I have a question for anyone that is coverting their S to a R model. Does the S dash and ing key switch fit into the same space as the R model? I still need to buy the Parts and Service manuals for both the R and the S models before I convert my 9S to a 9R. Thanks all.

The speedo cluster is the same for S & R, but the ignition lock is different. I definitely recommend getting the R service manual. You can do without the parts manual, however. Just ask Dave here to get you whatever parts you need for the conversion. I done mine and got all the parts from him. You just can't beat Dave's service and his 10% discount.

Q: Ok this may sound silly... but why would you want your "S" to look like an "R"... where you could have just bought the "R" model..
Is there any advantage to go to an "R"..

I personally like the look of the "S" model...

Same here. I did it purely for the aerodynamics. I can go on highways for a lot longer due to wind protection from its wind screen. But I definitely like S position for city riding. That's what we need, a convertible handle bar that goes to and from S and R positions.

Amen, I would definitely get a convertible handle bar to go from R to S position!

I rode a 12R on a demo ride last summer and I thought it was comfortable enough. I got my 9S because I thought it would be more comfortable to ride until I did some track days last summer. My right hand was going numb after about 15 minutes of rideing hard. When I lay down on the airbox cover I get my feeling back. Someday I will get that shoulder surgery done. LOL. Plus I like the idea of having the only black 9R around my area. brupska

Cheers guys...
I got an XB9s, purely for looks and riding position..
My previous bike was an Aprilia RSV.. (rocket on 2 wheels) which was sold due to buying a house...
(short term loss, long term gain)
Last year I saw the Buell XB9s..
I knew if I went for a test ride I would be taking one home, so sold my Jeep wrangler and got back on 2 wheels..

I bought the 12S because it felt like a big supermoto to ride. Looks had nothing to do with it, it was about how it made me feel.

The 'R' feels wrong to me, but I like the SM style (my last bike was a SuperMoto).

I got it home and stated the usual pillion duties. I'll point out here that the idea behind the Buell was to get the ability to pillion back, since the KTM didn't have that facility and the missus was screaming to go for a ride.

First ride out, she can't grip the bike with her legs, she's loading me up with her weight under brakes, I can't shift my wieght about cos she's smothering me, consequently, she wasn't getting the usual feedback and couldn't predict what I was doing.

You might be getting the idea we ride hard together, well, we used to drag the pegs on the R6 two-up...

Anyhow, I was at a loss as to why it was so hard to ride two-up now whereas before pillioning her was so easy. I refused to believe it was due to her 'turning' into a pillion gumby.

So I thought back to the R6.

I NEEDED MORE ROOM!!! So I fitted the 'R' tail section... Now we give two-up rides a dead set go, and she's more comfortable going hard again.

I think the R front looks effin' cool on an S.
I think it would fit without changing triple trees and handlebars too.

It is really my own fault. I just should have got a R instead of a S. I got the S because I thought I would be riding more on the street. That was until I started riding at track days. I am single dad with two young kids. A boy that is 8 and a girl that is 4 years old so I don't get to ride much unless they are with the ex or I find a baby sitter. Plus like I said I will be the only one around with a black 9R. At 130+ mph on the straight aways at Putnam Park road course are not fun out in the wind. Lap times are around the minute and a half so I am on the straight away every other minute in a twenty minute session. It is just my choice. I like the looks and feel of the S model, just not for the track. I am thinking about buying a Sportster 1200 for the street when I tack my girlfriend out for cruising. She is not into going fast or taking the twisties. She does love motorcycles tho. Well I hope I don't offend anyone. I think both bikes are the best out there. So it is just a personal choice. I chose the S model for the seating. I knew when I bought it that I would be able to swap to the R fairing for windsheilding but couldn't deal with the seat on the R. I can deal with riding an R model seat for about an hour, but I can deal with the seat on the S for far longer.
