I am looking to get a tank bag for my XB12R. $150.00 for a tank bag (Buell website) seems quite pricey for a nylon bag with some straps. Has anyone purchased an aftermarket tank bag that they are happy with and is priced reasonably. Thanks Dale | ||

Most tank bags mount with magnets and will not work with the plastic airbox. The Buell tank bag is worth it. | ||

As much as I like tank bags, I feel that regardless of what they are made of, there is scratching that occurs on the tank from the minor movement of the bag. While not quite as large, I got the Buell Firebolt Tail bag. http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gear/accessories/productslist.asp?Menu_ID=4&ID= 1318&MITEM=62 Plus, if you pack it full enough, you can use it as a back rest. <<grin>> Drawback is that it isn't really the kind of bag you carry around with you if you go somewhere, but if I'm planning on doing that, I'll wear a backpack. | ||

Thanks for the info on the Eclispe bag, though it seems that with the bag and the needed accessories to have it not scratch the "tank" and strap on correctly, the Buell bag (with Dave's price) is competitive. So what is the deal with a free rain jacket? That deal seems well worth it. Dale | ||

Be careful of non-buell bags. I kept the one from my X1 that I bought online from a discounter, and it does NOT fit the curve of the XB. | ||

The best part about the Buell bag is that the straps are made just for the bike. So there is no looping of universal straps to try to make it fit. | ||

Marsee makes great tank bags and (like most manufacturers) has magnetic and non-magnetic versions of all bags. I got the Joe Rocket Sport bag for XMas but always ran a Marsee Mr Pockets on my S3 and after tens of thousands of miles noticed no scratches from the bag. The rain jacket is for the tank bag not the rider. Thanks Dave! I knew it fit a little tight!  So there is no looping of universal straps to try to make it fit. I also like that it has four straps instead of three, like most of the strap on bags I've seen. I also like that you can take the bag off without having to un-do the straps. | ||

I have both an Eclipse and a Chase Harper tank bag. The Eclipse has held up reasonably well, considering it's relatively low price, but I've had to stitch/repair it a couple of times. The Chase Harper bag is completely bullet proof. That, and their "no questions asked" lifetime warranty makes them worth a look. I like the look of the "650" model, but don't know if it'd fit an XB. Other than under the rear strap, I haven't had much of an issue with scratching the tank. But then I have a tank bra on the S2 for touring. Henrik | ||

I have the tourmaster cortech tri-bag with the strap pad and love it alot. The strap system is easy to use, keeps the bag very steady in all kinds of conditions, and its easy to take the strap pad off, or just the tankbag itself off. | ||

I saw Wickeds TriBag and loved it, bought one. Wife loved it. I got tired of her packing in mine, bought her one. The adaptability of the tri bag (Day bag, Full bag, or zipped together for luggage) can't be beat. It even has backback straps for when you dismount. Did I say that I love this bag??! | ||

I just got one of the older Buell tankbags. It's the grey/green ones with the white Pegasus on the side pockets and the Buell logo embroidered in blue on the back pocket. I forget the name of it. Somebody found it in one of the workstations at the Harley shop during a cleanup. Because it looked so nasty, loads of dust and cobwebs, they gave it to me. After I removed the stays, pads and map case I threw it in the washer. Viola! Brand new tankbag. I made a "Y" shaped strap for it at work and now it looks like it was made for my CityX. The Buell tank bag is well made, but in my opinion the xb12r with standard clipons is just too short for a tank bag filled to the brim. I returned mine after simply setting on the tank. I am sure it would work great with Heli-bars or on a xbs model though. Just my two cents (after a 619 mile trek). xbolt12 | ||

Cataract the Buell bag looks nice but way over priced.I went to Walmart and bought a Sampsonite camera bag and criss crossed the straps around the tail of my bike.It fits more and it expands.It also has 2 compartments.Heres the kicker...$15.00.I'd say thats what a $95.00 savings and the quality is just as good.   | ||

I bought the Buell tailpack for my 12S because it matches the lines of the bike perfectly and is big enough to hold lunch and other small stuff around town. I'll have to make a trip to WalMart, though, to check out that bag...looks perfect for when I actually need to carry something! (Thanks for the tip, BadS1!) | ||

I got a walmart bag as well, I think it was supposed to be a small girls backpack, but it looks great. I picked one that matches the shape of the lightning seat almost perfectly (kind of a rounded triangle). It even had a cool color highlight (blue) for my 9sx. Mounting can be done cleanly as well. I completely cut off the backpack straps. Then I used a soldering iron to melt four small holes in the back inside of the backpack, lining them up with right above and right below the "grab strap" on the seat. I then rest the backpack on the seat, and thread through some velcro cable ties (the ones with velcro all the way on the length, not the crappy ones with a small velcro patch at the end). You can get these at walmart as well, in the car section with the tie down stuff. So the bag is then "invisibly" anchored from flying off the back, but could still flop around. You could add extra strapping, but my solution was to then just put the elastic cargo net thing over the whole setup. It keeps it flat and snug when not in use, and expands as much as necessary when I fill the backpack, and can even stretch to carry larger stuff that won't fit in the backpack. I keep tools and emergency stuff in the backpack, and generally just throw "parcels" under the cargo net. It works nicely. I can post pic's if anyone is interested. | ||

New bags are ordered. Saddlebags for the S bikes! All look to be good quality. New tankbag is 99.95(I think) Will fit the 9SX I'll be back at work 8am Thursday morning. | ||
