If you had the option of buying an XB9 and building it up or starting with an XB12 which would you choose?

I've ridden both and I love the stock 12R but I've been told the extra revs of a built up XB9 are an awful lot of fun.

Thanks!

If you use the search feature you will find ALL of the threads related to that particular discussion.

Tried that. I guess I suck at using the search feature on this page because I rarely get what I'm looking for. I'll keep trying though. Mostly I wondered if there was any new input on this topic since there have been changes in available parts.

Odd, I'm normally really good with search engines *sigh*

9 vs 12

set the search to subject lines only, then set it for XB board only. 355 hits should cover what your lookingfor.

Narrowing it to the XB board did the trick. Thanks for the tip Wycked : )

Well since this is a forum and not a historical society, I'll post.
I like the 9. the 12 has more grunt but the 9 feels more flexible.

Thanks Oconnor,

You do any mods to your 9? The dealership I go to has a race bike that is a built up an XB9R to over 1400cc (1430 I think but don't quote me) and they've offered to let me talk to their mechanic and see what I think after talking to him.

I'll admit that has my interest peaked but I don't ever see me doing nearly as much as they've done to theirs. For one thing its a pure race bike and mine will get used as a daily driver and some touring.

They also pointed out the 9 even after mods has cheaper insurance for most people but either way my insurance wouldn't be too bad.

If it's a track bike, I would go for a 9. If it's a street bike, I'd go for a 12. It may become a moot issue though if what we are talking about in the Cam, Injector and Spark timing thread comes to fruition. If it does, it's definitely better to go for the 12 so you don't have to swap cranks. Also, I think if their race 9 is >1400cc's, then they put a 12 crank in it.

Ooh, going to have to check out that topic M1.
As for insurance, definitely find out first on your own. Insurance can be a nightmare on these things.
As for touring and all that go test ride them a bunch. Go to a couple different dealers so you can get some decent seat time. I rode a 12 on the street and I was impressed... but when I got back on my 9 it was, I want to say smoother, but its not, I don't know how to put it in words. easier to ride...
I don't know.
But after I rode that 12 I have done a race ecu, k&n drilled box no snorkle and a home made can. I am waiting to save up for a techlusion.
Power is addictive. I'll give the 12 that.

I've test ridden 4 different 12s (both 2 R and 2S) and 3 9s (1R 2Ss) So I've had a fair amount of seat time but the dealer offered if I'm really curious to let them know and the manager will loan me his Buell for the day to test. My wife is convinced this is a bad idea because she's sure she'll come to pick me up and I'll have already filled out paperwork. It sucks when wives are as smart as mine ; )

Well then it should come down to which was more comfy for you to ride. See thats why I would buy another nine, and most people would call me crazy and buy a twelve. Its whatever floats YOUR boat. Plus the wife will be only pissed for a little bit. Chicks dig bikes. They think its sexy. Yeah they tink its dangerous impracticle and all that jazz too but oh well.

Oh, she's a rider too. Its just that our original plan was to buy another Buell to go with the X1W, the VROD, and the Sportster. Problem is that now we both want an XB model. She wants a built up CityX (the wife used to drag race a FZR1000) and I want a XB12R. Cant handle the payments for both and the VROD so the VROD and the X1W are in danger of being sold.

Funny how some decisions are painful. Especially when it comes to toys.

Dang, I am still suffering "Seller's Remorse" from every hot car and bike I ever sold.

Thats my fear at selling off the V-Rod or the X1. I need more money.. and a bigger garage.
