My beloved Ulysses might finally be toast. I haven't ridden much the past couple years. Pulled it out for spring riding, and it was hard starting. Replaced the oil, gas, and battery, and the thing was smoking and throwing codes. Might have just been the seafoam since I tried cleaning out the injectors when it wouldn't start. Anyways, I was working on it and left the seat off...and it rained. Now seems that battery is drained to nothing and I must have a short or electrical problem. I think it is finally a goner. Loved it back in the day. Wondering how many of you guys have dealt with this kind of thing. Thinking about selling off the whole thing for parts. I figure trying to part it out and sell on ebay is probably more trouble than it is worth. |

None of that sounds worth scrapping the bike over. If you gave it heavy dose of Seafoam, it’ll definitely smoke and it might well throw codes. How long had it been sitting up without running? Generally, the wiring getting wet like that wouldn’t cause permanent damage. I’d pull the battery and recharge it. While it’s out pull the fuse box cover and blow any water out of it and check the fuses. Pull the 4 relays and make sure they’re dry too. Hopefully when you put the battery in it’ll fire back up. It would probably be a good idea to pull the spark plugs and check them. If they’re fouled go ahead and replace them. It might just take take running that tank of gas through it for things to clear up. If you think you got carried away with the Seafoam or if you’ve got a partial tank of really old gas in there, you may want to even drain the gas tank and start over with fresh fuel. Come on over to the Uly-specific part of the board for additional help: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/142838.html?1659656367 |
