I have been looking for a new scoot this winter. My selection has ended on an XB12R. I'm sure you will all approve My question is. Other than a thorough inspection is there another way to tell if a used bike has been wrecked. I know there will be salvage or rebuilt on the title in some cases. What about a VIN check, Would that turn up anything? Can anyone check it for me or recommend a source for the check? Thanks. |

Vegas, The check that we as dealers have will not turn up if the motorcycle has been wrecked or fixed. Basically just tells warranty status, and a couple other not-so-interesting tidbits. Craig |

That is what I thought, Warranty status from a dealer VIN search. I was looking for something similar to CarFax for bikes. I guess a good inspection, test ride, and title examination will be fine. If anything is fishy I will wait and just go new. Can't wait to join the club though. Thanks, jim |

One side note on the subject. On most vehicle history reports, repairs paid out of pocket or unknown to authorities WILL NOT show up on the report, so good judgement trumps all documents here. Good luck. I guess a good inspection, test ride, and title examination will be fine. If anything is fishy I will wait and just go new. Right on! Listen to your own advice. Those are the best things to do at this point. (Message edited by kowpow225 on February 01, 2005) |
