I know I am starting a food-fight, but ... I am contemplating another Buell. I had a XB12Ss and 1125CR. Contemplating an XB9R or XB12R. What are the relative pros and cons? Thanks for your help. - Bill |

Well you already had a 12SS so we can skip the stuff we would say to a non-bueller. The 9R is smoother and revs higher, the motor feels basically like your 1125CR but minus quite a bit HP, and doesn't rev quite as high. It it isn't as lumpy and rough as your 12SS. The 9R also has shorter gearing than the 12s, but you likely know the primary chain can be swapped on either. The 12R is more common, (heck all XB12 models are more common) so you may have a harder time finding the 9 you want. Performance on both is basically the same, they accelerate pretty much the same, the 12 has a higher top speed due to taller gearing and a bit more HP, but both will get you to from 0 - Go to Jail about the same. Handling is the same as the bikes are mechanically basically the same for a given model year. But if you have a 9, people will mock you for buying the girls Buell. Oh wait no, that is only the idiot Harley "lifestyle" riders. |

I was at a similar crossroads years ago, and went XB9 just because of the engine character. I'm in Rock Hill, SC now and *may* be getting out of the 'Buell game'. I have too many bikes, and recently downsized here. If you are interested in riding one, and don't mind a road trip, you are welcome to come 'check them out'.

The photo above is a little old, about 3-years ago in our old house in Upstate NY. The red XB9r has a 1050 kit, Ohlins rear shock, Racetech front end, black wheels, custom seat.....the list goes on. Below is a newer photo, just before we left last August.

Both are FULLY SORTED XB9Rs. The Blue a 2005 with 25k on it, the red a 2003 with 9k prior to the 1050 build. Since then, about 1k mi each. (Message edited by skipbarberman on May 08, 2021) (Message edited by skipbarberman on May 08, 2021) |

Thanks for your input Froggy. I appreciate it. I am thinking the 9 may be fun to try since I had a 12 before as did my nephew. You are right in that they definitely seem more rare. |

Thanks for the offer Skip. Beautiful bikes. Do they both have Drummer exhausts? I had one on my XB12Ss and one on my 1125 which sounded amazing!. I am guessing you have a longer riding season in Rock Hill than you did in Northern NY. |

Yeah, MUCH LONGER.....that's part of why I'm here. The red one has a Dean Adams with a XB12 header, all ceramic coated silver. The blue has my old Buell Race Muffler. I love Dean's exhaust.....that thing honks. - Sean (Message edited by skipbarberman on May 09, 2021) |

I've been to Rock Hill, it is our last overnight stop on the way back from Florida (except this year). We usually eat here: https://www.charandamexicanrestaurant.com/ |

Ducbsa - Been there, good eats. I like it here.....weather and politics are MUCH better. In fact, our governor just signed a couple of eye-opening bills. If cars are passing you on the right on our interstates, you get fined $250 for the first offense. MOVE OVER.....no more 'camping' in the left lane.
