So Aaron, Surely you need someone to drive the motorcycle BACK from LV to Colorado after the exhibit is done...having just completed the ride that Court just did on the way back from the Colorado fest to San Diego, I'm very qualified on those roads..( and I have a roll of gaffers tape!) Al |

Al, Good of you to volunteer, I ' sure aaron could use the help!!!! BTW what is your background, not many people would call it Gaffers not Duct tape. And there is a difference. Dave |

I'll admit, with the very nice (IMO) Firebolt web site, I am getting more and more psyched about it. If it keeps up like this, the Firebolt may just end up being my first Buell ;^D |

Dave, I've done a fair amount of sound reinforcement work for local bands and played in a few, but thru all that, always just used cheap Duct tape for cable management. Hideous stuff, really, gums up the cables, makes a mess, hate it. I knew there was stuff specifically available for the task but wasn't aware of the name. But on the return trip from ColoradoFest, it was DVNT (Jeff) that had a roll of genuine gaffers tape with him, he swore up and down by the stuff. We held a tire together for 350 miles (Lake Powell to Vegas) with the stuff, saved our asses big time. From now on, I will ALWAYS carry a roll with me on a long ride, it is most handy stuff. Know of a source for it that sells it at a good price? It isn't your basic HW store stuff. It's pricey. Al |

Al, we used to buy it form th elocal photo supply store that had the state contract. No idea of the price. Try some of the online photo supply places. Used it in the photo lab all the time works great. It was designed for the Hollywood Electricans who are called gaffer. they use it to hang lights and cords so it needs to suppport a lot of weight and do it in high heat enviroments while making a minimum of mess. It is like duct tape on performance enhancing drugs. Dave |

I heard that the Firebolt will be going for fl29,000 in Holland. That equates to $12,110.58 on the Yahoo cross rates at the moment. The X1 is presently fl26,495 here. PPiA |

We're talking under $10,000 here. That's about 23,950 NLG. Before any add on taxes and such graft. Still too high I think. Lots of good technology and all but there are a lot of good bikes to be had for less than $8,500. |

Hey Just saw over at amasuperbike.com that there is a proposal to allow air cooled twins up to 1350cc to run in AMA 750 supersport. Pro thunder style engine mods would be allowed and the series would stay on DOT legal tires. The only downside for the Firebolt would be that you would have to use the stock fairing which would put us at a serious aerodynamic disadvantage. Eric, we need a limited edition XB9RR with full bodywork. |

That is a great move by the AMA, but they should have done it in the 600 Supersport Class. From the Press reports, Buell wanted to race the Firebolt in 600 S.S. I think the Japanese manufacturers shot that one down. The 750 class needs some sizzle, it had become a Suzuki GSXR 750 spec class, so this is the right move. All this talk about rider involvement is shocking coming from the AMA, maybe Formula USA woke them up. Very promising, AMA! |

weight, my evil nemisis. as a conceptual design guy i have to project weight and balance calculations for all of our equipment, most weights in engineering are initially theoretical and cannot be verified until the final product is completed. everything is variable until you have a complete product. even my most complete calculations have a tendancy to be anywhere from 1 to 10% under the actual finished product weight. 385 lbs + 10% = 423.5lbs seems about right. note most modeling software does not take into account manufacturing deviations, welds and the stuff no one wanted to model deciding now if i want one of them critters to replace my totalled S1 [15k cdn] |

Bbub: If your weight calcs are consistently 1 to 10% low, you might consider adding 5.5%. One trick to accurately estimate weight when welds and nuts/bolts/washers are not included in the model is to bump the model's mass density appropriately. Things like plating/galvanizing, wleds, and bolted connections necessitated bumping the mass densitiy of satellite earth station antenna support structures by 10% in FEA models. |
