Talk to my tech guy today and he said my rotor is really close to the limits. He said the service life of the rotor is around 12,000 miles. He's gonna call the service warranty department on the 3rd of Jan to see if this is covered under warranty. I didn't know the rotor needed to be replaced after every 12,000 miles. This seems odd to me. Can anyone tell me if there is a service life on the rotor? Thanks |

I think it depends on rider and rider style (hard stops etc.) I think you'd just replace it whenever it's out of spec, whether that's 6,000 or 60,000 mi. I could be wrong. Experts? |

I'm no expert, but I have no issues with mine. I'm almost at 30thousand miles. Though not abused, it's seen every kind of weather and riding. 12thousand? |

Yeap.. the guy said it almost out of limits and I'm like eh? I've done some hard riding, but I don't think it was that hard. Well I'll hoping that it's covered under warranty. We shall see. |

Did he measure the thickness of the rotor, or just look at your odometer? If he's going by a book that says it'll wear out at 12thousand miles, he's going to tell you it's a wearable item, not covered unless there's a default in workmanship. I hope I'm wrong though. |

A fellow SV'er on SVrider.com has over 100K on this SV...replaced rotors twice....once due to a tipover I believe. |

How many pads have you gone through? |

I just got the second pads put on about a month ago. Had I know that the disk was getting close, I would have changed it then. Now I got to get new pads and a disk. Still waiting to see. (Message edited by tatsu on December 30, 2004) |

I'm at least half way through my second set. I can't imagine a rotor being toast after one set. I haven't measured mine, but I will tomorrow (10K service). |

I think you should check the rotor thickness yourself. It would be EXTREMELY unlikely that the rotor be worn out at this mileage. |

i got a few issues with rotors, but not that they are worn out ( 35ooo km and very agresive braking with a 220 pound bloke on the little bolt ) |
