2003 XB9S with 44k miles. Just bought. PO said it wasn't shifting. His mechanic told him it was a messed up shift pawl. He gave me a good used shift pawl and gasket (plus other spares) with the bike. He told me he's selling it because he needs the money bad, and his mechanic's shop caught fire. PO said it was stuck in neutral. When I was loading it, bike was stuck in gear. After I got it home, it was stuck in neutral. Just took off the primary, stator cover, clutch basket, and the existing shift pawl looks undamaged. Can't move the gear selector manually. Here's a video of where I'm at: https://youtu.be/3LYPY8s3WF8 This is my first time working on a Harley engine (done a lot of foreign engines). Am I missing something obvious, or is the transmission messed up, requiring cracking the case? |

Did you try to shift with pulling the wheel forward and backwards? These transmissions don't want to shift gear when engine isn't running! So instead you can manipulate the transmission with rocking the bike back and forth or trying to pull the wheel to have movement. |

It's stuck in neutral, so rocking forward and back won't jiggle the transmission. |

It really is a bummer they decided to remove the trap door from the XB platform. Like, I'm not sure what you do here other than splitting the cases to see what's wrong. Though maybe someone more experienced than myself has a good suggestion before you go down that road. |
