Well, if they haven't noticed, they sure have now.
Have a Jardine RT.1, TFI, K&N, etc (all the nice stuff) on the bike...

Well with this extra power, less weight have been experiencing powerslides when braking into corners, One in particular was today arriving at work, YUP straight into the garage under the building. NICE...
(Yeah down the street, light tap of the brakes and turn into the building, rear slides around, give a little gas and down the ramp under the building)
The boys across the road at a tyre shop gave me the "thumbs up" seal of approval...
Either that or they are waiting for me to purchase a new set of tyres.

Has anyone else experienced powerslides after removing the heavy stock can ?
I only break lightly on the rear, mainly front..

Cheers.

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, you probably highsided.

I have noticed more tail twitch under heavy braking with the V&H SS2R on my XB12...

Had to completely readjust both my riding style and the susp settings when I first installed my light weight muff,is incredibly fun to spin the rear out of corners, bring the front up as it hooks, slide some more, takes practice, tho, take it easy as you wear out the supercorsas!!!

Went for a ride sat. morning. Turning right at an intersection shifted from first to second rolled on the throttle and the rear wheel just spun.

I must say for myself I enjoy finding the balance between slipping and gripping in a turn...then messing with that balance from time to time to see what happens.

Ya got to push it a little to have some fun...

I have had the rear spin almost every time I ride on a cold surface. It happened a few months back, and prompted me to ask about cold weather tires. I've since gotten used to it, and have fun gas'n it out of the driveway,

to be clear, I have a new D207, and we're tallkin about "Slipage" upon throttle up, by getting used to it, I mean I can expect it when I pull out of the drive, and while making the 90 out, I can goose it and slide the rear, it's fun, it's EASY

Yeah, I've got a cold on this one as well. My XB couldn't pull the skin off custard let alone spin up a Pilot Sport in dry conditions.

Mine won't spin either... She keeps trying to spit me off the back of herself and then travel a short distance up-side down. So far I haven't let her have her way. She does this in the rain as well. Just hooks up and goes.

Damn those engineers... What were they thinking?

not to be high jacking the thread, but if this is so hard to do ( on a 12 ), am I experiencing traction problems from the cold tire/ and or road surface, poor tire compound ( D207 ), or wrong settings on my suspension?, oh, and it will pull the front up ( a few inches ) on a good day(warm, 70 and up ) under same location/ throttle conditions

You guys must have oil leaks or using "ceramic" compound tyres. The power band on my XB is way too smooth to unsettle the rear without the use of the clutch. It will lift the front in first using throttle chop but nothing else.

Anyway I got the Buell Race muffler still on mine, maybe I'll take it off and get some sideways action tonight after work.

A couple of time when leant over in a 90 degree (intersection or roundabout) turn and accelerating in 2nd on half throttle or less I have felt the back slide. I have Avon Azaro tyres with around 2500ks on them.

Well if you look at the tires you will see evidence of spinning if you ride hard. It's more like a diesel truck though as the revs build slowly and the wheel spin is a little hard to detect. My 12 will sometime pump the rear up and down a little on hard acceleration (usually at around 50 mph which tells me I am spinning a little).

Send me some of those drops please -- I don't think they sale them down here. Thanks!

Does it have something to do with rider weight? I'm a big boy, and ride in less than perfect conditions and my XB will also slide the rear end around a corner or 2. It's enough to pucker my butt when I'm not expecting it. Like deerhunter said is there something wrong with our suspension settings? I'm too cheap to change my tires yet, I have a new set in the garage, but want to get a few more miles on the 207's.

I have a XB9s, since taking off the stock can, replaced with a Jardine RT.1, TFI, 12box and K&N.
Have been experiencing rear slides, gearing down/breaing into corners and giving some RPM off standing start, "nothing to make the ole pink valve pucker up", I'm not a big guy (76kg), I did recently check the air pressure on the rear they were a little down..
The Bike is running well, apart from maybe a little hotter than before I installed the gear.
Q: has anyone else notice the bike(s) run hotter once modifying from stock gear to "Slip-on Exhaust, TFI, open airbox"

Cheers

Just a suggestion? Might check the preload on the shocks? Might stop it from happening. If the ride is too soft, the rear will break free. Now, my preloads are race settings, but then the only chicken strips you get around here are at Mc Ds. Course, it'll put yer nuts into yer throat when you hit the tracks or something else, but with the stock 208s I have no problems at all with the rear breaking loose. Just my .02 YMMV.

I think this thread owes us a definition of "sliding" as opposed to "moving around" To my mind sliding happens when you cause the back to break away and slide e.g. backing it into a corner - this takes a lot of b***s and skill. Any gobsh**t can make the back wheel move around by injudicious application of power when the bike is leaned or surface conditions are poor. I do the latter regularly but no way can i manage a controlled slide (uncontrolled is not a problem)....if all you guys are power-sliding allover the place then I'm a big girls blouse (it wouldn't let me say p*ssy).....what are we talking about here?

As threads are like people, growing any changing, I admit, I have not participated in the actions suggested by the initial post. I was responding to a comment concerning "Spinning" or "Breaking" the rear tire loose. As I stated, on my '04 12R, (ECM/Drummer/ air box mods/ K&N, replaced Dunlop 207"RR" ( Race Replica) rear tire with approximately 1000 miles on it now ), I experienced breaking the rear loose upon acceleration, on a cold surface, pulling from drive onto roadway, so tire temp cool as well. I have learned to expect and can control this, thus having some fun . That was my comment. Is this common? Is this the tire? is it the bike? is it the weather? Is it the surface? these are the questions I was seeking answers to by asking, and following others comments. Seems to be the reason for posting, isn't it?

I can back My rear into corners under breaking also, getting back on the throttle and spinning the rear up. I am sure it comes from all my years on DirtBikes. It's a great feeling when it all works right. But, If it goes wrong, it will go major wrong.

The only time I can slide is when I "jam" on the back breaks when I come to a stop and kick the back end over a little to park. I weigh 275... with no gear and yes my front end will come up.

I still have the D207s on. And it broke traction
today leaned over. I was rolling on the throttle
in second. It was very nice and smooth and
controllable. I raced flat track when I was
a teen, so I just stayed on the throttle
a little. It's a XB12R with Drummer and Race ecm
K&N.

Our Aussie bikes get fed 5h1t fuel, so proly don't make the same power as those who get to feed at more generous fuel outlets in the USA, makes a huge difference to power delivery for a start.

I got an XB12 with the lot, race ECM, TFi, Jardine, wrapped headers, Pilot Power silica based tyres, K&N, air box eliminator... I even modified the Jardine so it'd get more bottom end...

My bike will allow really nice controllable drift on any corner I can really lean into... Some would call it a slide, but I think you need to watch Garry McCoy in action to see a true slide. Controllable drift, however, is easy as pie on my XB12.

Now, the Pilot Power are a really sticky tyre. The old Dumblop D207 and D208 I have used on the 12 used to slide ALL the time... Those tyres were just plain cr@p. I played around with the rear preload, too soft (3) and the back end will wag about and slide as it transfers between traction and slide and back to traction, too hard (5) and it slides too easy. For my weight and style 4 is spot on, perfect balance between hooking up and controlability.

But the Dumblops were way easier to get to break loose than the Pilot Power.

Well, interesting thread this.

I found my problem of sliding rear tyre.
Had some photos of the recently installed Jardine, upon viewing photos I noticed something.

The outlet of the Jardine, partially expels on the the rear tyre, YUP.. So when sitting at lights, idling CR#P builds up on the tyre, water vapour/oil anything that comes down the pipe.
So when you brake to a left hand turn, and lean the bike over - BINGO, it's like hitting an oil slick on the road..

I think she's running a little rich...
will have to alter the TFI settings to lean out.

TRENCHTRACTOR, your thoughts ???
As your running a Jardine yourself...

I purposely sat up on the air lid, pushed my feet back into the pegs, leaned over hard(towards front tire) Throttle, dump the clutch, NO SPIN, front tire rose grabbed the clutch, front dropped back down, pelvis slid forward into highest part of air lid, one boy went that way the other went that way. Roled bike to a stop and had to rest for a while. I have never gotten the rear to spin without brake action. Going through curves- only once cuz I crossed the yellow at a hard angle, but once she hit solid pavement it hooked up nice and tight. Running Bridgestone Battletrax.}

It is possible that yours is rich... But until you get the tune you won't know for sure...

I can't say on any of the settings I've had the TFi on that the back tyre has gotten 'wet' from fuel... But I guess it's possible...

The amount of fuel you are talking about, you would expect the inside of the tip to be damp. I'd check it next ride, if it is damp you are way rich.

Are you waiting for your tires to get warm?

I was concerned about the same thing on my Jardine, but it hasn't cause me any problems. My concern would be added heat on a hot day at the track though.
