Has anyone installed the wave rotors front and rear, if so how well do they work and hold up? First time posting, but have been getting great info here for 1 1/2 years. Thanks |

Welcome, although you've been here longer than me! Have no clue on the rotors, just thought I would say hello! |

I'm just curious, I was checking your profile Xbjelly9s and was wondering how you got a broke spark plug at 1200 miles? |

Not sure, it started popping and coughing now and then. Brought it to the dealer and they changed the plugs and said the rear one was cracked. |

Would also like to know what happened to your front stock rotor, need one for my friend who is going to make them in composite,(lrb brakes), will return it unharmed, if any one knows where to get one, plz e-mail me. Don't want to take mine off for the time needed to prototype one,(I ride every weekend),thx! |

I have recently installed one in the rear. In 50 miles or so braking effectiveness is about 1/2 of stock. I hope that when the pads seat better braking might improve. In any case I love the looks, it is 1/2 as heavy and being in the rear it makes little diffrence. In front I have the Ferodo brand unit. This has been on for 10,000 miles and is begining to show some signs of wear. |

I was under the impression that the wave rotors just dissipated heat faster. Read a testimonial of one installed on a Hyabusa. He did a lot of trail braking in the twisties and kept wearing out the stock rear pads. Claimed it worked as well as stock and solved his pad problems. |

Man, those rotors look nice. I need to take my bike in to have the bearings swapped out. When that happens, I plan on getting the rims powder coated black. I think I may just need to order those rotors and install them at the same time. I did see one site that indicated they were working on a razor style for the front as well. Anyone know anything about that? |

"I have recently installed one in the rear." Did that hurt much? |

Re: Wave rotors, I had my own design "razor" disc made-up for the rear of my 9s in August 03. I finally fitted it in Nov 03 and continued to use it fo untill August 31st 2004 (when my 9s was written-off in a RTA). At the time of the RTA the rear "razor" disc has approx 10k everyday/every weather usage on it, and the front Braking "wave" disc had about 8k. The rear "razor" rotor was a significant improvement on the XB's OE set-up (even with sintered pads). I found myself using the rear brake more in less than perfect conditions ( wet/damp/diesel). Also to settle my 9s when approaching a fast corner. Something I found the OE set-up wasn't able to offer. The front "wave" rotor seemed to help turn-in, and also was an improvement over the OE set-up ( I also ran sintered brake pads). The perfromance was more than adequate, and I never experienced any serious brake-fade or loss of perfromance even when practising to do stoppies. Also on the odd occasion I did use the front brake whilst cornering, the front "wave" rotor didn't seem to want to stand the bike-up like the OE disc did. There will be a front "razor" disc eventually, as the design of the "braking" version doesn't leave much material between the cut-outs and the edge of the disc ( something I always worried about failing under heavy usuage). Also I want a front "razor" rotor to match the rear version I already make. The designs have been drawn by the UK company I use to make the rotors (easy part) And it is a simular pattern to the rear disc (shown in this thread) The problem I am having is finding a precission machine shop in the UK with a big enough suface grinder, that will do small batch quantitys thus allowing the rotors once made to be trued. I would also like to road test the front rotor before I was satisified the design & performance were OK before offering them to other XB owners who already use my rear rotor. Unfortunatly a serious shoulder injury ( that requires major surgery) has prevented me from riding a Buell or my Tuono since Sept 04, but I do plan on getting back on a 9s once my shoulder has completely recovered and I'm fit enough to be able to ride an XB properly again, I expect this will be early Summer 05. I am already on the 3rd generation of rear "razor" rotors the 1st generation were made from cast-iron, the second were a high-grade stainless steel, the 3rd generation are the same high-grade stainless steel, but with a zinc coating. The ethos behind the "razor" rotors has, and always will be performance improvement first, looks second, sure the design is radical, but from my own experirnce + others who have used them they work well I am pleased to report. Adim, I apologise if you think I am promoting my product without sponsoring the website, I am merely letting other users know about my experiences with "wave" rotors. Regards - Stoo. |
