Yeah, I blew most of my budget on the bike, helmet, jacket, gloves, pucks and, of course, TFM. So, I'd like to hear the voice of experience. If you had $100 to spend on a 9S, what would you do with it? Include "free" mods like bobbing the back fender, drilling the airbox, etc, if you like. Thanks, Bill |

Remove Snorkel 12 Airbox K&N Filter |

Well, certainly buy a 12 airbox to drill. Also buy the race filter. That should do in the money pretty good. When you install the race filter, yank the snorkel as well. Also, switch the primary fluid to Mobil-1 75-90W gear oil (the full synth stuff). That'll help it shift better, but I recommend you wait on that until there is at least a couple thousand miles on the bike, just to make sure the tranny is worn in well. When you do it, switch to M1 20-50W V-Twin oil for the engine as well (The fully synth stuff). |

A bit of a budget buster, but I will mention it anyway. Most new owners are having so much fun with their bikes that they don't think about replacing the tires just yet. However, many members who have upgraded to Pirellis, Michelins or Metzlers report that they wished they hadn't waited until the Dunlops wore out, I know I wish I hadn't. The new rubber will probably be the best investment in Buelligating you can make! Cheapest mod: setting up your suspension properly. |

Good post Jon... I was going to mention the tires, but it was over-budget so I didn't. Good call on setting the suspension correctly . |

Also X-Ring... Most people only get <=3000 miles out of the stock tires... Start saving now. A new set will run just over $200 plus installation. |

I was determined before I got the bike to leave the engine alone, but if you guys insist... I guess the K&N filter and 12 airbox wouldn't hurt anything. The Mobil synthetic oils are already purchased, just waiting for the time to put them in. The bike is an '04 factory bike, has about 3000 miles on it. The back tire looks almost new, the front not as good, but plenty of life left. I'll save for Scorpion Sync's. I'm thinking of the CityX handguards, too. Going back and forth about the rear fender. I love the bobbed look, but hate to mess it up. Thanks, Bill |

Before you order an airbox check and see if it has the 12 one. My 2005 XB9R has the new airbox already. g u s |

I have done track days for $75 near the end of the riding season. Advanced rider course is less than that. Get your CCS license & track days are half priced. |

Not a reach at all. Track days can be done for less than $100 & if the person happens to be a female track days thru NESBA are half priced all the time. Will look up the price for the advanced riders course. |

Whats he gonna wear for pants???His long underwear??Are his jacket approved, gloves, etc Well he did state he bought a helmet, jacket, gloves, pucks, etc. The track days I have attended they never even once looked at any of my gear..the bike yes but never the gear. I figured the track day or training of some kind would be mentioned. But it's not all about the speed...wondered what kind of mods could be done on the cheap for cosmetics, comfort, carrying capacity, etc. Thanks guys. Bill |

I got a $9 backpack at walmart and removed the straps to make a nice (color matched even) tail bag. Velcro Straps and Bungee nets finish the job. |

1/2 day at aztrackday.com is $99 w/free leather rental. It can be done with the research. I'm shooting for 3 this year... I've decided it's def the best gain for the $$$. I'm going to do Wheelie school at the end of the year just for the fun of it... |

OK, Bill, Here is an inexpensive little mod, that I enjoyed doing. I just never liked the graphics on the timing cover, and I hated having any pop rivets anywhere on my motor, so I removed the timing plate and rivets, tapped the holes for 10-32 chrome button head screws, and painted the timing cover flat black to match the engine cases. Not much work, and I felt A LOT better about my bike:-). |
