2006 Uly runs perfect up to about half throttle. Won't pull great on WOT and totally bogs on WOT when the exhaust valve opens. Idles perfect at 1000 RPM, does not hang up. AFV 105.3 after running in learn mode about 20 miles. No error codes. Back story is had to remove and replace rear head to fix broken exhaust stud. Was running perfect before that with a 2004 BUEGB stock ECM. On reassembly the problem starts as above, in fact it was worse because it would completely bog on WOT with exhaust valve open or closed. Muffler is a stock XB12 from an XB12R. K & N filter and a couple extra holes in the airbox. More back story is after running the 2004 ECM I installed a 2006-2007 ECM which i bought for the purpose of downloading a map from Twin Motors for their Torque Hammer muffler. The bike ran a bit better with that ECM (as described in first paragraph above). I think the Torque Hammer map is on that ECM but not 100% sure. I am thinking of trying to re-install stock map and if that doesn't work, then send ECM to IDS for re-flash of stock map. Could this be something other than mapping issue? Any other solutions? |

This may sound really strange, but I had a similar issue after rotating my engine once. Still can’t fully explain it but apparently I didn’t have the rubber air horn under the air box cover properly installed. Be sure it is properly seated on the intake and that the spring clamp does not interfere with any cables or wiring. Lastly, just be sure it is secure in the air box with no pinched or displaced areas. A minimum of effort and no cost so it might be worth a try. |

Thanks Griffmeister. I was pretty careful putting the intake horn in place but might be worth a look. |

Don't mean to hijack Joshboys thread but while the brain trust is gathered, thought i'd try to tap in. Got both ECMs reflashed at IDS with their "race" map for stock exhaust. Bike was running perfect before, then I installed a new fuel pump, and bike ran, except i was having exhaust problem which turned out to be a broken rear exhaust stub. Had to rotate engine and remove rear head but it is all fixed now. Bike starts, idles, runs perfect up to 2/3 - 3/4 throttle. Any more than that and it bogs but keeps trying. But on full throttle, once the exhaust valve opens it just dies like the ignition was turned off. Intake seals are new and good. Exhaust valve and actuator all working. New fuel pump was installed before problem started. The muffler is from a different XB12 model but i believe they are all the same inside. Any ideas out there? |

I double what Griffmeister said. I did the same thing when I rotated my engine. I thought I was careful during reassembly but I missed installing the air horn properly. The bike started and ran great. I rode up to the gas station and all was good then I pulled out into traffic. As I got to about 4K rpm the bike acted like the full was shut off. I let off the throttle and all was good again. As a quick test just remove the air box cover a go for a short ride and see if the problem is still there. Also its best if removing the battery or removing the ECM to preform a throttle position reset. |

Thanks Dammechanic. Turns out Griffmeister and you had it absolutely right. I was sure i had the damn thing installed properly but when i checked under the airbox to make sure all teh wiring and plumbing was OK, the intake horn came off. It was not properly seated in the groove in throttle body. took a bit of work to get it in there but now the bike runs perfect. Should have listened to Griffmeister sooner. Thanks guys! My theory is that it just lets too much air in on WOT. |
