From eyeballing it and watching the vids, seems like if you drop the rear shock and lift the bike far enough, the rear wheel shouldn't really be in the way for removing the fuel pump. |

Looking at an old picture I took when removing the pump from an XT you are possibly correct. I removed the wheel and the bottom shock mount and the left hand footage bracket. With the bracket removed it does look like you might be able to sneak the pump out. Yes, it was filthy at the time - doing daily commuting duty in winter.

Can I ask why if going to the effort of removing the fuel pump (which I have done myself on an XT due to cutting out when hot at petrol stations) you don't want to remove the back wheel? I'd rather take the back tyre (or tire) as far away from a source of petrol spillage as possible????? Ex military aircraft engineer, contamination on aircraft or particularly motorcycle tyre does not normally end well. I suspended the bike on ratchet straps so you don't need to remove the swing arm.....but the rear wheel..... |

Done it many times with rear wheel on, shock bolt removed, peg mount off on shifter side---- |

I managed to get the pump out of my 05, XB without removing the swing arm or tire. It's been a while, so I don't recall the details, but I do remember having to do "some", wiggling. And, that putting it back in was a little more difficult ! Have fun. Mike |
