I’ve been reading about crank failures on certain years |

It's a 15 year old motorcycle. Probably for less than $5k Buy it. Ride it. Don't worry so much |

There's no rhyme or reason to the failures. As stated above, just ride it. Parts are plentiful, including complete engines. It's like driving to work everyday, or walking down the street. Could be your last ride/walk, but if you treat it that way, you won't enjoy it. Honestly....I'm not being dismissive. |

Marketing BS. Yes, the engine has critical improvements. I would recommend you take 2010 if you have a choice. Or 2009 if you can not find 2010. Just Google it, all information is available. (Message edited by TPEHAK on July 16, 2020) |

Meh. Theres plenty of people with 50,000-100,000 miles on <'07 Buells that would disagree with you. Of course MFG's change, modify, and sometimes completely re-design their product. The march of time and additional information make in inevitable. It's up to you to decide if it makes the previous version untenable. |

"It's up to you to decide if it makes the previous version untenable." There are things on my '03 XB9R that I prefer to the newer models. Not all changes in manufacturing are improvements. Many are done as 'cost saving measures' by the Finance Department or 'simplicity and reliability for manufacturing' by the Engineering Department but then are 'improvements' as defined by the Marketing Department. The stronger crank, the oil pump, etc. are things I pursued and answer to. Honestly, I'm staying put. I have an '03 and an '05 XB9R. The thing that REALLY sucked on the '03 was the fork setup....the '05 is better out-of-the-box. (Message edited by skipbarberman on July 17, 2020) (Message edited by skipbarberman on July 17, 2020) |

Pre '08 engines are more fun. Post '08's are more reliable (mostly due to improved oiling). The post '08 oil pumps are harder to source though, so if that goes, you have a problem. |

I never heard about 08-10 oil pump problems. |

If I remember correctly, (and per the video), it allowed them to use the same casting on both sides of the engine cases. The updated pump for '07 with a bronze gear was a better option, IMHO. The original style sitting lower in the crankcase is better for scavenging. To each his own I guess. |

"I never heard about 08-10 oil pump problems." Neither have I, but that wasn't necessarily the focus of my post . "I am buying it, upon closer look it’s an 06 XB12SS long Nice surprise" Cool! Post some pictures when you get it. |
