Has anyone been to the H-D website? H-D has just released a new motorcycle called the H-D Street Rod. Its a cross between a super glide sport and a Buell. It has inverted front forks, foot pegs behind the knees and a short handle bar. The engine has 120hp and 80ft-lbs of torque at 7000rpm. Its a nice bike. | ||

Hi Lightning...yep, someone else mentioned it the other day. It still looks like a V-Rod to me, but I like the things you mentioned. I was considering a new sport touring bike, but this is a nice alternative that might handle, still have some horses to play with, plus it would be a Harley. I will be glad when the reviews start coming out...want to know more about how it handles. I am short legged though, and am also wondering if the VRod seat will fit it. I note the rear shocks jack it up a bit also. Oh yes, it has a 5 gallon tank too. Like that for a sport touring bike. I have some concerns about the emission laws on 2006 and newer bikes (mentioned on another thread), but otherwise it is an interesting change to the VRod and an alternative to the Buell. I was told by a salesman at Tilley's in Statesville that he feels that the reason why H-D released this bike so soon is that the V-Rod sales has been flat for months where no one has been buying them. I can understand that because the V-Rod feels heavy in the turns and doen't handle well. Back to the Street Rod - it has a 30 degree rake in the front, seat hight of 30 inches, ground clearance of 6.7 inches, wheel base of 66.8 inches, weight of 617.4 lbs and a lean angle of 45 degrees on both sides. Tilley's said they were told that it start arriving in the dealerships in April of this year. I plan on test riding one when it comes in. If it rides and handles good, I'll probably buy one. | ||

Lightning...yes, noticed the rake was better for handling also. Interesting bike. If you get one, give us some feedback. As I said, I am considering another Sport Touring bike, and this might be good...also Harley. In my personal tastes, it is not a competitor with my Buell...different concepts and usage in my book. I know some of us have to make choices...one bike, so that is where a person really has to decide which is the best all around bike for their purposes, intent, and taste. And the crowd you run with... I am looking forward to the reviews...yours and the biker magazines. | ||

Dead subject, but play with the tank and tail section and you might find a bike you can live with. I did with "White out" and felt pen and am one step closer to liking it once I figure out how to make fiberglass or plastic parts as well as source some shorter pipes. |
