trade-off is well worth it.

I left the part out about adding 880s with the link.
Replaced dunlops on my last 3 HDs with metzlers and found noticeable improvement.

My '91 FLT sometimes feels like it's doing a little hula dance on the freeway in crosswinds and truck wind buffeting. I'll be replacing the swingarm bushings and then will be looking into those link stiffeners if it doesn't improve enough. There appears to be two or three different options for the 4th link type stuff, got the info buried in the garage at home. Supposed to improve the handling and maybe stiffen/harshen up the ride a little. Tires won't help mine until I get the dancing under control.

I put 25wt oil in the fork, and run 20-25 lbs in the air shocks, helps a lot.

So far I've mounted the Metzlers. Love 'em. Thumbs up. I'll try swapping out the fork oil next.

Make sure you check the air pressure in those tires VERY regularly.

Metzlers will come apart if the 'air pressure'(according to Metzler) is off.

I am collecting tires at this point.

True Trak(it's what we have experience with) works well. I suspect better suspension would graetly add to your riding pleasure. ; )
