OK guys...here's the scenario... 1) XB9SX ('05 City X) I love it by the way,(I will not be taking this to the track...my AFM days are way past and I just want to enjoy this on the street) 2) upgrade the air filter to K&N 3) add the Techlusions TFI module 4) upgrade to maybe the Drummer 'can' A) will just the filter and TFI module take care of the pinging I'm hearing? B) will I notice much difference without doing the pipe right away? C) do any of you have better ideas /combos / suggestions? remember i will not be racing nor do i want to go all out...just better than stock performance Thanks to all for at least reading this Bob |

The air filter will most likely make the pinging worse. The TFI should eliminate it completely (as long as it's from the "standard" cause, lean and hot). I'd do both of those at the same time. Add the filter, run for ten minutes at operating temp to allow the AFV to set itself to that setup, then install the TFI and tune. You WILL notice a difference. Yo will notice more again with the Drummer. That's an excellent can. (heh heh) |

I would think that the drummer would eliminate all engine noise. Leaving you with only the raspy and as my 2 year old says, brooooom brooooom!!! |

Same mods, different order??? Bike has NO pinging and no problems. If I add the K&N and 12 airbox to a 9S with stock pipe, will I have problems? (sorry to steal post, but related questions) tank |

"If I add the K&N and 12 airbox to a 9S with stock pipe, will I have problems? " Most don't. |

No problems with the 12 airbox (even cut up), race filter, and the 9s stock pipe. Runs great. I have a dyno plot of exactly that, and it is not dangerously lean anywhere. My 9sx has never pinged, are you running good gas, and are you sure it is really pinging? The bikes makes lots of noises, but pinging has not been one of them. Might be worth checking the timing as per the manual. (Message edited by reepicheep on February 01, 2005) |

no i'm not sure of the pinging...sounds a bit like it but could be 'normal' sounds for a v-twin...i have too many miles on these... '72 R5C, '75 RD250, '76 RD400, '81 Seca 550...now i'm riding on what i think sounds ALOT like a ride-on mower (i still love my buell no matter what it sounds like) so all in all, i'm just trying to improve its performance some... BTW...i raced both RDs and the Seca, of which i thought my RD250 handled better than the rest....NOW i feel the Buell way out handles everything! YAHOO!!! Thanks again guys |

Cut the inner airbox and trim the snorkel (lots of pictures of good approaches in here, mine used velcro cable ties from wal mart and o-rings and is very non invasive). The intake noise will be so loud, whatever you think is the pinging will "go away" If that's too loud, put on an aftermarket exhaust, you won't hear the intake noise then |

Bobup, rule of thumb... Ask DaveS @ Appletons HD/Buell... Great guy, service and price. or post a message, DaveS has certain ways of finding all questions asked, like rubbing a genie lamp... suddenly appears.. Cheers.. |
