Whats up Badweb, Question for the masses? 1. What is the plastics of the Buell made of? 2. Has anyone painted their bike with success, i.e. no cracks from vibration? 3. What brand of paint was used? Im thinking about painting it in dp-90)black primer),ghosting some flames and the putting a semi gloss, closer to flat, top coat on it. Just lookin for some feedback. Thanx Mike |

It's made of Surlyn... The same thing as golf balls. Plenty of painted bikes out there, and I haven't noticed any cracks myself. You've got me . |

I painted my bike with ultra-flat black Krylon and have not had any problems. |

The DuPont web site has their recommended procedure for painting Surlyn...all with their products, of course. If I can find the link, I'll post it. I just saved the PDF files to my computer in case I ever need the info. Bill |

Here is the link: http://www.dupont.com/industrial-polymers/surlyn/reflectionseries/ On the right side of the page are a list of links; the one about painting is the "Coating Guide". All you ever wanted to know about Surlyn... Bill |

You'll want to use Duponts ChromaSystem. That link provides a lot of helpful information. Basically, it's all in the prep. Clean clean clean! Plastic Prep to remove the shine and anything on the surlyn. Then it's prime and paint. You can go without the prime, but it's not recommended. |

I just bought my bike a few months ago and because of the weather I havn`t even really ridden it yet ,let alone having the guts to change anything .I guess that why I got black ,it looks cool any way, but ghost flames sound sound cool too! Zakk rules! |

Hey Pinball when I first got my bike I couldn't work up the courage to modify it as well. But once you parooze the bad web enough and see all the cool stuff everyone is doing to their bikes, you to will get the urge, and start cutting. |

The funny thing is, Why do we modify things? Why not just leave it alone and ride them? If we were on a track trying to squeeze vital seconds off, then I could understand. That is my logic speaking. Then reality sets in, and I'm a man that wants to squeeze every little bit that I can, just so I can say I have this, and that's it. It's a big black hole for cash that funnels down into the big aftermarket devils! I love it, and wouldn't have it any other way! So, you aftermarket devils, keep designing, so I can keep wasting hard earned money!! Hell, what else would I do with it? |

Some just want aesthetics... Personalization is key in motorcycling. We are a different breed of folk who are very independent and non-conformist to say the least... |

When I first started looking for a bike, I have to admit I was looking at cruisers and yes even choppers(you know ,the latest rage on T.V.)! But every bike I looked at the first thing I thought was Iv`e gotta change this ,I`ve gotta change that, and it goes on.But it was all in the name of being different with something that everyone else has. So one of the may reasons I bought the Buell is because I only saw one all last year, Way up here in Canada, and it was an X1.So now I`ve got something different but very ,very cool. And then I found this website .I think it`s cool but to some wive`s ,maybe not.Oh well ,maybe once I see some other XB`s hot rodded in person then I`ll start renovating.Besides ,I kinda like the "cheesy grater"! |
