I'm due back a tidy bit from my income tax and I was wondering what my options were for carbon fibre replacement parts for my CityX? I'm pretty much sold on the bits offered by Iron Machine but who else makes them? A while back someone had posted pictures of Buell parts in a lurvley green carbon/kevlar but a search turns up nothing. So, give me some ideas, please. Bob |

Off the top of my head: Buell factory parts(Dave), American Sport Bike, and www.yoyodyneti.com. I don't have an XB, but I remember seeing CF parts at those sites... I bet just about all the sponsor sites also carry the stuff. though! The colored CF kits that have appeared here are apparently references to a shady singapore manufacturer that actually stole some molds from a BWB member to make the parts...their listed prices are ridiculous, and their business practices are apparently not exactly kosher... The parts themselves are apparently CF covered fiberglass too... |

I believe it was Rocketman that had the Kevlar. I contacted him about it. He didn't give me the details, but it almost sounded like the company he was working with to manufacturer the parts ran off with his molds. |

It was Roc not Rocket.

Ripping off composite parts happens all too often. Cheap graphite usually means wet laid-up, therefore not much weight saving compared to fiberglass and a pitted outer surface. Keep in mind, carbon is a brittle fiber and unless thought out, a poor design can self-destruct. I know the no-compromise pieces sold by such as American Sport Bike are pricey - but they are truly as light as you can make them without sacrificing durability. Personally, unless you're just going for the look, I'd stay with fiberglass. I work with the stuff for a living and can get graphite dang near free but if you look at my racebike, all the bodywork is fiberglass. |
