I was briefly looking at the exhaust swap and was wondering what do I do with the Sensor thingy on the Old exhaust? I hope I used all the proper Tech Words Like Thingy etc.... Thanks in advance, Rob S. Um almost forgot it's a XB12S not a 9 (Message edited by TEAM on January 08, 2005) | ||

There are a few options available to you... You can disconnect the cables and leave them hanging. You can disconnect the cables from the stepper motor and delete them. As I recall both of those options will throw a code because the ECM looks for confirmation from the stepper motor that it is open or closed. The bike will still run just fine though. You can get a race ECM which doesn't concern itself with the valve. Delete the wires AND controller at that point. I believe Opto has a design for a "simple" circuit that will fool the ECM into believing that the stepper motor is in place. I like the third option if you are handy with a soldering iron. | ||

By 'sensor thingy' do you mean the interative exhaust servo motor?? All you do when you drop the standard 12 muffler off the 12 is disconnect the mechanical control cable from the muffler and the sevo motor (located under the dummy tank) and leave the electrical cable attached to the servo motor... If you disconnect and remove th eservo motor completely without fitting a servo motor eliminator, you will get an ECM trouble code. | ||

I am a testament to OPTO's circuit, it does work, have had no problems so far, and is half the size of my pinky finger. Works great!! Try it, you might like it!! Bruce P.S. They just zip tied mine to existing wiring. I decided to leave the servo hooked up until i find a uncomplicated method of bypassing the trouble code. Awesome set of pipes  Ride Safe J  | ||
