Hello all. Been a few years since I've been on the Badweb. I was away for a while after selling my 98'S1 and before that I had a 98'S3.Same ol' wished I still had em' deal. I actually got back on 2 wheels via a 2004 1200 Roadster a month ago. I made it a year after selling the last Sporty, an 82' Iron Head. This makes the 3rd Sportster , first rubbermount and this will be my first XB. It's a good bike but got to yearning for the Buell handling quickly and by chance stumbled on this wounded XB9 and snagged it. I went and paid for the 2007 XB9R yesterday. I've been reading the Badweb for tech info and parts. The charging system is down and it also needs a front caliper(leaking) and pads, peg and turn signal. Fixable stuff. Lot easier than the grenaded piston case splitter job I did on the S3. Been looking for a new stator for sale and don't see any out there. Does someone know where to purchase new one? Maybe an upgraded unit? Well thanks and glad to be back on two. Really looking forward to enjoying the XB9R |

Welcome back! I have a front caliper with fairly new EBC HH pads if you are interested. Listing in the classified section too. I personally wouldn’t use a pre-owned/used stator. As for new, I believe the OEM is still avail and there is likely a Rick’s option. Haven’t had to replace on either of mine yet.....of course, now I will having said that. |

Thanks! Where do you get an OEM nowadays for a Buell? Or Ricks maybe. Man I just ordered a caliper on ebay last night. I should have checked classifieds. |

On finding a stator I did some looking around online only found rebuilds, which may work great but called the local Harley dealer and they can order for 162 bucks. Previous owner already bought a regulator so that gets replaced also. That outta work...Buell thrills on the way soon I hope |

OEM stuff is still readily available. St Paul Harley is your best bet, but if you have part numbers you can give them to any parts monkey at any Harley dealer and they will be able to take care of it. St Paul however is more likely to have things in stock. I'd get a rebuild kit for the front caliper, and some fresh pads. Well I’ve been out riding the XB9 again today I’m having a hard time staying off of it. Really enjoying it. Handles awesome. Reminds me of my 98’S1 white lighting I used to have only faster. I got the charging system working. Found a problem at the stator harness connector. Wiggle tested and zip tied tight and went from 12.0 to 13.8 at the battery. Still need to make a permanent repair. Connectors available out there? Another issue is on the first ride I couldn’t get out of second. Couldn’t even force it. I adjusted the linkage and lowered the shifter and I can get through 5th but still hard to get in to higher gears and now almost can’t downshift so had to park it today. I think it needs a clutch..Primary chain is adjusted correct, trans works well and the clutch doesn’t slip but I think it needs replacing. I changed the primary juice with sports trans. 28k on the odometer and I think it was ridden pretty hard before I got it. Broken rear peg, turn signal, missing right mirror, loose body work. It sat for about 3 years. I’m repairing this wounded machine and getting it back in business. Ordered a bunch from of parts from St.Paul, thanks Froggy, clutch brand suggestions? This little red speedy Buell is great..haven’t ridden the sportster in days..I really enjoy it. Thanks guys |

Before going further, since you are dealing with a new to you bike, take the clutch inspection cover off and look carefully at the 'lips' that the outer ramp and hook ride on. Those castings can fracture, allowing the ramp and hook to flex enough to make shifting difficult. Might try pulling/releasing the clutch lever while looking in there, see if anything moves that should not. Hope this helps, Dave |

i got a set of underground RF cable splice connectors (copper tubes with set screws) from my local lowe's for the stator/VR connectors. i got the idea from a thread somewhere on here I went with an energy one when i fried mine but Barnett also makes one for the XB that is an 'extra plate' kit, but it just replaces the judder plate and spring washer. you could put a lighter diaphragm spring in it to help the clutch pull a little. that and a clutch lite XX soft ramp. |

Took the cover off and inspected everything. All looks ok, nothing cracked or out of place. I took the free play out at the clutch and it shifts now but it’s still tight. Reminds me of when pressure plates go bad in fleet vehicles Ive worked on. With the cover off rotating the shift rod with the lever takes xtra effort. Like the shaft itself is hard to rotate for some reason. I’ll look into those splice connectors..thanks for the info. |

Thanks Nillaice! Would you have any pics of the stator and regulator harness routing ? Searched and don’t find anything. I plan to buy a service manual Friday/payday. All the harnesses were hanging out when I bought the bike and having a heck of a time figuring out how to tuck them back correctly. Thanks |

That is correct Ducbsa. If the wire is stranded, tin the wire with solder first. (Message edited by skipbarberman on May 14, 2020) |
