First time posting but have been lurking here awhile. Bought a new CityX in October to replace a KTM Duke II (too much vibes). Love the bike but wanted a little more. Due to this board, I installed the Race ECM, High-flow filter, Drummer exhaust, removed the snorkle and had the dealer reset the TPS. Wow, did not know what I was missing. Bike revs much easier and is more responsive. Thanks for everyones advice. Now if I could due something about this Southern Cal rain.

You can use the race ECM with any aftermarket exhaust and filter combo?

And socal rain will soon pass...leaving you with a year of uninterrupted beautiful riding...no complaints from SoCal's about weather! Not infront of us northerners! ; )

You are old, too. I also have the CityX, and the Duke really looks like it would be fun. How would you compare the two bikes in vibration at the bars? How loud is the Drummer? Why did you get it vs. the Race can?

Had a 2002 KTM Duke II. It was a blast through town but anything beyond 30 to 45 minutes was tough. Vibrations through the footpegs and handlebars enough to make my hands and feet go numb. KTM seats are also like concrete. If you into short, fast, twisty rides, the KTM is awesome. Beyond that the Duke is too limited. By comparison, the CityX rides like a Goldwing. With regard to the can, I read this and 2 other Buell Boards about the race can, D&D, Drummer as well as two or 3 other aftermarket cans for the XB9SX. After reading comments and dyno's posted I settled on the Drummer because it did not sacifice low-end torque for high-end horsepower. Since I do not know anyone who rides Buells, I took a chance and fiqured I could resell it on ebay if I didn't like it. Love the performance, sound and it weighs sustantailly less than stock. Workmanship is also top notch. Beyond that, I used the Buell race ECM, Race air filter and removed the snorkle.

Yes, the race ecm will work with almost any pipe and a high flow filter.

Now I am glad I didn't find a Duke before the CityX, as this 1960 model body seems curiously prone to vibration. I suppose you had to say farewell to your 24 month warranty, no? How loud is the Drummer compared to stock?

Bob, Welcome to the group. Looks like we have made similar modifications. I also removed the inner airbox cover which I then felt leaned out the bike so I added the Techlusion box. I haven't put more than 50 miles on it since the addition, but my preliminary seat of the pants opinion is very positive. It's in the 50s here in Jersey today which is pretty rare for January so I'm going to go out & play.

I'm planning to get a wideband O2 sensor and A/F ratio measuring system so I can set up the Teclusion perfectly.

Greetings Everyone,

My first post here but I too have been hanging around for awhile. I have a super tricked out KTM Duke II (full race exhaust, pumper carb, carbon fiber everything, etc. the normal stuff) which I am planning on replacing with a XB9SX. I read an XB9 road test where the author said "this bike reminds me of a KTM Duke with more power and a lower seat". When I saw that I was sold. I love the Duke. It rules the twisties! But, the high frequency vibration is getting to me. I commute on it daily which is no problem. It's the 300-400mi rides with my buddies that wears you down and then it's only the freeway stints that are tough. So it's time for an upgrade.
Speaking of that, here is the deal my local dealer in So. Cal is offering.
$8695 MSRP. No deal there.
$ 100 Ca emissions fee. OK.
$ 115 License fee. OK
$ 45 Doc fee. OK
$ 796 Tax. Can't do much there (8.25%)
$ 383 Freight. Ouch.
$ 427 Handling. Ouch!
$10561 OTD
This is a full boat deal. No discounts. Does anyone know what dealer net on this bike is? Is this the deal most are getting?

Ejiii, Maybe its just the Northwest but dealers here are pretty quick to drop the freight /handling just to get the bike out the door. They don't exactly sell a lot of them around here.

I bought my (new) 2003 xb9s for 8000 out the door in August. They dropped the shipping and handling and through in a street fighter seat. so they should be able to work with ya

I got my New 2003 XB9S for $8072 OTD in July. Granted they were anxious to get a '03 out of the showroom, but there should still be room to negotiate a 2005 XB9SX. Sales tax in Michigan is only 6% and we don't have an emissions fee. Even so, you should still get a better price. You could always ask Daves for a price.

Bought my XB9SX in November for $7995, less tax, plus $595 "set up fee," from HD of Ocala, Florida. The XB12 was only $500 more, which was an even better deal, but I really like the CityX. That was over $900 savings from Jacksonville, Fl dealer one hour away, (who was MSRP fixed and added other dealer fees like you described.) I found these prices on CycleTrader.com. It was worth the extra hour drive, for sure.

I just bought my XB9SX on December 4. I got a great deal from a dealer here in Pennsylvania. They were showing the total dealer cost as $7995. This gives you a starting point on how the SoCal dealer is marking things up.

The CA dealer isn't marking the bike up. The MSRP is 8695.00
Let just aren't discounting it.
They are however, padding the frt and set up to make an extra buck.

Thanks Daves. I work for an OEM so I am familiar with dealer net, MSRP and "upsell" costs. Since Buell is interested in and the dealer should be interested in establishing repurchase intent and lifetime owner loyalty it might be in their best interests to discount some of those fees to "lock in" a customer. There are always accessories and service work to make money on down the road. Most of all there is the "word of mouth" of a satisfied customer who got a good deal. As you know, you can't buy that type of advertising. We shall see.

I went to Schaeffer's HD/Buell in Orwigsburg, PA near Pottsville. They are currently selling XB9SXs for (I believe) $8,300 plus tax and tags. And Ejiii is correct; word of mouth advertising is probably the best way to advertise. That is why I am willing to recommend Schaeffer's. They treated me great, and I got a free item from every department when I purchased my bike: boutique, parts, and service, not to mention many discounts for future parts and service. I highly recommend anyone in PA to visit their store.

What's up, I just found this place. I just picked up a CityX in late december. I love the ride just looking into what to put money into. I was looking at the D&D pipe. Is that Drummer a better pick then that? So with that I should look into the Buell race ECM and Race air filter?

D&D will be REALLY LOUD with better high RPM power, the Drummer will be moderately loud with better low RPM power. Both are good pipes, better depends on your goals.

Now put some bar end mirrors on that CityX and make it look like the pissed off cat it was meant to be.

Bought my 03XB9R in Sept 2003. I had no experience with any Harley Dealers. Here is what I found out in California.

Most Dealers will match anothers price, and they verify. Call around, maybe you can get some phone quotes.

I didn't spring for any extra warranty, (I'm a gambling individual) mostly because I knew that I would be putting over 20K on it in the year warranty that I got.

I also found out that I got no special treatment for getting the bike serviced where I purchased it. All the dealers treated me the same as far as the service department concideration. Don't be afraid to buy far from home if you can get a good deal.



Sorry, I'm in NorCal, so I cannot direct you to any dealers down there.

Mine cost me $1700 in Tax, Lic and all the other Xtra BS.

Shop around for the best deal.

Is there a website w/pictures of the Drummer pipe? I used to have a supertrapp on my old S1 which sounded pretty good, but it sounds like the Drummer is what i'd be looking for if I end up with a XB9SX. ( I'm definitely leaning that way )

I'm back. Have a few questions. I was looking into that D&D exhaust and I was able to find the full system on ebay for cheaper then I found just the slip on on americansportbike.com Anyone know if buying the full system would do much difference then just the slip on? I'd rather not remove the pipes. I've heard it's a real pain. The can is a whole lot easier...

by the way thanks for the sound clips. I love that sound : )
