Here's the deal:I'm going to replace the plugs on the XB in a few weeks as it's got a bit over 10k on it. I'll probably get the dealer to check the timing and the tps and then I'll put on the techlusion I got from Dave. I went up to my local independent shop, where I've had good service from, to get some ngk iridium plugs. The dude at the shop(who just happens to ride an older Buell)said he wouldn't recommend the iridium plugs as he had had trouble with the top end (tach wise) on his using them and advised using just regular Champion plugs... What do yall think, make any difference one way or the other???

Thanks, Kevin

well you did ask "what do yall think" which could be taken as my cue to sound off, even though i have NOT used the iridium plugs in question. i will state that i have had no problems at all with the factory original 10R12 plugs. i removed my oem plugs at 10K miles, and they looked perfect, just like the new ones i installed. disclaimer: i am not a badweb sponsor, and am not offering any motorcycle parts or any other parts for sale here. also i should warn you that neither NGK, nor Champion, are known sponsors here, and discussion of these products may be strongly and/or randomly discouraged here.

Full, I'm not sure if you're serious here, but it sounds like you're going overboard. Discussing products from non-sponsors has never been a problem, with the exception of the tiforce exhaust, for obvious reasons IMO.

On boards like this, discussing every kind of buell related product should be encouraged.

Now please tell us you're joking or otherwise having a bad day.

We have always used NGK Iridium plugs on all our Buells, both road and track, and never had any problems with them. Maybe the tech you spoke to had a bad plug or another problem highlighted by the plugs? They do have to be gapped correctly.

I've had no problem with them at all.
FP, I'll bet you can buy those plugs and others from one of our sponsors.

I have tried equivalent NGK platinum plugs ( better than the OE) and the NGK irridium equivalents in my 03 9s. The irridium plugs seemed to make the engine more responsive than the Platinum, it certainly felt like the engine had more 0oommph, mind you I was using a F.A.S.T intake kit by that stage (11k) as well. Not a definitive test, but my own personal experience of the different types.

After a problem with a worn front HT lead @ 14k I swopped both the leads & the plugs for the "pro-series" items ( only becuase the dealership had them in stock, so I could get back on the road a.s.a.p) the latter combination seemed to work well. But my money would be with the irridiums again in my next 9s.

The NGK Iridiums work great. I an running the DCPR9EIX as I recall and it is supposed to be one heat range colder that the stock plug. I have not had any fouling problems and the bike is running great.

BTW if you search the archives you will see that I have discussed these and other products on this board and have never been censored for it. I think the whole idea that we can't talk freely about products on this site is very misleading. As far as I know this site is not to be used to promote products for sale, but I have certainly mentioned products by brand name and some before they were offered by sponsors-yet I have have not had a problem because I was simply objectively stating an opinion about a product based on my personal experience, not peddling a product without paying for advertising. I think that is the only concern of those that run this site.
