OK, so what are the changes to the XB's for 05? The only change from 04 that I've heard is the forks are now 43mm rather than 41 (is that on all XBs?). |

I have been told that the cams on the SX are different to the other XB9's although I can't confirm this. It also has a different ECM as well as the throttle body, injectors and belt/pulleys all being nicked from the XB12 lineup. |

The dealer told me that the light bulb is "more intense". Not higher wattage (I've asked) but different light bulbs and they are more intense. |

In addition to what I said above, I've also read (here?) that the 05 9Rs now have the 12 airbox--can anyone confirm? |

Yes for the airbox, my 05 9sx came from the factory with the 12 airbox, I am sure the R's get the same. I gear ratios for the 9's and the 12's are still different, and the 9sx has the same ratios as the 9r, and I think it is identical to the 03 9's. The ECM's are definately different, though an honest dealer mistake I ran an 03 9 race ecm then an 05 9sx race ecm, and there was a significant difference in how well it ran, mainly on the bottom end (better with the new one). Interesting about the cams, oughta be easy to check by somebody with a parts manual. |

As I recall the cams in all the XBs are the same. I don't have a parts manual though. |

All are the same, 12's and 9s, 03-05, Part number 25188-02, E Cam Gear Set with Pinion Gear, at least per 03 and 05 parts manuals. I found plenty of errors in the parts manuals, but I don't think this is one of them. I've confirmed that even though the fork sliders changed on the 05 models from 41mm to 43mm (for all except the XB12Scg), the upper triple clamp is the same, so Heli bars and Superbike Bar conversions for the R's still work. The lower triple clamp part number changed in 05, though. Can someone with an 05 please measure the outer diameter of the outer fork tubes just above and below the lower triple clamp? This is where all steering dampers for the XB series bikes attach, I need to work with the vendors and get it figured out if the 54mm clamps work on the 05 bikes, and their isn't an 05 on the floor at the local dealer. The MIG light clamps go there too. Thanks, Al (Message edited by al_lighton on December 23, 2004) |
