i just slapped on a new set of tires today. michelin pilot powers, what a difference they make, now that's how the bike should handle. just my opinion but much better than the dunlops, by far. I can't wait to go riding tomorrow. and i got a killer deal on them. |

Where did you get your tires from? |

klink, I don't know about the michelin's but a few people here have put on new tires and did not wait for the break in period... ended up low siding. Something about the tires excreting some mold or something like that. I could be wrong...(would not be the first time and I am sure someone will correct me) but just wanted to throw out that caution. Enjoy your ride tomorrow. Shawn |

That's a good call Shawn... I wash my Metzelers with a mild mix of dish washing soap before I mount them. I generally wash/rinse them 2-3 times. Then I take it easy for a while anyway... |

I got them from Cycle Gear in Oxnard California for $203.00. I go real easy on them for the first 100 miles or so till I get all that film off them. |

The film on the tires is a mold release that is sprayed on the mold before the tire is made. It helps release the mold so they can make tires easier. My step brother just took a 05 R6 for a test ride and high sided it in the parking lot going 15 to 20 mph. New tires are very slick until this chemical is washed or warn off. I put about 43 miles on my bike just around the neighborhood concrete scrubbing in the tires. I felt how slick the new tires where in the parking lot when I picked up my 12R. The rearend almost slid out from under me twice on the cold parking lot. So watch out for those new tires. They can be a killer. Brupska |

$60 per tire??? That is kinda a rip-off unless you bring in the bike. I paid mine total $70 to have both tires mounted and balance (wheels were taken off by myself). It might be best to look around but to be warned that service will charge more if tires are not bought from them originally. |

It depends on how much work you are going to do yourself, that is, are you going to take the wheels off the bike yourself? Generally, the shop will charge a "per hour" fee which can be anywhere from $50 to who knows how much. Some bikes can also be much more difficult to change tires on than others, which is probably why they don't charge a flat rate. I have had both tires mounted and balanced for $25 on more than one occasion, but not on my Buell. I have read about problems removing wheels from the XB's, so you might want to keep that in mind. |

Cycle Gear has done mine (off the bike) for $12 each to mount and balance my tires, no difference if I bought the tires there or not. Black_Sunshine and I went in one Sunday in a hurry. They had to call someone in, because there wasn't anyone there that could do the change. They mounted and balanced his tires (off the bike) and charged him nothing. We live in a Buell friendly, motorcycle loving area. |

I either do mine myself, or I get charged $15 if I bring in the wheel/tire. |

Why would you bleed the brake to change a tire? |

Cyclegear varies by location Glitch. The local Cyclegear here charges $14.99 to mount and $12.99 to balance tires not purchased through them. If its ordered through them they only charge you the $14.99 per tire and not charge you for the balance. |

Cyclegear varies by location Glitch. I had no idea, in that case I feel very fortunate. I live near the best dealership in the South East, and the local Cycle Gear is tops. Both of which are easy to get to using the back roads. Cool |
