hey all. just wanted to share a reduced effort clutch release ramp assembly that i got off of ebay. it’s cheaper than many of the others but needs some finishing. there are some ramp assembly kits that are well over $100 and i’m sure they work great but i’m cheap. the one i got was about 60. i see there are generally 2 styles or maybe 3. one is a replacement release assembly and the other is a lever that is added to the arm on the assembly. the ad doesn’t claim any particular % of effort reduction but it feels like at least a third lighter. since i was a kid i’ve cut most of the clutch lever off so that i can pull it with my index and middle finger and ring and pinky can stay on the grip. anyway, by reducing the effort, the cable has to be pulled further for the ramp to get to the same angle, but i think they are all like this. i set the clutch cable adjustment slightly tighter than i used to, and the “friction zone” takes more lever movement so that takes a bit of getting used to. but…riding in town doesn’t seize up my hand anymore. as far as finishing, the casting kinda rough but is ok except for the ball ramps. i cleaned them up with a very small sanding drum and they’re pretty smooth. to me it’s worth the upgrade especially for how easy the work is, except the bit of polishing work and the additional lever throw that needs to be dealt with. for cheapskates. you know who you are. https://www.ebay.com/itm/225039027851?mkcid=16&mke vt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Y5RuQ4-ERdO&sss rc=2349624&ssuid=fUbuwu-9Q2a&var=&widget_ver=artem is&media=COPY |

That listing may not know what it is talking about, but it says, "This part is not compatible with this 2007 Buell Lightning XB12S". |

i put a few city miles in it this weekend and it’s great. way reduced effort. i didn’t measure everything, but except for the different ramps on the new one they look the same. i figured it was a knock off. it’s heavy like the original, i hope the metal is as strong! |

30 or so miles this weekend with stop and go. it’s much easier to deal with. like creeping through a peking lot or slow moving traffic when you just need to keep it rolling. the gearing is so tall 10mph seems to be the slowest speed with the clutch all the way out. i’m going to tighten the screw adjustment in the clutch 1/6 if a turn. that will be the low edge of the adjustment but should move the engagement position a little further out. |
