I'm currently running a Mobil 1 M1-103 on one of my bikes. For possible warranty issues though you might want to stick with the Buell/HD part. Pretty sure it's the same filter as used on the Blast. |

These topics have been much discussed here. Search "Magnuson" "Magnussen" "Magnusen" "Magnusson" here & you will find manny threads on the warranty issue. |

Being a genuine cheapskate, I have awarded all of my lubrification and filtration operation business to my local Walmart. Their Speed Tech ST 4967 filter is said to be exactly the same as the Buell OEM filter and cost about two bucks. While you are there, you might want to pick up some Mobil One, four bucks a quart in the five quart bottle, and a quart of Mobil One 75w90 gear oil for your tranny: both of these synthetics work great and are popular with lots of Bad Webbers: even Glitch uses it, and he is one of the highest mileage bad boy street fighters out there:-) |

Dstrat, yes it is, not sure if there is an M103 but the cannister is marked M1-103, and it fits just fine though I didn't do any side by side comparison. Dc, not sure who your post was directed at, if it was me you probably noticed the word "possible" to preface the warranty comment. Not saying that it will be, or is a problem but some dealerships seem to go out of their way not to honor legitimate warranty claims. Not a concern of mine but might be for some people so I added that as a disclaimer. |

the way they work on bikes, warranty is the least of my concerns, but a filter that fit would really help,,,thanks for all the help....i still am confused by the fact that the m 103 i just saw in the auto parts store looked like a auto filter in size, and would not fit my xb9s....dave |

They can't void your warranty over an oil filter unless they provide the filter free of charge. |

Dstrat, not sure what filter you saw but I"ve been using the M1-103 Mobil 1 on mine and it's about the same size as the stock ones... Kevin |

yeah they ant void your warranty for using non harley regular maintanence (i know spelling sux) items i.e. air filters oil filters and oil lightbulbs tires you get the picture there is a federal law that protects us from that crap (i cant remember the number atm) and unless they are going to provide the items/services for said items for free then they can not void it thats why mitsubishi has the free maitenance thingy cuz that way your warranty go bye bye if you dont use it cuz its a free service |

you can also use a K&N oil filter. You won't find it in any bike catalogs but I think the PN is KN-1003. |

The Wal-Mart ST 4967 is the EXACT same filter as the stock Buell filter. I've cut up at least thee of each. Stampings, numbers, build characteristics are identical between the two. There are only so many oil filter manufacturers out there, and they build for many different brands. They just put different stickers or color paint on depending who their selling to. For $2.95, I dunno how you can beat the ST 4967. |

Easyflier, filter is not the same as the Blast. Dstrat, Don't label all dealers from a bad experience at one, please, there are dealers that work hard to do things correctly. I think everyone has made an honest mistake at least once in their life, maybee it was his day. Craig Buell Cycle Center |

well, that same dealer sold me a 2003 xb9s but talked me out of the one i picked out and gave me another which it turns out still had the old bearings in it,,,Then when i dropped it off after a week of getting them to understand that (upgraded) bearings are a no charge item promptly charged me 95 dollars to mount two tires when the the wheels were off to begin with...........and to cap it off neglected to tell me that they were (unable?) to reset the tps, which was the reason i brought the bike it........i am sure there are some good ones out there ...but where are they |

I can understand your feelings with reading more about your story. They are out there, just ask around here, somebody is bound to know one in your area (I hope). |

I too use the Wal-mat Super Tech 4967 and Mobile One. My scoot has never complained... One funny thing? When I first made the switch, the shifts got really hard, I mean really hard. I was worried, but over time, it's the slipperiest the gearbox has ever been. |

THE MOBIL 1 YOU GUYS ARE USING IN THE ENGINE IS THE MOTORCYCLE OR AUTO VERSION? |

Doesn't matter, both are CF rated. That came straight from Mobile. Covered on an earlier thread. The motorcycle version is the same stuff at higher dollar. Save you $$$. |

"THE MOBIL 1 YOU GUYS ARE USING IN THE ENGINE IS THE MOTORCYCLE OR AUTO VERSION" I use the 15-50 redcap. This is auto oil. Great stuff. |

$10 to $3 is a "meager" savings? 75% is meager? I need to get a job where you work... I do use the Mobil1 15/50 red cap auto oil in the engine, and Mobil1 75w90 in the tranny. Good stuff for sure. |

Noface, That may be a ~75% reduction in price, but it's still only $7 more each time. If you ride 10k miles a year that's 4 filter changes a year putting the OEM filter at $28 more per year. $28 per year seems like a meager price for peace of mind about oil filtration. Mike L. The difference in price would mean nothing if the Buell filter was really better/different. But several folks had determined that there is no difference between the Buell branded filter and the walmart filter. One or two companies, I think, make most of the filters and most likely the make both the Walmart version and the Buell version. So, if you want to pay the difference for the Buell filter, by all means do so, it is your money. I ran Fram (I don't anymore because someone determined that they are junk) and Mobil 1 on my Tube frame. I ran Mobil 1 and now run the Walmart version on my Yamaha FZ1. |

If you buy a non Buell filter and it's not black you can high temp paint it, then stick it in your oven on low heat to bake it for that genuine look... |
