I am in the process of getting a Drummer for my XB9R and have gotten a Race ECM from Dave. What I am wondering is if I should put in the Race ECM at the same time as the Drummer or can I wait a bit and ride for a while with the stock ECM. The bike has the 12 airbox and K&N Air Filter on it already. |

It'll be OK, it will run lean though. You'll hear a lot of popping at deccel (leaning out). Kevin and Brian recommend the Race ECM, I'm guessing that's why. |

That was what I was thinking...would only be running it for about a week until I can get it over to the dealer for the TPS reset. The weather is colder when I ride to work and back too....~45 degrees so that may help. Okay so it may be safe to run it for a short while on the stocker but it is not recommended long term. |

I know of several XBs that have just an aftermarket exhaust and no other mods, and have heard of no problems doing it that way. It's just if you want the most out of the Drummer, you want the Race ECM, or better yet, the stock ECM and a TFI unit. |

I'm just shy of 12k on my Drummer with a stock ECM and it's still performing great. "Ride it till it seizes" Ski |

I put the whole race kit on except for the ecm until it arrived. I have to say it ran HOT. Fan running constantly, and like Glitch says, lots of popping on decel. With the ecm installed about a week or two later, all problems solved. Even on long easy rides, the fan was staying on for long periods of time. Now the only time the fan comes on is when I prick it with my spurs and yell "YAH HORSE, YAH!!" |

It should run fine with the stock ECM but I originally designed it to work with the Race ECM... www.kdfab.com |

The name of the guy that creates the Drummer is Kevin Drum. |
