Just took my new 05 city X for the first ride. When I hit the front brake I heard a clicking noise. Is that the norm? If so all is cool just need to know. This BIKE is the SH1%. I love it Merry Christmas | ||

I think I heard something similar on my XB9SX this morning. Although, it was hard to tell because there were cinders on the road, so it might have been small stones flying off of the tire. I am interested to hear what others say about this. If it helps, it was about 20-25 degrees. | ||

I take it it sounds like a high speed buzzing noise right? If so that's normal. It's from the crossing drilling in the rotors. | ||

My pads "click" as they engage the rotor. Do you think that's what you hear. If so mine has always done it with no ill effect. | ||

This has been a common notation on most of these bikes when they are new. The "clicking" noise seems to be the pads and rotor breaking in. It'll soon go away, and you'll move on to the next new noise these buggers make. | ||

It sounds like what most of you are describing is correct - a rapid clicking noise as the brake engages. My XB9SX only has 18 miles on it so Noface's response seems accurate as well. | ||

If it is a clicking at low speeds (under 30 mph) under light to medium braking on the front brake it is not the pads. The steering head bearing needs to be re-torqued per the service manual. This is a common issue on XB's. I had this problem on my xb9s, my dealer told me I was hearing the 'floating front rotor.' Finally, I took the advice of someone on this board and re-torqued the steering head bearing and the clicking went away completely. That clicking is not the front brake, and should be fixed. An easy test is (with the front wheel off the ground), push the front wheel forward and back, if you can feel clicking, the steering head bearing is the issue. After I fixed this, my front end felt more 'planted' and the bike handled much better. Hint- the front wheel must be off the ground when re-torquing the steering head bearing. | ||

My rear brake started making a clicking noise. Appeared the bolts were coming loose and there was play on the brake clamp. | ||

Just check that the caliper bolts and steering head bolts are to spec. Though, brakes make all manner of interesting noises...that's what makes them fun. | ||

Mine make a clicking noise after I wash it or ride in the rain. Not loud or anything, goes away pretty quickly. | ||

My brakes make all kinds of noises, but they still stop me and I know they make noise because of the way I brake.... HARD! |
